My normal driving distance is about 250m (273 yards), but this weekend something completely absurd happened.

EDIT: 330 meters = 360 yards

Wind was gusting up to 20 m/s (45 mph) and I step up to the tee. The group ahead is way out there, two people already on the green and two more walking up. I don't think for a second that it might be too early to hit, they seem far enough away.

I swing as normal. Hit a perfect fade and immediately feel that something is different, the ball just hangs in the air longer than usual. Earlier in the round I'd played several holes into a headwind, so my brain didn't really register what a tailwind of that strength actually meant until it was too late.

The ball lands on the green and sits one meter behind the flag.

The ladies ahead had no idea what had happened. From their perspective, a ball had just appeared on the green out of nowhere. They couldn't figure out where it came from it had simply rolled up onto the green while they were standing there.

I walked up and apologized. Embarrassing as hell, but at the same time… kind of insane? I've hit a green in regulation on a par 4 before, but those holes are around 250m. Not 330.

The ladies were very understanding and forgave me immediately, thank god. (Even though they had already marked the ball)

The thing that bothers me most about the whole situation? The ball didn't go in.

One final detail: this was the first time my girlfriend (who doesn't play golf) had ever walked a full round with me. First and only time she's seen me play in person. Would've been pretty cool to hole it in front of her.

A nice way of saying WTF and great drive 🤣🤣🤣

We have two par 4s that can be driven under the right circumstances (or by the bombers). We all kind of realize that if we’re on the green and a ball rolls up on us, it’s just not that big of a deal. No one is flying these greens so it’s not like you’re in danger and waiting for a par 4 green to completely clear before teeing off is asinine in terms of pace of play.

**Clarification:** It didn’t land on the green… The ground was bone dry and hard, so it just rolled its way up onto the green.

I’m gonna need to know what brand/model club + ball, asap.

Funny how that happens. I hit a 347y (about 80y more than typical) drive uphill on a windy day. If you get it up in a moving steam of air and make solid contact, it can fly forever.

I rolled one on to the green before similar to this.

But it was a par 3.

That’s how you politely say, “We’re still here – big guy” without throwing punches

  8. toxikmasculinity

Did you eagle? Inquiring minds want to know.

  9. My friend did this and the group on the green put his ball on top of a beer lol

I hit one over 430 once to the front of a downhill green. Was a nearly behind the back draw wind, horizontal right shoulder to left shoulder. I fucking killed fade into it, shit was orbital, but the wind overpowered my traj and pushed it left, it hit the fairway, kicked, then hit the cart path and we all laughed our asses off when it bounced all the way down and took a hard right to park on the front of the green.

I’ve hit a few miracles, but that one is one of my favorites

About 20 years ago my friend hit a drive at the University of Minnesotas (Les Bolstad) golf course which was a 306 yard par 4 (#6) and downhill. Got into the wind and landed on the green while the group ahead was on it. We had yelled “Fore!” We profusely apologized againby yelling “sorry!” When we got to the hole it was 4′ away.

We saw the group afterwards and again apologized. They told us the ball rolled on, hit the pin and ricocheted to its location. And never apologize for that.

One of the guys said “Can you imagine how we’d feel if the 2 some behind us got the ball into the hole before we even did?”

  13. And now comes the curse of waiting for the group ahead to finish out the hole on a par 4 as you’re going for it because you once hit a 300+ yard drive”

  14. Calm down Bryson.

    But seriously, that’s awesome!

  15. Did very similarly, felt bad as people were on the green, I apologized and they were rather impressed and ok with it. Still felt bad, so for the future I am waiting before hitting off the tee

Hit a drive almost exactly like this one of my best drives ever and proceeded to 5 putt lol nothing like driving the ball 10 feet away from the hole and getting a double

  17. Allthingsgaming27

Lol, thats awesome, and great shot

  18. TechnicalDecision160

That group ahead were cool guys 👍

For those who are American – that’s 360 yards

The straight up tail wind can give you some turbo boost.

Guy behind me and a buddy sailed the green on us one day while we were finishing up our putting. We’re like WTF is this guys problem?

But then the guy pulls up in his car and he starts doing circles like 30-50 yards before the green. Finally I wave him down and point to the far side. He pulls up and he goes

Guy: “That’s not me is it?”

    Me; “Sure is.”

*guy pulls up and looks at the ball*

*gets out of the cart and walks up to me in an apologetic stance*

Guy: “That was a 5 iron from 205! I have never hit it anything close to that far in my life! I’m so sorry!”

We laughed and congratulated him on the shot. But also it was like a fuckin 25 mph straight tail wind.

Also I think he was kinda hammered.

I know how you feel. I once hit a spoon from fairway to the green approximately 270-280 meters away. I was expecting around 230 tops.

To this day I don’t know what happened, but there was tailwind.

I drive about 250-260 meters normally.

I was both ashamed and very proud at the same time.

  22. Steelman_1

Which golf course were you playing since you’re using meters please? Costa Del Sol area?

  23. darkside66350

I’ve had this happen, but idk if it was ever this close!

  24. FakeGirlfriend

I gave two teenage boys a sharp tone when they hit up on us when we were chipping and the boy said “I’m so sorry, that was my drive shot and I’ve never hit the ball that far before in my life.” We quickly were like, “oh, in that case we’re happy for you.” Lol was a quick switch from you could have hurt someone to holy shit kid!

  25. BeefCakeBilly

That’s nothing, I’ve seen Redditors with 18 plus handicaps that average that with no wind /s.

    Congrats op that’s fucking awesome.

  26. WarfarterNeed

The only time I’ve driven the green on a par 4, the group standing on the green was more offended that I did it with a range ball than they were offended I almost hit them.

  27. Sad_Character_9956

Because you landed on green while they were putting? That’s why they teed up the ball

  28. King-Calovich11

Thank you for putting it in stupid freedom units for the likes of me. Great drive and great putt!!
