AIKEN, S.C. – In the final round of match play, No. 8 Wake Forest women’s golf defeated No. 16 Mississippi State 3.5-1.5 in the third place match at Old Barnwell Derby in Aiken, S.C
The match remained even throughout the first nine holes, with both teams staying within a point or two of the other. Wake Forest, however, jumped as the match progressed and would stay that way until the end.
With the Bulldogs securing the first point of the day, sophomore Chloe Kovelesky evened the round, finishing 5&4 after a dominant match. Despite falling behind in the early stages, graduate student Morgan Ketchum climbed back after being two down and finished one up to make it 2-1 Deacs.
Junior Macy Pate clinched the victory for the Demon Deacons with a 45-foot putt to finish 3&1 over Mississippi State’s Avery Weed, ranked No. 3 in the NCAA.

Wake Forest continues to dominate in match play boasting a 21-3 record since the 2023 national championship. Notably, the Deacs two most recent match play victories were over No. 22 South Carolina and No. 16 Mississippi State.

Last year, the Deacs finished tied for third with three players in the top 20 on the individual leaderboard. Freshman Chloe Kovelesky also boasted a spotless start to the day and finished her day T11 with an even-par during round three to secure another top-15 finish in her young career.
