Penalty drop for me, then chunk it back in the bunker

I’ll share a little tip: try cutting the left edge of each shoe into the bank a little when you wiggle your feet in. You can almost build a flat ish stance for the feet at least, it really helps fight the tendency for the weight to fall backwards.

Honestly you had it right – the play with a ball specifically plugged in a steep bunker face with a lip to clear like that – you setup almost normal, and then just rotate the club in your hands 90° till the literal toe of the club is pointing right at the ball. Then swing super hard and hit behind the ball. The impact will drive the face open and pop the ball out normal.

His correction to turn the club back to its usual position meant the impact would cause the face to just open fully and smack against the sand. You had good power and sand is pretty dry, so it worked, but next time try it how you were gonna at first!

This is a very easy bunker shot. Just dig in right behind the ball like you’re chopping a tree. Make no effort to follow through.
