Cameron Champ has one of the most powerful swings in all of golf he’s currently leading the PGA tour in average driving distance and this is a category that he has led in before so let’s take a look at this golf swing and analyze how this is a golf swing that not only produces incredible yardage off the tea but has allowed Cameron Champ to have a very successful PGA Tour career being in the winter circle on three separate occasions now before we really dive into any of the mechanics it is important to note that simply put Cameron Champ is a great athlete and he has a ton of brute strength those are two things that you really can’t teach it’s just a part of who he is and his makeup as a golfer but in terms of his mechanics there are there’s so much that we can learn and really look at if you want to be increasing your distance especially off the te so let’s dive in let’s start off by looking at the takeaway so one of Champ’s biggest swing thoughts when taking the club away is that he doesn’t want to rush anything he wants a nice slow tempo because if you rush something then you’re GNA get your swing timing off it’s all Gonna Come Undone and if you want to hit the ball further a lot of times golfers will focus on taking the club back very fast so they can get through the ball very fast but if you look at some of the best golfers especially some of the longest golfers in the world They Don’t Really rush it through the back swing so just be sure to take your time because no matter how fast you think that back swing should be going it’s all for not if you can’t stay balanced and and get a central strike on the golf ball so never try and Rush that takeaway position so at the top of that back swing at the beginning of the transitionary move something that Cameron Champ and his swing coach Sean Foley really like to work on and it’s a very powerful swing thought for Cameron is to have that belt buckle turn to the Target as fast as possible so obviously what that belt buckle is representing is getting those hips active and firing through the ball as quickly as possible a lot of golfers will really try have their arms and their upper body just kind of muscle their way through the ball and power their way to get the ball out there when in reality you look at some of the best smoothest golf swings like Fred Couples Rory maroy Cameron Champ a lot of those golf swings so much of that power comes from the core and the hips so really try and keep cognizant of that belt buckle and at the very top of your back swing once you start that downswing try not to think about how can I get my arms through the ball Cameron Champ is not focused on getting his arms through the ball he’s focused on letting those hips unwind getting that belt buckle to go right at his Target as soon as possible and then if you can do that if you can get that lower body firing just keep your arms in solid positioning and they will follow and you are just inherently going to see better ball striking and hopefully a little bit more swing speed to get your ball out there now one thing that I do want to note and I think it’s a very important thing to address when it comes to hitting your golf ball further is so many people like to chase ball speed and so many people like to swing harder at the golf ball when push comes to shove there is nothing more important than having Central contact on the club face especially with driver we want to be hitting it very solidly so no matter how fast you swing if you’re hitting it way off the heel or way off the toe you’re not going to get the results that you need so if you want to chase swing speed that’s fine but don’t chase it by swinging as hard as you can at the golf ball losing losing your balance losing your Rhythm that is not the way to approach it Tiger Woods has a great quote that I’ve brought up on this channel before but he says that you should try to swing the golf club as hard as you possibly can while ensuring consistency and balance the consistency is referring to the consistency of the the strike obviously you’re not going to hit it dead center every time but if swinging really hard for you means that you’re always going to hit duck hooks because your face is closed and you’re hitting it off the toe then it’s worthless so swing speed great but always ensure that you’re making solid contact on your Club face another aspect of Champ’s golf swing that I like is that there’s very little horizontal sway we do see a lot of weight transfer in this golf swing you know in any powerful golf swing you’re going to need it but notice how in that takeaway that right leg gets uh so much weight onto it and what that weight on the right side does is once that belt buckle really starts to clear to that Target as we spoke about earlier all all of that weight from that right leg that right side transfers pretty quickly onto that left side and that transfer of energy as well as the unlocking of the hips that’s where all of Camp Champ’s real Club head speed comes from and that’s where all that power comes from is that weight transfer now cam champ is a master at this weight transfer for a right-handed golfer taking that straight right leg and really bringing all that weight forward to the left side throughout the golf swing is not easy to do it takes practice and it takes athleticism C champ has a great quote that he said in an interview with Golf Digest where he said I feel like I’m pushing into the ground really hard and that lets me build speed and snap the club head at the ball when champ is talking about pushing into the ground he’s talking about that left side pushing downward into the ground through impact and then releasing upward especially with that driver swing after the impact positioning so that’s called leveraging of the ground all great golfers do it all great golfers get a ton of speed from it so have have that swing thought in your mind of pushing that left side for a right-handed golfer getting that left side into the ground and then really leverage that ground and then push up get all that energy off the ground right at the impact position and you’re going to see a ton of great things in terms of your ball striking as well as your Club head speed and the distance that you’re hitting the ball off the tea there is so much to learn from a golf swing like this I think this is one of the Peak Athletic golf swings that we currently have in professional golf I absolutely love this motion and I think that there’s so much that we can learn I I could talk about this golfing for hours but I digress I wish cam nothing but the best in his pursuit of more wins on the tour I know that he kind of gets a bad rep because we haven’t seen a ton of consistency from cam champ uh throughout his career on the PGA tour but when push comes to shove he’s a three-time winner you can never take those three wins away from him he knows how to win on tour the ball striking is at what I would consider Elite level any week that he has that short game dialed in he can make some putts get his chips close he’s definitely a contender I’d love to see him get back in the winner circle soon if you have any questions or comments on cam Champs motion anything that I mentioned in this video or fail to mention please leave them in the comment section down below we read and reply to all comments on these videos as always I thank you all very much for watching play well and take care
