I wish I would have known this driver setup template 30 years ago cuz I’ve been using it over the last couple years and it has completely transformed the game for a lot of my senior experienced golfers and it’s got five different things to it and of course the one magic thing that Arnold Palmer did that can help all of us hit our driver better so let’s get right into it here nothing more fun than hitting a nice long High Drive I’ve got my maxford driver right here so the first thing in the template number five is I want you to have a slightly closed stance okay so what I’m sitting here this is my taret Target line right here okay I want my toe line to be slightly closed to that so as a right-handed golfer I want my aim to be slightly to the right or slightly closed now when you do this make sure that the club face itself however though stay Square to your target line so my feet or my toe line is slightly closed but the club face is perfectly Square to the Target line now why is that important as we get a little bit older we don’t have the flexibility that we used to have and so by closing the stance a little bit that can help us rotate and turn a little bit more a little bit more excuse me so that’s number five now number four is ball position now this one is pretty true for all golfers but you know who you are my experiened golfers we love you out there Nick do we like experienced golfers or not yes we love the experienced golfers and we love hearing where you’re from but this tip on ball position is really good for anybody and that is that we want to tee the ball high and we want to get the ball forward in the stance so we want that ball to be pretty much off the lead shoulder so let me go ahead and just take my alignment Rod right here and I’m just going to put it straight back from the golf ball like so and you could do this with a golf club but make sure that that ball is positioned up forward in your stance and off your lead heel okay because when the ball is forward in the stance it makes it easier to hit slightly up on it and we know through advancements and technology that all things being equal if I hit up on the golf ball a little bit I’m going to get more distance number three has to do with our feet and this is going to look a little goofy okay but hang in there with me with your feet I want you to take your toes and I want you to flare them out a little bit so Square flare it out now why would we flare those toes out all right well we know that if we flare the toes out that increases range of motion in the body makes it easier to Pivot it’s a lot easier to Pivot like this when my toe is flared if it’s Square I can feel that that locks it in so if you maybe if your back hurts or your knee hurts this might be something that might help you out also okay so take the toes and flare them out that’ll help you increase your turn on your back swing and also of course increase your turn on the forward swing number two is shoulder tilt all right let’s get in set in here got my toe flare stand slightly closed face Square to the Target okay I got the ball forward all right now what I’m going to do is I’m going to take my shoulders and I’m going to tilt them just a little bit that also sets my shoulders up to swing more from the inside and as I’m doing that my shoulders are tilting okay I’m here they’re tilting but they’re also closing just a little bit everybody see how they’re just kind of closing now when they close a little bit that helps me not only hit up on the golf ball but it also helps me swing the club from the inside okay let me go ahead and hit one and I’m going to get to the number one thing that I tell everybody has to do with our great friend Legend Mr Arnold Palmer so here we go toes flared stance closed face Square tilt oh man I love this I love this driver this Max vert is super hot let me give you the number one tip the one that is the most fun and I think it helped the most you probably not have heard and that is what we call the high handle okay we’re going to talk about this in two parts high handle all right now part number one of the high handle is an address and setup so when you’re set in there you’re going to take the handle and you’re going to raise it just a little bit everybody see that so I’m in here I’m going to raise it just a little bit now why is that important well what does it do to my shoulders it tilts my shoulders what does it do to my stance and my hips it closes them a little bit everybody see that so when I raise it my right side goes down and closes and back my right side goes down and back and my lead side goes up that helps me swing it from the inside so that lead handle getting a little bit higher can really help so let me tie that together and then I want to give you the finish position that has to do with the high handle so this is the template the five different steps here we go so little closed right face is square to the Target line though toes are flared okay some tilt a little bit there high handle oh there it is again now when you finish I also want the high handle everybody see that so when I finish Boom the handle is high it’s not low and around it’s nice and high now that you’ve learned my driver setup I want you to check out this next video cuz it’s on Claire and how I changed her setup and I added 20 yards to her drives

  1. 5:07 "My driver set up?" Well, now is also yours, but instead should read "This driver set up," It's been there forever, but never taught by the standardized PGA, I reckon 😃

  2. Hi Todd, I recently put this in my swing and started hitting some great drives. Occasionally I hit one out of the heel which is annoying. Any advice please?

  3. 82 yo golfer your videos and book have helped my game tremendously. I drive the ball much better consistently. I bought the maxvert driver but can’t hit it as far as my regular driver and it goes right. Any suggestions?

  4. Todd, I love your videos. They are always helpful. Quick question on the last item–"high handle". How high? Is the toe still up? I am in Columbus, OH.

  5. After buying the Maxvert Driver, I went to the driving range to get used to it. Hitting 70-80 balls with the driver and I find them constantly hooking. Not just pulling to the left but a severe hook. Please help.

Great tips im 53 only started 6months ago so its a bit against with two hip replacements and still working with my son as a roofing contractor
    Enjoying the game

  7. Some nice tips. Just don't want to be playing with the guy trying to use them on the course. Slowwww play a comin'

  8. Best senior set up. Turn on the TV, drag the couch to seeing distance, grab a beer and a plate of nachos, turn on the golf and let the young bucks do the work. The white tees are too far back for us anymore, so fuck it.

  9. Allan Patrick – New Brunswick Canada There is a big difference between range time and working on the swing. How do we go to the course and get in the zone, trust the swing and become target focussed? I end up tinkering with the swing all round and never really get into the zone.

  10. Very interesting.
I started playing at 71 in 2021 with clubs gradually accumulated from the local Goodwill.
The old driver had a small face compared to other player's clubs but being new I didn't notice.
After two seasons I was very happy to be able to drive 140 yards fairly often and
get the direction within 30 degrees either side of my intention.
Then last summer, my 3rd season, having developed a slight golf addiction,
I decided to buy a brand new big faced driver from an actual golf store.
(Cost four times as much as all my Goodwill clubs combined (but half as much as a top notch club)).
At the time I didn't know what 'draw biased' meant and
didn't even notice that was printed on the non adjustable head.
I guess the salesman assumed everyone suffered from a slicing problem.
(club is a Wilson Launchpad, very light and whippy).
In any case, to avoid hooking, I was forced to rotate my stance clockwise maybe 15 degrees
    similar to your suggestion.
Since then, average driver range has gradually increased to about 220 (depending on how the back feels)
and even once or twice the ball went 270 (hit the sweet spot I reckon) and
direction has narrowed to mostly under 15 degrees either side of desired and
perhaps 20% of the time the ball goes very close to intended.
    So the question is,
why do most of my hole one drives go into the left woods but
by the 6th hole they've straightened out very nicely?

  11. I,m happy to be 40yds behind and on the fairway, while my buddies are playing from the trees and shooting doubles

  12. I am two minutes in and she is the one who is wasting my time. Get to it without the long intro. I am out and learned nothing

  13. Great video Todd, forgive me but i cannot make out the driver you are using. The wife keeps telling me i need to get my earing sorted.

  14. am 78 year old "experienced" but frustrated golfer. Have read The bad Lie and watched a number off your instructional videos, which have helped. However I have not found any comment/tip that addresses drives that go far and straight, but go straight right, not curved. Good contact, good launch angle but too far right.

  15. Leo from Brooksville Florida, I'm 73 and pretty flexible. my problem is my set up. I don"t understand how i can put my right arm down to my knee, tilt my head and still have 60/40 weight distribution. All my tee shots go anywhere between 200 to 225, all to my left(I'm right handed) Any thoughts?

  16. Thank you for the tips, I am 78 year old Swede who has had problems with my driver for many years. I'll bring your tips to Spain on Monday for a four-week golf holiday

  17. 70yr old here, have been doing most of these tips to good effect, the only one I'd add would be allowing the left heel to lift off the ground while keeping the head in the same position relative to the ball, that seems to help.

  18. Take your stance, feels good,

Take your aim, slip the right foot back ever so slightly,

Turn your right toe out, just barely, feels better,

Set your club, roll your left hand, feels like 320 yards,

Set your right hand, bring it over, look at your target,

Just to the left of the fairway, going to draw back to the fairway,

Wind, 5 to 10 mph, left to right, seventy five degrees,

    Birds are chirping, ready, set, aim , AND ………..F I R E!!!!!!!

Club goes back, you snap it back to make contact,

PING, the ball makes contact, then leaves the club face at a pace you have never seen before,

What a shot is your thought, and you look up to follow the trail,

Your thinking, 110, 114, club head speed, ball speed has to be 190,

You look up, where's the ball, you look higher, then higher,

Apex, 110, 120, no, apex 275, DUCK hook, left rough, if not in the woods,

    165 yard drive, lets recap:

  19. I’m 77yo, a very novice golfer having started late in life +/- 10 years now, i used what I could remember of this lesson today and it was my best driving day, the flared toes, really helped me rotate, my friends were commenting how well I was driving today, thank you

  20. OMFG! EVERYONE teaches the MISCONCEPTION of the golf swing which will result in the double-cross and is due to one word being misconstrued. What I affectionately refer to as the Procedural Technique (PT) is the answer, and apparently, I'm the only one that knows it, so good luck to higher scores because once the PT is known by all golfers shooting in the 50's will be commonplace by low-handicappers and pros ¿`_

  21. High handle is absolutely transformational……
Just come back from 9 holes of practice and could not believe how far I am hitting my driver.
I'm 73 and driver distance been as low as 175 yds. Today on one par four I measured my SHOT to 235 yds. That may not be huge for some, but for me with more physical limitations than I have time to list. Unbelievable…. My name is Clyde from the UK now retired living in Spain.👍🏻

  22. Again. Stop telling people to play it off your left heel. Nobody does this. They say they do but its just off your left ear.
