three Precision iron golf drills to help
you hit more iron shots that hit Target
that are better struck and allow you to
hit more greens because hitting more
greens is simply going to lead to lower
scores and more enjoyment these are fre
Precision iron swing Basics that are
going to transform the way your approach
plays consistently start hitting the
green remember if you like the video hit
the like button down below and consider
subscribing to the channel also down
there I’ve got phly links if you’re
looking at any of those products great
deals down there as well links to my
newsletter free Weekly Newsletter don’t
miss out on that so Precision so
important with approach place so
important with irons we’ve all hit shots
great drives and then we hit these wild
irons into the rubbish and it’s it’s got
to be one of the most frustrating things
on the planet so gaining good Precision
with your IR is going to be so crucial
for you playing your best golf so number
one point for precision is setup based
and I see this one so often with golfers
you have got to make sure that the face
of the club where it points where it
orientates the lean of the handle or not
subject to the club you’re using so
medium iron or most of your irons you’re
going to start with a little bit of
handle lean they don’t start coming
straight out they basically start the
handle slightly forward and then in turn
your hold these three aspects need to
link up face handle lean grip they’ve
got to be in sync with each other what I
see loads of golfers doing is holding
club with the club coming straight out
of a medium iron which then in turn
makes their grip go on a little bit weak
for lots of golfers they then push their
hand or forward at a dress that then
turns the orientation of the face and
they just completely out of syn so often
this straight setup handle forward cuz
they’re ready to go now and then they’re
just going to kind of flop the ball over
there and wonder why all the angles were
wrong so how do we fix that super simple
drill take your club Put It parallel to
the ground so it’s up in the air
parallel to to the ground here now you
want the head of the club in line say
with your tummy button but you want the
but end of the club just shooting at
your left pocket here even just missing
your left side if you want while the
head stays in the middle of you and then
I want you to take your neutral grip so
you’re basically setting the face angle
the sharlean and the grip all together
all as one sinking up this way so grip
just shooting past lead leg Club in the
middle of you then grip is really going
to allow you to get control of the face
grip and Shar Lan to allow you to
achieve the impact positions you want to
get the right loft of the club to get
the right face angle and then in turn
hopefully a straighter shot the key
issue for most golfers is this setting
up with it all straight let’s get rid of
that need handle lean as you set your
handle on or your hands onto the handle
with the face in an orientation where
you want it to go for you to feel that
when the clubs up in the air you want
this Leading Edge pointing straight up
to the sky so toe up to the sky so you
don’t want to be setting it up with the
face at this angle all the face turned
down to the ground Leading Edge up to
the sky handle lean in front of lead
pocket then apply your hands we’ll sink
all those three up to allow
you to have a better sink up through
your shots that’s an absolute arrow tip
number two let’s think about our body
alignments and what they can do for us
and also how they might hurt us and I
want you to think of your body
alignments in a few Dynamic ways so I’m
someone who tends to swing quite
straight I tend to swing Along the
orientation of my body meaning if I
point my face say at Target or where I
want the ball to start in this occasion
it’s a pretty straight shot so it is at
Target I’m going to set my feet my knees
my hips my shoulders all pretty parallel
to that line on the ground and then I’m
going to swing along the lines of my
body and that’s what lots of you should
be starting from that’s like a good
Baseline to start from for good
precision and accuracy in your eye and
play now what I see lots of golfers do
doing is setting up and then they often
put the trail hand on last but they put
it on from up here and they get a little
bit lean this way so they get almost
ahead of the ball shoulders start
pointing left this encourages these kind
of actions very good for the kind of
over the top slices that we don’t want
it encourages poor Turf interaction so
poor strikes which we don’t want so
being aware of your upper body shoulders
torso rib cage whatever you want to call
it its orientation not only this way and
this way but in turn this way and this
way CU these often react to each other
so the more you tilt away from the ball
often that points people to the right
the more they tilt to the left that
often points them to the left so the
more I tilt this way it makes it go left
so a great little kind of hack for
getting your setup on correctly using
your Trail hand bearing in mind your
lead hand is synced up to the face what
I’m going to do now when I set myself up
I feel pretty parallel drop Trail hand
off but I’m I’m going to introduce it
from right thigh so I’ve got it out in a
kind of clapping position and I’m just
going to bring it up to the club from
here what this does it puts a tiny
amount of tilt this way we don’t want
you loads of an eyon that’s going to
really cause some bad shots you are
starting pretty Central but you do want
a slight tilt this hand is lower than
this one on the club it’ll just ooch
you’ll kind of scoot your hips slightly
forward as well and this is going to
encourage better orientation with your
upper body rather than up here down
let’s go just from below the club up
that’s going to
encourage much better body positions to
allow you to be more precise simple
little caveat to this point though I
want you to understand that your body
positions can also encourage different
swing movements so don’t let them
paralyze you some golfers don’t really
aim with their body they aim with the
face more so they point that where they
want the ball to start and they can
stand in different orientations but
still see the straight lines down by the
ball so if you’re someone who says
struggles to kind of turn behind the the
ball you tend to sway a lot there’s
plenty of occasions where I’ll have them
standing slightly closed with their feet
slightly closed with their hips face
pointing straight this encourages a
better turn if they’re Limited in
movements so don’t be afraid to use your
stance these lines to allow you to
achieve your goal in your movements as
well good kind of Ru of Thun to start
from is the parallel that’s the one most
people will go for but if you’re told to
sand slightly differently and it helps
you hit better shots remember just keep
doing that cuz we’re built differently
our bodies AR all going to move the same
way so let your stance enable the
movement just one thing to watch out for
is that that’s not very good for
precision that’s good for those kind of
horrible shots all the big cuts off to
the right number three this one is so
worth practicing it’s so important for
so many golfers to get those real
precise iron shots when there’s real
trouble around the green and you just
want to hit that green you want to be
precise enough to get it between those
bunkers or not hit that water on the
left or whatever it is and you’ll see
Tommy fleetw use this idea a lot in his
gol swing so we could call it the Tommy
fleetw follow through I call it the
stunted follow through so where I’m kind
of holding the follow through off see
how it’s a stunted follow through I’ve
not come all the way through I still
feel very tilted in my body as well I’m
really pushing this shoulder down at the
ball and out in front of me towards the
target I almost feel like it’s my trail
shoulder that’s directing that shot I
mean look how straight that one is I
will use this one when I want to be just
Arrow Precision bit anxious bit nervous
or on days where things aren’t going
right I’m doing my normal action and
it’s going a little bit offline and I’ll
just move to this to try and find some
level of accuracy doesn’t mean I hit it
like that every time but it sometimes it
might be a bit more accurate than my
standard approach of my irons now this
doesn’t mean you don’t hit your normal
shot cuz where this one’s carried 169 or
total distance
169 if I do my full shot you’re going to
find I get more distance so there are
times where I want to hit the ball
Fuller distances and I’ll make my Fuller
swing it’s a faster swing 79 total
distance but if it’s accuracy precision
of after distance I can dial in I want
to hit it 169 total distance this is the
action I’m using so two checkpoints for
you to practice one you want to hold the
follow through so you want to slam on
the brake so you want to hit the ball
firm punch through and as soon as you’ve
hit that ball you want to feel like
you’re slamming on the brakes and two
you want to feel that you’re directing
Trail shoulder at Target like you’re
really going to push that trail shoulder
down and through towards Target think of
it as this way underarm throw if you’re
going to throw something into the bin
over here a bit of paper you’re probably
going to use your precise underarm throw
you’re probably not going to use your
stronger rounded throw that’s for
distance so my stronger rounded swing is
for distance my Precision is more this
kind of short sharp throw underarm throw
Direct at a Target we want that in the
shot the other great part of this idea
is the stunted follow through so the
idea of hitting the ball firm and then
as soon as you’ve hit it slamming on the
brakes
encourages really good releases like
really good releases because I do a
drill with in in other videos where you
can try this now hold on with just your
lead hand top of the club and I want you
just to make hip height hip height
swings but I want you to stop really
quickly so do it quick so do this swing
fast but stop quickly what you’re going
to find is the club really wants to
flick forwards because to stop the club
you need to stop this end and if you
stop this end what feels fast this end
flips forwards which gives it that
fantastic release which often golfers
are struggling with because they’re just
literally pulling yanking on that handle
as they come through they’re not letting
it go the stunted follow through does
the same it encourages that club to flip
forward to be released again creating
that Precision it’s that release it’s
that club letting go down at the bottom
that encourages better Turf interaction
better strikes more crisp strikes often
golfers find so once you’ve got your
grip set on all those angles Linked UP
you’ve got your spine angles postures
all working for you stunted follow
through Trail shoulder down towards
Target as a rip drag and that is
accurate enough for me on nearly any
hole I’m going to play anywhere in the
world these three tips will make you
more precise more Precision will lower
your scores if you want more distance
from your driver this video has got all
the information to help you start
knocking your driver past your mates

  1. The hitting with your trail shoulder is a really good mental image introducing proper shoulder turn.

I use it constantly with driving as well!

  2. Mark ,thats the best tip ive seen in 12 years of playing !!! Thankyou ! The pre setup with the iron at the start of the vlog ! ❤
