RIO GRANDE, P.R. – The University of Minnesota men’s golf team opens the 2026 spring season at the Grand Reserve Golf Club for the Puerto Rico Classic Feb. 9-11. The first round will begin around 6:30 a.m. CT on Monday. The second round will open at 6:30 a.m. CT Tuesday morning. The final round will commence on Wednesday at 5:30 a.m. CT.

The Golden Gophers competed last at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 19-20) in Vero Beach, Fla., where they carded a score of 20-under-par for a fifth-place finish. Three players finished in the top 20, including sophomore Jack Crousore’s eighth-place finish with a career-best score of 9-under-par (67-67-73–207).

The Field: 

Fifteen teams will participate over the next three days. Minnesota is one of the five Big Ten Conference teams competing, including Iowa, Ohio State, Purdue, and Wisconsin. Other teams include College of Charleston, Georgia, Louisville, LSU, Marquette, North Florida, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. 

Gophers’ Lineup:

Crousore, sophomore Chun-Ta Wu, freshman Joe Honsa, and seniors Cormac Sharpe and Jack Wetzel will compete in team competition over the next three days.

The Course:

The Puerto Rico Classic will occur at the Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, P.R. This is the fifth year that this event has transpired at this course. The course scores at a par-72 while covering 7,551 yards.
