He Beat Prime Tiger Woods. He Won Millions. He Vanished.

You don’t need to be Tiger Woods to build generational wealth in professional golf; you just need to get lucky for four days. We break down the top 5 PGA Tour “one-hit wonders” who hacked the 5-year exemption system to earn over $40 million combined, despite disappearing from the leaderboard shortly after. From Ty Tryon’s $8 million teen contract to Ben Curtis’s shock Major victory, find out how these players beat the house and secured the bag.

In this episode of Fairway Fortunes, we investigate the “Lightning Strike” phenomenon. While legends like Greg Norman and Ernie Els battled for decades to build their empires, a select group of journeymen managed to cash the same checks with a fraction of the resume.

We uncover the financial reality behind the “fluke”:
The High School Heist: How a 17-year-old made $8M without winning a tournament.
The Imposter: The World #396 who took down Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh.
The Journeyman: The 38-year-old who used a “gadget club” to beat the Big Easy.
The Curse: Why winning a Major Championship actually ruined one player’s life.

Would you rather have the legacy of a legend with all the heartbreak, or the bank account of a one-hit wonder with none of the pressure? Let us know in the comments.

  1. Rich Beem also won the Kemper Open, I know because I played with him that week. I also think he won another Tour event. 3 wins including a Major is not a one hit wonder. Many journeymen play decades, make lots of cuts and lots of money but never win

  2. To be a consistent winner is actually more about mental strength than skill. Total belief in your own game, trusting your putter, lots of practice to hone the talent, and the will to win over and over and to keep grinding out good scores.
I have seen players who have won a few tournaments and then get the yips with the putter or lose their swing. Some players have a 5 year period where they are really good and win now and then but then fade away.
There are only 6 players on the PGA Tour who have won more than 50 victories. 2 in the 40s, 7 in the 30s, 21 in the 20s, and 14 in the teens. That's the top 50 players. Equals 1503 wins by all of them.

People should remember, on Tour, there are Pros, and then there are Superstar Pros who are more consistent and overall, are just that bit better.

  3. We have to take whatever life throws at us. Sometimes it's good sometimes it's bad. But winning a major golf championship is not easy. Good Luck to all five of them. Bye the way most people get up early in the morning to go to jobs they don't like. I'll take the one hit wonder ten million.

  4. Nobody gets lucky 4 days in a row on the PGA your. You have to have some skill and not everybody can be tiger woods.

  5. Ben Curtis had 3 more tour wins after his Open victory, you clueless jags… hell, you even showed him holding a trophy from one of those wins, ffs

  6. When I was a kid my parents and I went to watch them play at Riviera. The first group we followed had a fellow named Olin Browne. Had never heard of him. Years later I seem to remember him winning his first tournament after years grinding away as a journeyman.
