uh all right here another press conference here at the Wells Fargo Championship we welcome in Justin Thomas um Justin just thoughts coming into the week off of uh one of your best finishes of the Season thus far I’m uh I’m very very excited to be here a place that I really you know enjoy have a lot of fond memories uh of I I’d like this this course from the first time I played it my my rookie year so um you know with it now being an elevated event and and where it is in this in this schedule it’s um yeah I’m I’m excited to be here this week and a lot of talk on new greens tea boxes I mean what are your thoughts on some of the changes of the course yeah I’ve only seen nine holes I’ll check out the other nine today but um yeah I mean I’m sure I know this isn’t the weather they were hoping for I mean the G the fairways yesterday were extremely soft uh you know ball is kind of just sticking right where it landed and then because the greens are new they’re uh extremely firm so they’re definitely not near as fast as they have been in in past year so that’s a little bit of adjustment there but um you know you can only do so much I can’t do anything about the weather but the course is in good shape per usual and and hopefully they can you know Speed The Greens up a little bit uh as the week goes on and and I’m sure it’ll be a challenge as as always okay we’ll open it up for questions sweet should I leave uh Sean Martin on the left where do you feel like you are in the process of kind of getting back to where you were after last season I’m playing uh I’m playing plenty well enough to win tournaments it’s just about putting it together and and doing it at this point um I mean you I just am just trying to stay patient and keep you know keep my head down look forward and uh and just keep trying to improve and get better and better and uh you know I feel like I had a little stretch there after the the start of the Season where I I just didn’t have the results for how I felt like I was you know I was playing pretty solid I just wasn’t getting anything out of my rounds and and it was nice to get something out of you know kind of a Soo week at at Hilton Head and um so I mean it’s you know it’s getting closer it’s just one of those things that unless you’re the one at the end of the week holding the trophy you know it’s kind of hard to to put it in perspective so I feel like I’m close to that I just uh just got to stay patient and and let it happen and what was it like being back at all Hall with a a major championship about to be there it was great I hadn’t played in a long time I probably hadn’t played it in 8 10 years to be honest uh I I remembered more than I thought I would it it hasn’t changed a lot um you know more so just kind of like some new teas and and cleared some trees out to make it you know way more spectator friendly and I feel like you’ll be able to see throughout the course more which I thought was a was a great look but um yeah it it was great I mean it you know I have some some pretty cool memories at Valla and um you know I’m excited to you know hopefully make some of my own but on the other side of the ropes for a change we’re GNA go to Mark Center left uh JT looking ahead to next week what would it mean to to win it there and and how much support do you think you’ll have outside the ropes I I hope I have a lot of support um I mean I I can’t I can’t even relate to you know what it would be like and I I I I’m already I’m sure it’ll be you know quite a quite a challenge for me next week to you know to kind of deal with at all and that’s why I’m I’m I’m trying to not look forward at all I mean I have a have a huge event ahead of me here this week that I’m trying to you know play well and and try to contend and and get a chance to win and and then uh once this this week’s done then you know can focus on next week and and hopefully I can let you know Sunday afternoon next week got another one of the center hey JT I apologies if you’ve addressed this before but how do you feel about playing like a big signature event the week before a major would you rather take the week off or do you like kind of getting the the creative juices and the comptitive juices flowing when you’re going up against the the best tour Fields I I don’t know I i’ it’s weird I’ve always um or for the most part I’ve said I like to take weeks off before majors and the two majors I’ve won I’ve played the week before so maybe I’m just going about it completely wrong uh but I think especially I mean I already kind of felt that way but after playing it um valal on Sunday and Monday I mean this is a great this is a great prep in my opinion it’s a lot of driv drivers a lot of long mid irons um so I think in that aspect it’ll be good and and for me personally I I I think I would rather play I I think it’s it’s very dependent of the golf course like I’m not I don’t want to play a place that is totally and completely different or maybe you know a crazy travel from one you know Coast to Coast time change whatever it might be but something like this where we’re not far away it’s it’s going to be good to kind of get in the competition and um and hopefully get you know as ready is possible for next week going Bob in the center just wondered if um that 2000 season especially Valhalla ever came up if he ever shared anything about what that was like I mean um you know that week he won in the playoff and it was his third straight major and that had never happened since Hogan and obviously went on to win The Masters the following year just just maybe how crazy his life might have been or just the level of golf that he was playing at that time if he’s ever even shared any insight with you or if you picked his brain about it at all I mean i’ I’ve talked to him plenty about Vahala I mean he always as soon as I bring it up he always jokes that you know I I was probably still in diapers or something like that it was so long ago but um you know I I and I always remind him he was you know one lip out away from from losing to Bob May and the PGA and not having the tiger slam but it’s um I haven’t really I mean I think I’ve I’ve asked him plenty and talked to him plenty but it’s it’s just it’s one of those things I think I’ve asked him plenty of questions similar to that where you know you feel like you want to just get like a a a notebook out and write down everything he says you think he’s going to give you this elaborate answer but it’s just you know I think you see that a lot in like coaching and and sports it’s like Sometimes the best to ever do it are the worst at explaining how they did it um you know to him it was very easy at the time uh you know you I’m sure you talk to you talk to MJ and like how he won all those those rings and how he was able to dominate everybody like he makes it sound pretty easy when you ask him how he did it and I think Tiger’s very similar to that it’s when he was going about it it didn’t seem very difficult but he was just better than everybody else and it seemed pretty easy at the time so um I don’t really get anything out of him if I try to in that aspect we got another one on the left talk about being about being patient and getting the results that you’re looking for how close do you feel to being the player you were like when you won here at the PGA or at Southern Hills I mean does it feel like it’s right there do you feel the same I I mean the quality of my golf and my game feels uh more complete than it did then I would say it’s just about uh getting in the right head space and and executing when you need to and and just plotting my way around the golf course better I think I did I think I took for granted how good I did that um you know there for a couple years I just would accidentally find myself in contention and tournaments way more often by not forcing the issue or not making things harder than it needed to be and uh that’s I what I would say more what I’m trying to kind of get into because like I said I feel I feel great about my golf I I really have um kind of toward the end of last year but especially the start of this year and as the year’s gone on I mean yeah there’s always things that I want to get better at and feel like I can improve but I know I feel extremely confident that I’m playing well enough to win any week I play it’s just about putting it together and actually doing it at that point Sean just on on 16 here moving the tea back what does that bring back into that hole what are we going to have in what ises it like what does it bring back into that hole as far as the requirements of especially off the T um in my opinion it makes the t-shot easier um I think yeah they I I understand why they did it they didn’t want people sending it over the bunker anymore but if you had the wind direction to hit it over that bunker I mean a year like this it’s not going to make a difference because of how soft it is but I mean last year and I’ve had plenty of years where it gets firm and you know if you fly it over that bunker like it’s going to go 350 to 370 kind of thing but at the same time if you are doing that that you can hit it through the Fairway you know if you pull it slightly or you get it turning With the Wind whatever it is like the left Runs Out way quicker now obviously you have a lot of room right but um I mean I’ve hit I’ve pulled drives that have gone down there whereas now from that back te yeah we can’t cover the bunker but nobody’s going to be going through the Fairway so I think it’s something that’s you’re probably going to see less birdies but I think you’ll see um you know you’ll see less drives that get in trouble if that makes sense so I think in a perfect world it for me I would have liked to see the same te just move the bunker back if that’s um I know it’s never that easy but uh and also you don’t know I mean we’ll see how it plays this week and then in the PGA whatever it may be and uh and maybe it’s perfect but I it was a hard ho before it and it’ll still be a hard one now I’d say and we’ve got one back back on the right so next time the pros will be in North Carolina be down the road in Pinehurst what kind of thoughts memories you have from playing Pinehurst 10 years ago and what’s kind of expectation you want to carry into that I know we keep talking about Majors that are down but this is obviously the next time you’ll be around here uh yeah was my first my first major as a pro qualified for the US Open there um I mean my golf was very good in the tournament so the highlight of my week was probably the practice round of Jordan and I taking money off Ricky and Phil so that was uh unfortunately the highlight of my week but I learned a lot and I I like the golf course I thought it was pretty cool I just think I was a little in over my head and and and was a little star struck and and honestly just uh didn’t handle the moment great but um I don’t remember the course that well I think once I get there I’ll remember little things here and there but I remember a pretty good variety of holes which which was kind of cool um and yeah it’s hopefully they can get the weather uh permitting because it’s it’s a fun place I think when it plays firm and fast so it’s a nice little uh nice little stretch here for North Carolina any final questions if not I think we do have one special guest over here Joshua if you got a favorite golfer the jts awesome thanks y’all yeah man if you want over
