The L.A.B. Golf DF3i putter keeps the same lie-angle-balanced design that made the original DF3 popular, but adds a milled stainless steel insert to change sound and feel at impact. The question is simple: Does that change actually make it better?
In this video, I test and break down the DF3i, explaining what’s different from the original L.A.B. DF3, how the stainless steel insert alters feedback, and whether the new offering matters for real golfers. The head shape, weighting, and balance philosophy haven’t changed, but feel is one of the most personal aspects of putting, and this update targets golfers who want more traditional feedback without giving up lie-angle balance.
I’ll also explain how lie angle balance works, why L.A.B. Golf is so specific about fitting, and who should consider the DF3i versus sticking with the original DF3 or looking at other mallet putters.
If you struggle to return the putter face square or consistently start putts on your intended line, this design is worth understanding before you make a decision.

Just purchased, excited for the insert. Thanks for the review
I have the DF3. Tried the Oz.1i and it came way too hot off the face for me with the insert. I’d assume it would be the same for the DF3i
Hope they might release other face options, don’t love the feel of the insert
They NEED to complete the insert family and make a DF 2.1i.
The fact you have to even say "I stand for insert" is fucking hilarious. This could be a 2 second video. Look see DF3, it now has insert. Same same.. But different… But still same.
I am wondering why the df3i is not being offered in the sweeper or armlock versions? Would you know if it’s something they’re working on or does the technology not work for those versions?
Good review, wish you highlighted the supposed improved ballspeed vs non insert Df3. Could you maybe do a comparison video where you use same length of stroke and compare how much further the df3i runs out if any? Thanks sir!
Great review! Just switched over to an OZ1i a month ago and now have this on the way to replace my old DF3!
