Hey guys – 18 months or so I got divorced and moved into a townhouse with nowhere to put my sim. I boxed it up and have been sitting on it ever since, with the hopes I would get a new place to set it back up. At this point I no longer think that plan is realistic so I'm looking to sell it off. For those of you who had to take the unfortunate step in selling your sim, how did you go about it?
What I have:
- Fiberbuilt Player Preferred 8×4 hitting mat
- Uneekor Eye Mini launch monitor
- Panasonic VMZ51U projector
- DIY enclosure w/ premium screen (97.7” x 149.4” x 59”)
- Enclosure piping from Lowe’s
- Putting turf
- TV cart (Mount Factory)
Rough original retail was in the ballpark of $10k. I don't have the laptop anymore as I gave that to my son as a gaming PC. I'd probably include the 55" TV too. I only used the cart as I couldn't find a way to mount the projector in the room. Question wise:
- How much of a haircut did you take when you sold it?
- Did you sell it as a full package or part it out?
- Where did you have the most success — Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, eBay, golf forums, local FB golf groups, etc.
- How long did it sit before selling?
- Any tips/tricks for pricing or negotiating?
I'm located in the Twin Cities metro, where this was a godsend for my winter mental well being. I'm sad to be making this decision but I've got to be honest with myself. I appreciate any/all advice! TY!

I can’t speak to selling a golf setup. But I have sold a lot of niche things. High end road bikes, motorcycles, and other stuff.
I have had the most success on FB Marketplace. Then Offer Up, Craigslist in that order.
My suggestion would be to shop comparables. Look at similar or exact items for pricing to gauge a realistic asking price on the same sites you want to sell.
If you are not in a rush and you know the value of what you have be patient. You will get low balls, just pass on them. Someone who knows what you have and understands the value and price point will come along eventually.
I’ve sold on eBay. They will tax you for everything you sell. I took a Major loss with then selling some expensive computer parts on their site.
Hope that helps.
What do u want for it?
Roughly 50% haircut when I sold my set up (unlocked BLP, 4k projector and gaming laptop).
Certainly try Facebook Marketplace, but you could also try some of the Golf forum websites (GolfWRX, THP, Golfsimulatorforum, mygolfspy, etc.) as that’s where serious golfers that would be interested in a legit setup like this would look. Your average joe looking on Facebook/Craigslist probably won’t appreciate your elite hitting mat, launch monitor, etc.
When you sell everything together, you’ll probably lose more money than selling them individually, but it’s also more of a risk/hassle to you to wait things out/barter with multiple people/ship individual items on different days. Most of the stuff should hold its value decently well, all things considered. You won’t get much for your TV, and the Eye Mini is less popular now that you have Spica 3/Square Omni without subscription fees and better club data.
As far as negotiating goes, there is a VERY, VERY small market of people that 1. Love golf enough to pay for a tour level practice setup 2. Have the money to afford said setup and 3. Have extra space in their home for the setup. You may only get a couple of opportunities in a 6-12 month timespan, depending on where your initial pricing is and how aggressively you market this. If I were you, I’d compare similar sales online, then come up with a number you’re happy with that’s in the ballpark of what has previously sold, and price it above that. Then, you can haggle and offer a discount so that both you and the buyer feel like you won. The fact of the matter is that it’s a buyer’s market for this stuff. Lots more for sale than there are buyers out there. Most people that can afford these things are building from scratch/building new, as a couple thousand dollars saved isn’t a huge amount, all things considered (I’m not talking about the people with a rapsodo hitting on a range or into a net–I’m talking about the folks with full indoor setups like this).
If you can.. Please keep it man.. setup in a buddies garage. Or just store it there or make space. I’ve sold so many things over the years that I had to re-buy. I mean yeah it was to pay bills and some items have EXPLODED in value (magic cards, Pokémon..) that hurts more than having to re-buy lol I can’t lie.
No sell, only buy.
Golf equipment in general has an insane loss of value as soon as it’s been used. Launch monitors are a niche area and is harder to resell considering only a certain percentage of golfers are in the market for them.
You’ll lose more money if the item in question has a higher MSRP. For example, if you were to buy a trackman for $25,000, you’d probably be lucky to recoup 50-55% of it back, but on a lower budget item like a Skytrak, if you buy it for $800, you can probably resell it for around $500.
I sold my Eye mini a while back when I upgraded to an XO2 and I definitely lost a bit, I think I sold it for around 2500 or 2800 (I don’t quite remember). MSRP was around 4000, a lot of the cut was mostly because eBay takes nearly 14% of the final price, but it was still reasonable considering I was looking to recoup after upgrading.
I would honestly expect to lose anywhere from 35-50% of the MSRP, give or take depending on the condition of items. See if anyone in your local area is interested. Best of luck!
What would you ask for the eye mini? I might be interested in that
Smaller sized stuff I have sold on eBay, larger stuff on Marketplace and Craigslist. I always price stuff to sell quickly. I got what I wanted from it and it will make the next person’s day. The $ you’re sitting on is only going to diminish as time goes along, especially on technology.
Would of kept it for the ex-wife new bf and probably come over and have a session with him every other week
Hmmmm. It’s a bit of a hike. How big are the boxes? I’m 2 hours east of Chicago.
