Okay, so I show up to the course. You know, it’s the weekend, so pace of play might just a little slow. HOWEVER, don’t do what these guys did.
I show up to the tee box, on time and all. When I get to the tee box 5 mins before my tee time, the #1 fairway (a par 4) is clear and there’s five guys standing around the tee box. It was our time, so the pro shop people said to go ahead, as someone flaked out and they were waiting on someone to get to the group. Just as we were gonna go, the three guys to make it eight showed up and without asking anyone, the pro shop lady (and the group) proceed to ged ready to tee off. These guys apparently were supposed to tee off 20 minutes earlier, but didn’t do anything but stand there and talk with their music blasting.
Anyways, they are playing scramble and tee off as two groups separate. They should be fast, right? Wrong! Yes, they tee off at every hole as two groups of four, but the front group waits for the back one AT EVERY HOLE on the green, slowing things down. They took nearly 20 minutes on the 18th par 3 green… they also parked their carts around the green, all facing it like they owned the place. Every hole, we waited 10 minutes to tee off and the whole place was held up due to this. The pro shop knew about it saying they just kinda started appearing the past three days and didn’t know what to do.
I know many of you will say “play through”, but these aren’t really the guys that seemed like they would let you play through, and I was not about to skip two holes to get in front of them. The round took 4 1/2 hours. On a good day, I’m finishing the round in right at 3 walking the course

Fuck that I’m not asking I’m just sending it to the next hole
If the pro shop doesn’t do anything, leave a bad review on Google and stop playing there.
4.5 hours is pretty standard honestly and less than standard for the weekend so I don’t see how it’s possible what you described actually occurred on the tee boxes.
Why the hell would you want to play with that many people?
They suck and also 4.5 hrs on the weekend is standard these days
Obviously fuck that noise but my average Sunday round at a public course is probably 4 1/2 hours
Uggghhh, double foursomes are the worst.
As long as they stay up right behind the group in front of them I don’t mind
I may be dogshit at math, but you said 8 guys and there are 7 carts in the first picture.. Huh.
4 to 4.5 is avg time for a regular 4some on 18 holes
Like others have said, a 4.5 hour round in a weekend seems pretty normal to me. I’m more concerned that the clubhouse didn’t want to intervene?
I’m at a club now thank god but if I do ever play public courses on the weekend I’m ready for 4.5 hours to be the minimum. I can’t even remember the last time I played a public course on a weekend and was sub 4 hours lol
The problem isn’t the players sadly. Sure, I wish they’d have more common sense or courtesy. But the problem is course management. By allowing or putting up with this behavior and then not having starters patrolling the course monitoring pace of play and/or enforcing typical rules. It’s miserable out there sometimes. I remember 20 years ago almost every course I’d play had multiple starters driving around. Now a days I rarely see them on most courses. Courses should never allow this crap. But if they decided to then do the right thing and block off multiple tee times behind them and make them pay extra to do so. Courses have become too friendly.
This is on the clubhouse allowing it
This sounded awful until I read that the round took 4.5h.
Yeah ok on a good clear day you’re fast and you’ll do it in 3h flat but on a crowded weekend at a public course that…seems pretty average let alone for a course that would allow a group of 8 to play at the same time.
And yeah both 4-man scrambles could have played at the same time but really how much time would that have shaved off?
Dawg they don’t have a choice but to let your play through drive around them and if they’re hostile call the shop it’s really not that hard
Actually played behind a group that was measuring puts with a tape measure device of some kind
The technical name for a group like this is a “Gaggle of Chuds”.
Don’t tell my wife you played 18 in 4.5, she thinks it takes 8hrs to do 18.
If they are at or around pace of play set by the course, there’s nothing to do about it. 4.5 is not that bad.
This didn’t go the way OP wanted. Not responding to anything.
I miss pre-barstool golf
Lmao most course pace of play is 4 hours man
You don’t ask to play through. You just do it. F them.
I get the sentiment that you paid for 18.
I get that there’s a certain amount of courtesy expected on the course.
Why not just skip that group and go to the next hole.
Lets not all act like we’re all about to join the tour..
Lighthouse on a Saturday. Buckle up sweetheart. Just cool your jets and go play legends or Delaware springs
This is why people pay large at private clubs. To avoid trash like this.
If the gap is that big in front of them and the course isn’t packed, I would have jumped ahead of them. Then come back after 18 and play the hole(s) I skipped.
And fuck that course for letting 8 people take over the course. Pro shop saying “I don’t know what to do”.
Do your fucking job. Tell them to split up, keep pace of play and/or let people through.
People like this is why I’m an avid “Shrink the Game” guy.
And OP please put the course on blast. Course name with city and state.
I think you had everyone ready to defend you until you mentioned they played in 4.5 hrs. Thats the standard for pace of play for a 4some at most public courses on the weekend. With that being said….they suck for doing what they did at the 1st tee. Being late means anyone behind you who’s on time gets to skip you while you wait. You gotta speak up sometimes if the course wont do it for you. When the last 3 showed up I’d have asked to tee off anyway. Chances are they wouldn’t care. A big group like that will be more than willing to drink an extra beer while they wait.
One detail left out that im curious about. Did they keep up with the group in front of them?
