The Sports Media and the Truth Have Never Met

The recent brewhaha over the end of the Dallas Cowboys Lions game to show how the media tries to shape narratives and how they don’t even bother to do any factchecking I have a series of videos I’m going to paste the URL in and load them sometimes some ads will show up so

I’ll have to cancel those out and I apologize for that uh but I hope this will work I tried it last night it didn’t work so hopefully today it will this first video is Skip bis and I want you to watch and listen to what he says Even an electronic way to let the defense know an offensive lineman is declaring himself eligible to catch a pass you used to be able to hear the head ref say it live on The Telecast number 70 is reported as eligible I I don’t know what happened to that if really

Skip you don’t know what happened to that we have recordings of it how can you not know this I mean do you just not even pay attention do you not do any homework you just get on the show and blabber I mean come on you know I I understand that

These shows are they’re not news their commentary but still the least you can do is get your facts straight you know my entire life I’ve been dedicated to the truth if you ask anybody who knows me well they’ll tell you that I’m honest to a fault now I do have

Biases and I admit my biases and I try to not let my biases influence my opinions sometimes they do I’m human but I try to be as as factually accurate as I possibly can and then express my opinions so that you understand their opinions it seems to me that that’s what

The media ought to be doing but they’re not and while we’re on this subject of factchecking I actually had a commenter obviously a lions fan who said that Brad Allen the referee for this game has been the ref referee for all five of the games the Lions

Lost I thought that was a rather extraordinary claim so I thought well I need to check this out because if that’s true it’s meaningful you know what I found out and by the way you can find this out yourself just go on the internet and search for referee assignments for NFL games

2023 I found a site I don’t remember the exact title of something like the zebra room where they list every game and every referee that was assigned to that game you know how many times Brad Allen has been a referee in a game that the Lions played once the Cowboys game that’s

It but people throw these claims out with no proof no backing no anything and people start spreading it around and pretty soon you you’re hearing everywhere well Brett Allen’s been the referee for all the games that the Lions have lost I mean it’s it’s obviously a rig

Job you know facts matter truth matters at least it does to me I don’t know if it does to anybody else in this modern crazy Society we live in but it does to me so that’s what I’m trying to do is I’m trying to present some facts for you

And what we’re going to do is we’re going to look at some more videos and I’m going to show you how the media shapes narratives this next one is Rex Ryan thanks John for that Rex I’m just curious from your perspective do you think Brad Allen made the right call in

This position no 100% he he absolutely missed it 100% he missed it and would we please stop blaming the players the players did exactly what they were supposed to do every one of them right from Jared Goff going over and telling Decker go report he went right over there and reported

With that nod of the official the not the I think the official assumed 70 was CU he was reporting all day that’s a plan by the way but the where Dan Campbell failed is that he assumed that the official now if you’re listening closely to what Rex is saying he’s saying the referee

100 % screwed up then he follows that up with the players did everything right they reported and then he says now where Dan Campbell screwed up well you if Dan Campbell screwed up then it’s not 100% on the referee Rex come on try to be at least factually

Accurate try to at least try to be somewhat level in your responses I mean this is ridiculous would have got it right why because he went over it specifically with the before the game that’s what you do the officials come in you go over every uh trick play scenario and all

That stuff with the officials before the game so he actually tells the official we have a play where we’re throwing it to Decker and number 68 and he’s going to rep yes and there’s a grease board and you literally will draw the play up exactly how it is you would I guarantee

You he drew up the fake punch as well okay that that the officials got right and you know what this is a huge mistake but now here’s my question and I wish somebody would ask Dan Campbell this when you went to the referees before the game or the officials before the

Game and you drew up this play did you explain to them that you were going to be sending out two tackles together and one of them was going to be shading or or concealing the emotions of the number 68 so that the Cowboys couldn’t see it

And then you were going to bring a third tackle onto the field number 70 to try and confuse the Cowboys even further did you explain that no I guarantee you he didn’t explain that because you know what that’s not the spirit of the rule the spirit of the

Rule is to be fair that’s what it says it actually uses the word Fair here and I’m going to show you a video later where NFL players are aware of this and they’re definitely trying to gain the system but let’s go back to Rex the thing that bothers me the most

Is that we’re po we’re putting blame on the players stop the players did everything right so quit blaming quit covering somebody’s butt yeah and tell it the way it is be a man and take responsibility it’s BS and this thing right here and oh it’s just a game yeah

It’s a game that may very well costum the second seed certainly and possibly the first seed y now I’ve heard this claim multiple times that it cost or may have cost Detroit the first seed there is a very slim possibility that the Lions could have gotten the first seed here’s what would

Have had to happen they would have had to win uh beat the Cowboys and win next week and San Francisco would have to lose to both of their games this week’s game and next week’s game because if the Lions tied 49ers get the first seed based on tiebreakers cuz they have fewer division

Loss look it up you can look it up yourself it’s on the NFL.com website you can read it yourself I don’t have to to do this for you okay so this overheated claim that oh they may have cost on the first seed well yeah theoretically in the realm of utter

Possibility yeah maybe but you really think the 49ers is going to lose two games really it is a huge difference having to play on the road instead of playing at home and and and they’re going to be playing at home so let’s look at the next one okay come on

Now this is Rick Eisen now all of these people are highly paid they’re professionals they get a lot of money to express their opinion they’re very famous everybody knows who they are and here I am this little old man sitting in his house making zero dollar expressing my opinions and I’m

More accurate in the details than they are how does that happen this is a cluster full of browsers who aren’t buying ma you’re going to talk about the officiating Rich we got screwed let me just say this first of all the Detroit Lions got screwed that happened Brad Allen got

Confused you could say the Lions confused the official as much as they were trying to confuse the Cowboys should Brad Allen be confused the answer to that is no okay the Lions didn’t get screwed let’s be honest they didn’t get screwed they screwed themselves I I’ve said this so many

Times now I don’t need to say it anymore but they screwed themselves they were deliberately trying to deceive the Cowboys and in the process they also deceived the ref and that’s on them but they had two more opportunities to kick the extra point and go into

Overtime and they elected to go for it and they failed in both attempts they could have succeeded they could have scored a two-point conversion on that last play but gol threw a lousy pass that’s not on the refs that’s on Detroit they screwed themselves eles they could have gone in over time

And who knows what might have happened and even if they scored the two-point conversion there was still 23 seconds left the Cowboys had one timeout left they had cidi lamb who was beating the Lions to death on his past receptions and they had a kicker who by

The way can probably hit a field goal from 70 yards so there’s every chance in the world that even if the Lions had scored the two-point conversion the Cowboys could have gone far enough down the field to kick a field goal and win the game

Anyway so all of this is water under the bridge it you need to get over it and move on to the next week but these people who are on national TV who have big personas and big audiences and big salaries need to at least at least be honest about the

Facts and the facts are the Lions didn’t get screwed even if you think Brad Allen deliberately cheated the Lions on that play he had nothing to do with the following two plays just stop it it’s just it’s you know one of my pet peeves is the news media

Years ago in another life I had a Blog yeah M stop that on that blog I the very first article that I ever wrote was a story about a meteor that struck in Washington state it was an AP article said that a meteor the size of a car had struck

Outside a small town in Washington well I thought that was pretty remarkable so I Googled and said how much damage would there be from a meteor the size of a car and what I discovered was it would be massive damage for miles and miles around so I thought well man there must

Did you have any fatalities and you know what they said what meteor strike and I said well AP is reporting that a meteor the size of a car is struck outside your town and they said well we haven’t heard anything about it and I thought well that’s weird so I

Went back reread the article and in the article they quoted a professor from the University of Washington so I thought well let me call him up and ask him so I went on the University of Washington website looked the guy’s name up couldn’t find it so I called the

University of Washington and said I’d like to speak to Professor so and so they said we don’t have a professor by that name so where did the AP get this information why are they reporting something that never happened 2 hours later they res sended the article I don’t think it was because of

What I wrote but obviously somebody after they published did some fact checking said whoops we need to pull that one it wasn’t true what makes you think you can trust anything the media tells you you can’t you have to do the research for yourself you have to check up on them

Channel they call themselves a podcast it’s uh a couple of former offensive linemen talking about these types of plays and listen to what they have to say we did this in Buffalo so in 2018 we scored a touchdown on this play with Dion Dawkins um against the Jets and

What we did is as I ran out onto the field Dion’s job was to meet me over by the ref referee right we were to meet together like Alex was saying we meet at the referee and when we get there we don’t make a big scene of like someone

Reporting I go hey he’s reporting Dion goes I’m reporting as soon as we turned around to break from the refs the team broke the Huddle set go because we already knew the play right we didn’t need to hear the play we knew it was going to be on one so we break the

Huddle so they’re running up to the line as we’re running up to the line coming away from the official so that as the official is announcing hey 73 report is an eligible receiver the defense is trying to get lined up they’re not listening to the loud PA speak they’re

Trying to be like oh [ __ ] they’re getting hurting up to the ball they’re lining up right and then we get lined up we run the play Dion leaks outs for a touchdown scores right like that’s the mechanics in which we did this with but I just think that Brad Allen didn’t

Hear now do you understand what he just described to you the way the rule reads the person the ineligible person who’s going to be eligible on the play has to report to the referee and then the referee announces it or or or uh tells the defense who is

The uh uh eligible person and then he announces it on the loudspeaker that’s the process what these guys did was they deliberately planned to confuse by sending two guys out and then they also planned to run to the line and hike the ball as soon as the referee announced who the

The eligible receiver was so that the defense would have no time at all to adjust now you might call that gamesmanship I call that ignor ignoring the spirit of the rule and in my personal opinion if this is the way the teams are going to do it then they should

Eliminate ineligibles becoming eligible just wipe it the Slate clean no longer can an ineligible person be a receiver period because they’re ignoring the rule the rule specifically states that its intent is to make it fair for both teams if you do it correctly and the defense doesn’t account for the person

And you score the touchdown or the extra point conversion anyway that’s fine you won because you did it right but to try and bamboozle and get around the rues and kind of sneak around the edges and skirt the spirit of the rule forget it just take the rule out no more

Ineligible receivers no more ineligible players are allowed to rec report as eligible just can the whole thing okay I mean obviously from what this guy’s describing in 2018 that’s exactly what Dan was doing he specifically sent three people out including one who had reported as eligible previously in the game to try

And confuse the Cowboys and then they went up to the line and they ran the play and they thought they got away with it but they didn’t it’s time to put an end to the ineligible receiver rule just get rid of it cuz they’re not playing it correctly they’re cheating

Now I want to play you a short clip from Aaron roders Aaron Rogers gets it and you’ll see that first and 10 I believe there’s a five or six yard carry by Pard and they call it tripping when it was Hutchinson who reached his foot out to try and trip

The back I don’t think it should have been a trip he didn’t get him down flag it should have been on Hutchinson that half the distance to the goal that’s a first down I don’t think the situation would have even been close had they just made this correct call so this is yeah

On 29 yd line Pard runs what okay so he gets six to the maybe seven to the 22 now it’s first and 10 on the 11 right they call this penalty on the on 89 there I don’t understand how they do that it’s a total whiff of a call just

Total Miss but also Aiden didn’t actually get touch so it would have been better in the situation for Dallas is second two and a half right yeah exactly if the referees hadn’t screwed up earlier in the game it would have been second and two on the 22 for the Cowboys okay second and

Two and do you seriously think McCarthy would have tried to pass the ball McCarthy said in the press conference the reason he was passing was trying to get into a better position to hopefully get a first down and if they hadn’t screwed up the third down play they

Would have made the pass and they would have had a first down but they were put in that position by a bad call by the refs the truth is Henderson tried to trip but failed there never should have been any penalty called but but the fact

Is they called The Penalty on Dallas and set them back 15 yards back to the 45 yd line making it almost impossible for them to get a first down are extremely difficult and the end result was that Detroit got the ball with a minute and 43 seconds left on the clock plenty of

Time to go down the field if the Cowboys had gotten second and three or second and two whatever it was and run the ball twice and not made it they still would have eaten up probably half of that time at least so the Detroit Lions would have had

Maybe 45 seconds to try and move all the way down the field what have completely changed the complexion of the game and if the Cowboys had made a first down the game had been over at least Aaron roders has enough sense to see that but he’s not a highly paid uh

Initially the way that I saw it was that well maybe Dan Campbell and you know their special teams and every everything that’s involved didn’t quite understand that you have to report even if you’re in the game but then when you go back and you watch the tape

Now what what Troy is pointing out there is that number 68 was already playing in the game 70 was the one who came in he was a substitute and he had done that twice before in the game where he reported as eligible so what Troy is saying is maybe

They did didn’t quite understand what they were supposed to do but then he’ll go on to tell you that he thinks Decker probably did report but the referee didn’t hear it because he had already seen 70 coming in and I’ve seen videos where 70 has got his left hand in the

Air and his right hand seems to be moving like this if you can see that so 70 it looks like ran in and as he had done several times before made the report motions and then probably realized oh crap no that’s not it and took his hands and put him down by his

Side but IR it’s irrelevant it doesn’t matter what happened was the referee called 70 eligible that made the formation illegal because he was covered up it made the pass illegal and the reception illegal period end of game okay and then the Lions still had two more opportunities to either score the two-point conversion

Or kick an extra point and go into overtime and try to win the game but they didn’t do that and that was not the refs that caused that problem Dan Skipper comes in but Taylor Decker also walks over to the official and you only do that if you’re telling

The official you’re reporting is an eligible and so I don’t know if if if if he just didn’t hear that or what they said that only Dan Skipper reported but the evidence is is on the tape so it’s hard for you know initially I thought well maybe he didn’t report because he’s

Already in the game but hard to believe that he didn’t you heard elal Touch by 68 did not report as eligible so it’s right there yet you look at the replay and you watch Taylor Decker walk up to Brad Allen and say something it would be

Odd for him to do that typically he’d be in the Huddle getting ready for the next play I don’t think Brad Allen ever recognized Decker I think he sees number 70 come off the bench and he follows him all the way into the line of scrimmage he knows he’s going to have an

Ineligible come in and play eligible I think Decker tries to get to him and say hey me too I I’m with the ineligibles on this play my guess is based on where Brad is looking and the announcement there’s no acknowledgement well I you see that golf is trying to get Decker to

Go over and he and he does my guess is is that knowing how these things work Decker is trying to tell the official but he’s not wanting to draw attention to himself at the same time and but he does walk over there so I think it’s more that the official doesn’t hear Decker

Report yeah and as you heard in that video I played of those offens defensive linemen talking about the way they fooled the other team in 2018 that’s exactly what Campbell was trying to do skirt around the rules shade it do it in a shady way trying to fake out the Cowboys and it

Backfired sorry you you you screwed it up you’re all mad because he caught the pass but he was an ill legal receiver clearly was an illegal receiver because he was never announced as eligible and that’s it I mean that’s that’s the story even though he says hey I’m an

Eligible he doesn’t hear it he comes up and then the penalty is thrown but I just there’s no like Joe said there’s no reason for Decker to go over to talk to the official unless he’s telling him he’s reporting we’ll wrap it up here and uh and hear from the winning quarterback

Here now Joe thank you yeah see Troy at least is being honest I believe Decker probably did report he says he did I’ll take his word for it but he didn’t do it in a way that got the referee’s attention to the referee say wait a minute what do you mean

You’re reporting I thought 70 was reporting you see and as the NFL has pointed out it’s the responsibility of the player to make sure that the referee understands who’s eligible they didn’t do that they lost the game end the story but that’s a whole another issue

What I’m trying to address here is the narratives that are spread by the media that not only shade the truth but don’t even tell the truth I’m not going to say they lie because for example the the example of skip bis maybe he’s just ignorant ignant but you shouldn’t be getting paid

Thousands and thousands of dollars to be ignorant it’s I’ve been disgusted by the media for a long long long time and I got to tell you the sports media disgust me even more than the mainstream media they’re just completely out of control they have no concern for the

Truth no uh no fact checking facilities apparently no no concern about checking facts no concern about telling the truth no concern about even checking to see and if what they’re saying is even close to the truth it’s ridiculous and as for the ineligible reporting eligible I think the NFL

Should eliminate it completely eliminate it you don’t want to play fair then you don’t get to play at all period for all of you my viewers I pray that you will live abundantly that you’ll have a long life and that you’ll be healthy and that God will keep you safe from
