golfers, do you struggle with your fairway woods, your long shots, your 3-wood in particularly? What about your fivewood off the fairway, sevenwood? Are you hoping that you get it in the air? Well, follow along in this video and I’ll give you some clear steps how you can start to implement a much more effective process. Change the way you go about it, not only internally but physically and get the ball fizzing off the club face, so higher on the club face to launch it and enjoy your golf a lot more because you got further down the fairway towards the green or onto the green. How about that? Welcome back to my channel, Know by Design Golf. I’m Karen Davis, LPJ Professional, and I’m here at Indian Peaks Golf Club up in Lafayette, Colorado. To get more success with your fairway woods, you need to make some small adjustments in your setup. So, let’s go over those in step number one. So when we set up to a fairway wood, so many people think they need to sweep um and just sweep the ball off off the ground and their angle of attack then tends to be more up because they’re not trusting of the loft. And what we actually need is for the delivery of the sole of the club and the loft to be slightly down, three to one degrees down. And so in our setup for all of you, I would say that your stance is going to be insteps uh just outside your hips. And then if this is the middle of my body, I would say that you want the golf ball just on the left side of your face or on your left ear and at least one club head, maybe one and a half club heads inside your left heel. So when you set up, it’s going to look more like this. And can you also see where my hands are? So my hands are more above the golf ball. I’m not setting up. So I’m not setting up like this. This is too much tilting to the right. We do have some spine tilt to the right, but it’s a tiny amount. So, these tiny adjustments in setup are going to get you more success when you go to swing the golf club. So, here’s the way to set up. Club face aimed where we want to go. Ball position more off the left side of my face. I’m balanced and primed and ready for the swing. And my ball position then will is in a place where when I move across I’m I’m going to disturb the grass. I’m going to squeeze the ball out and get the contact more on the above the midline or higher on the face and not so low. So, we won’t be topping it or mishitting it and dumping the club back here because we’re trying to help the ball up. The other key thing with this is a lot of people think that this distance away when they’re reaching and my hands are way outside my uh where my face is. We actually need to get our hands more under our chin. So, we want our hands more under our chin. So for me, I have a tendency to reach a little bit, but what we want is for the hands to be under the chin and that when when you let the club drop that it it’s going to it’s going to get where it catches your lower body and you’re not so far away where it doesn’t catch any of your body as it drops. So this is the distance away. Hands more under your chin. And then when the club drops, it catches your lead thigh. So when we swing, when we go to swing, we we want to have a lot of trust and we don’t want to be choking the club, but our grip is firm and we want to keep our sternum over the ball. So, we want to keep our sternum over the ball. We don’t want to be with our sternum back here over our right instep. So, if I keep my sternum over the ball and make a a smooth sequence swing, the ball will fly. After we’ve done the setup, we need to get where we get the club moving on a bigger circle. So, we’re coiling going back and then we’re getting our hands low. So, our hands low and moving across with our lower body. And then we’re going to thump the ground and finish with our right knee kissing our left knee. Golfers, if you were to take a barometer of your belief about what you can do with your fairway woods currently and then apply what I’ve gone over in this video, I do believe that you can make a difference in the way you swing the club, but also number one, you got to change your mentality, change your setup, train in what you want so that you can transfer it to the course. And then over time, you will have more fun seeing your ball uh coming off higher on the face, launching in the air as if it was going over the pine tree, and you get closer to the green or on the green with your big clubs, your fairway woods. It’s fun for me to make these videos. I enjoy helping others with their golf game. Really like it if you would subscribe to my channel, leave me a comment down below, and give me a thumbs up. So now here, let’s go into the drill that’s going to help you train in being able to hit your fairway woods in the air and have less angst and worry about playing the long shots down the fairway towards the green. Golfers, here’s the drill, the 3T drill. You want to displace all three T’s. The golf ball is sitting on a low tea. And then I’ve got one T, the brown one that’s behind it by about an inch. And then I’ve got another one that’s taller standing up that’s on the target side. So, let me show you the 3T drill. So, this is the 3T drill. And the goal is for me to get my right knee to kiss my left knee as I go to thump the ground. Move displacing the three T’s.

nice one Karen, keep them coming
My 7 wood goes only 200 yards because I hit it far too high airplanes get in range when I hit a 7 wood any suggestions? It should go 225 yards or it used to.
I tend to hit behind the ball with fairway wood, is it because I stayed back too much?
Can’t wait to try these tips at the range
Karen, am really enjoying your training approach. Methodical and science based.
