Technically, the rules say you should mark your ball before picking it up in a bunker. In practice, that doesn’t always mean pulling a tee out of your pocket.
If there’s a clear indentation in the sand, you can visually mark the spot, identify your ball, and place it right back where it was. The key is accuracy and intent. You’re not trying to improve the lie or gain an advantage, just returning the ball to its original position.
This is a great example of how golf rules are about fairness, not unnecessary inconvenience, especially for casual play.
