Saw a massive uptick in the amount of people blasting music and drinking excessively after Covid. Seems like people care less about the golf and are using it as an excuse to hang out with their friends.
LurkyMcLurkface123
As usual, this falls on the people who are paid to deal with it but refuse: the course.
When it’s loud enough to hear from another hole, warn the golfers. If they hear it again, throw them out.
I know the office is normally busy setting as many 8 minute tee times for foursomes as they possibly can, but the ranger has no excuse.

I hate it but allllll of my buddies like it. Fml

Depends. If I’m just out playing a casual round and enjoying the weather and scenery, music can absolutely amplify the experience for me. I only play it at a volume I can hear tho and I turn it off if I’m coming up on another group.
garybettmansketamine
I’m gonna play music respectfully, you’re not gonna notice I’m playing music.
Everybody is happy.
steve_rodgers
I think it’s fine as long as it’s respectful. Kept at a volume where only your group is going to hear it around your carts, and if you end up in a group/near people you turn it down/off until you separate.
Unfortunately a lot of people now feel like they can just blast whatever they want at the volume they want.
Appropriate-Food1757
Especially country music

I play with music when I’m playing solo. However, it is strictly in my AirPods and no one else can hear it

Not unpopular at all. I love the peace and quiet while being outside. But if there’s a casual scramble tournament going on, I’m perfectly fine with music being played. It’s a different vibe completely.
done1971
Doesn’t bother me if I can barely hear it. People that crank it loud are just selfish people.
As always, I blame the courses lack of management. Lot less staff keeping pace, removing shit people these days. So it will continue, if a course allows it.
Most_Ad781
Music is fine on the course so long as other groups can’t hear it, and your group doesn’t mind it.

I think my favorite golf purchase I have ever made was getting AirPods. They sit comfortably in my ears while I’m playing, and listening to music or podcasts makes the experience of walking by myself 5x more enjoyable.
Elvis_Lives96021
I’ll play music as I’m playing at the level I can hear it. If I catch up to another group, I turn it down until they have moved on.
Morpheus1967
I have music on the course, but the only time you’ll hear it is if you’re sitting in the cart.
Kuntzsplitter
Keep it in the cart, I don’t mind if someone wants to hear some tunes, but you gotta be respectful of the way others play the game
ChazR
Depends on the course? Where I play I want to hear the birds and the kangaroos and the possums and the turtles plopping into the billabongs.
A suburban course next to a freeway? No issues there.
If I’m enjoying nature and your weird ‘rap sheet’ noises are ruining that, then no.

jford1906
Another reason why I like the first tee time.
Narrow_Technician_25
I 100% agree. The worst part is that it’s not just the younger folks doing this. I’ve seen every gender and age blast music from their carts. Let me duff my approach shot in peace please

i was away from golf from like 2007-2024 and was shocked the first time i heard someone blasting music on a course. always thought that was a ridiculous joke from caddyshack that no one would ever seriously try.
lals80
I had that opinion pre Covid when the only ones playing it were a$$holes and blasting it. post covid i love music out there and everyone is more respectful of the volumes
Buckeyeintheskys
If other people can hear it then yes. Otherwise I don’t care.
Vindicationnnnnn
If I can hear your music more than 5 feet from your cart, it’s too loud.
CokeCan08
When you use the word opinion don’t put it behind the word true. Most people I play with prefer light music. But I always ask in case they don’t. The point is everyone is different and I should still respect those who don’t like it even though I enjoy it
Kranke
Here we go again with the classic “US behavior as the general behavior”. In most countries, this is not a problem, and I would say it’s even less of a problem in countries where walking is the default. I play roughly 60 rounds a year, and I have never heard anyone play music on the course.
PutinBoomedMe
If I’m on a nice course I agree. If it’s a dogshit public or muni and it’s going to be bumper to bumper for 5 miserable hours then what difference will music make to make it shittier
Marine_1345
I play music where I can hear it in the cart. You can’t.

Stone cold fact
GoatBotherer
I’ve never heard music or seen people drinking booze on a course here in the UK.
Why do people want music when playing golf anyway? Half the fun for me is enjoying the beauty of the course and the relative peace and quiet.

A fairly popular one in every other country.
Cue the generations debate…
