In this video, Joe ‘The Pro’ Ferguson gets to grips with Bryson DeChambeau’s actual back up set of Avoda irons on the range with his launch monitor to see exactly what they feel like and how far they hit the ball. For those of you who don’t know, the US Open champion has a very unusual spec and design on his 3D printed irons which Joe explains in this video – be sure to watch to the end to see how far the 17° five-iron goes!

  1. Joe I would like to see you play these iron heads in shafts, grips and different lengths like you would normally use to see how the roll and budge iron faces work for you. Brysons one plane swing, very much like Moe Norman, make these irons with all their out of normal features work for him. Good luck using them in a tournament that seems a tough task, thanks as always!

  2. I don't trust track man. I really don't. I'm sorry. I'm just gonna say it. I don't trust it. I've seen so many reviews of so many different clubs on track man and then they go out onto the course and it's completely different! My advice would be don't get sucked in buy a hybrid

  3. Flattering to the ego??? It's not an 8 iron. its a 6 iron. Why not put a P on the bottom and tell everyone you are hitting a pitching wedge 180 yards. This thinking defies logic. Its not a frigging 8 iron. Fucking stupid

  4. Fun vid. I've got a set of their Combo Length irons, would be interested in something like this or their newly shown irons in 4/5/6i. Something a little more forgiving for all my poor strikes, and for 100mph+ speed with those clubs I'd be curious if the bulge is helpful at all.

  5. How long before bulge and roll are incorporated into mainstream irons? I'm not a golfing engineer but I can't see a downside (price?). If one were to play a set of hybrids down to, say, a 9 iron or PW, they'd all have bulge and roll so I can't see a rule infraction simply because they're irons and not metal woods. And of course if Bryon is using them, obviously they're conforming.

  6. I've been playing the Cobra one-length irons for a while now. I will never go back to variable-length irons. The "shorter" clubs (8, 9, Pw, Gw, Sw) are easier to hit than ever before.

  7. The club number is not relevant. How he spaces the intervals is the key. A difficult job for the caddy, to verify club selections for the shot distance.

  8. Joe, would be good to see you get a fitting into the Avodas to see how that compares to your current setup

  9. same shaft lenght, same swing weight but you swing the 5 iron 25mph faster than the lob wedge

  10. The heads are lighter so they don’t go as far according to Drew Cooper. Less mass = less distance to counter the effect of the length

  11. This is precisely why people get it wrong when they claim the distance he hits it is down the the strong lofts. Yes they go slightly farther but you’re still 40+ yards down on his yardages

  12. When you have the speed of players like DeChamBeau, the reason they deloft them is to set proper gapping distances and ball flight height. If they didn't the ball would ballon way up in the air and spin too much. I would be willing to bet that your peck height is a good bit lower than his with the same club. Therefore, less stopping power. His stock Lob 60* wedge is 110-yards, and he works off 15-yard gaps, that's how the lofts turn out the way they are. All that matters regardless of loft is does the PW launch and descent at proper PW angle, does the 8I launch and descent at proper 8I angle etc. BTW in the late 80's a stock PW was 50* just for one type of reference.
