Golfer Hideki Matsuyama accidentally hit a spectator with his driver after launching it into the crowd at the Sony Open in Hawaii on Thursday, 9 January.

The club flew out of the 32-year-old’s hands at the start of the ninth hole.

The driver hit a rope before it reached two women at the front of the crowd.

Matsuyama immediately ran over to the spectator to check they were okay.

He finished the day with a 3-under 67 and tied for 26th place in the field.

  1. Hideki's fault. Guy is constantly showboating with dropped clubs and one hand finishes. He clearly could have held onto this!

  2. Hideki is a good guy . He's just got to be more aware that people are watching on the edge of the tee . Most of us have dropped a club when we've hit a bad one . Luckily most of us haven't got a crowd watching 😂
