I started playing golf in May 2025. I broke 100 once shooting 98 in January. I just broke 93 today.
The catch….I was playing with rental clubs as I was sneaking a round in Palm Springs.
Wondering how much newer clubs contributed to my new best score. The clubs I have been using are hand me downs from golf friends. My irons are 10-15 year old Mizunos. My driver is the original Sim driver. My putter is a two-ball odyssey.
I’ve included a picture of the rental clubs. The putter is definitely a heavier putter and I felt like I was getting more distance with the irons.

I just replaced my x20s with the T200s. Could not be happier.
T200’s are pretty solid rentals ha, not my usual rental experience
The older mizuno irons are probably just traditionally lofted. The T200s are going to be lofted a little stronger which might contribute to the distance difference. The 7i in that set is 30.5° which is closer to a traditional 6i loft. The number on the bottom of the club barely matters anymore.
OG sim is maybe a little on the older side compared to the cutting edge, but not by much.
Putter tech barely matters. You can learn to putt well with basically anything.
You just had a good day and/or played a course that suits your game.
A rental Scotty phantom is insane
Indian canyons?
I demo’d that same set up for two days at Bandon after airlines lost my clubs. I went home and immediately bought the Titleist T200 irons and TS1 driver and 3W.
Just played around with some t250s, I loved them
I game T200s as a 8.1 HC. I love them.
Time to head to the proshop and see if they’re willing to sell a set to you
Just like everyone else here, you don’t suck at golf you just need new clubs.
Wtf those are my exact irons and putter. Nice rentals!
Where did you make up the scoring? Driver, approach, putting?
Broke 93??? 🤔
I was a ping guy for 25 years. While visiting my friend, I played his club with “rentals” Titleist AP2 and like you – best round of my life.
Been a Titleist guy ever since.
Enjoy your new T200s
Nice rentals. Love that Scotty
Well a whole titleist bag isn’t really “rentals” those are some of the best clubs on the market for anyone to pick up and easily hit.
How big is the course compared to what you normally play? I had a course i did better than I normally do and come to find out it was because the average yardage between that course and my normal course was drastically different.
Replaced my 2008 AP1’s with T200’s. Absolutely love them
It’s just palm springs man. Welcome to vacation golf!
The first time I broke par was with rental clubs, Starr Pass, Tucson. Seemed like I was more focused on making good contact with unfamiliar clubs & scored better as a result?
Yeah it was the clubs I also played my best round ever with some rental T200 clubs with a Tsi2 driver. Mid to low 90s scorer shot I think an 86 if I remember right.
It happens
Your rentals cost as much as my bag damn. Great score tho
Literally played yesterday in Punta Cana and they had T300s and TSR drivers with Scotties. Mediocre course with above average rentals.
Was very surprised.
Sneaking a round in Palm Springs and sneaking around in Palm Springs can have two extremely different outcomes. I’m glad you were able to get out for a round, OP!
First, great round. Keep it up.
Second, I’m a 6.6 right now still playing 30 year old irons, all original. I have hit new irons and don’t hit them any better. I believe that the player makes the clubs. I know that’s a hot take and some people won’t agree with me but that’s ok.
Those are top shelf rental…shit, a Scotty Cameron putter!
That’s a pretty solid rental set man
check your grip pressure, too tight can cause slices
