So, are you looking for a little bit more consistency in your golf swing? Well, I’m going to show you a drill that’s going to give you consistency in abundance. All right, you’re going to love it. It’s easy to do and it’s going to help you play better golf. So, come on, let’s go do it. So, one of the things that we often see with golfers that really struggle in the golf game is they have this issue with knowing where the club should be in this time or place during the swing. Now, there’s no such thing in our world as positions, okay? There’s a movement, okay? the golf swing as a dynamic action, but sometimes we want to have it in a certain area that it’s easier to transition from. Now, the golf swing though can vary. We we like to call it windows of opportunity, but it’s something that I’m working on in my own game at this precise moment in time. And I’ve always been a little bit of a a swing around me sort of person, get very flat or very low, my hands and arms, and that can make me come sometimes down a little bit steep. So, I’m working on trying to get the club going up because I want to allow gravity to do that that for me. But I don’t want to just feel like I’m just picking the arms up to do that. I want to get a feel of where I want to be roughly in time and place. So, there’s a great drill that we do. We call it the fourstep drill. All right? And what it is is I start off with a a a normal stance, normal setup to the ball. But what I would do is here from here is I would literally just pick the club up. I put it on my right shoulder. Okay. So, I’m bending from my elbows. I stay in golf posture, as they would say. I’m just going to then push my right hip back and get my my back to face the target. And then I’m going to extend my arms out away from me. I feel my right arm is pushing the butt of the club further away from me as far as I possibly can. Okay? I can feel my right hand or my right palm of my right hand pushing my left thumb away from me. And this gets me where I want to feel. So, what I mean by that is I go up here, turn back, and feel that here. I feel like my hands are suddenly a lot higher. I feel like I’m up here somewhere, but I’m not. Okay? And from here, then I can then hit the shot. So, it doesn’t matter where it goes, but I’m just going to literally go one, push back, two, and hit. Okay? Now, when I do that, all right, I went a little bit left that one. But when I do that, I get a much better contact on the ball because my angle of attack changes. Now, obviously, I’m not at full speed doing this, but I’m trying to get a feel of where that club should be. So, I I do this motion. I go through it all. I turn back, push my arms up here, and I think that’s where I want my hands to be. Okay? And I get a feel for it. And then I’m going to take that same feel. I’m going to rehearse it. I feel that’s where it was. I’m just going to rehearse it. And I’m just going to then make a slower sort of swing just to practice it. Okay. So, I’m just feeling it of where I want to be regardless of where the ball goes. It doesn’t really bother me too much because I can then work on hand action and stuff like that. But just doing that drill helps me just to get that feel of where I want everything to be. Okay. It just reminds me, it’s like um isometric training to a certain degree. So, I feel like it wants to be up here more. Um so, I go back and through. Okay. And I get that feel. I can feel it. I can sense where it should be. It’s a great way. I’ve been doing that myself for two other reasons as well. And I’ll show you what the other reason is as well, just from the face on angle. So, just from this angle here, it also helps me as well because one of the things I’ve always had a tendency to do was I always had a tendency just to sway off a little bit, then turn into it. I always felt like I had to get pressure into my right foot to then turn back and then turn through. It’s an old old movement. So, when I do this drill and I start from here, I lift the club up, put it on my shoulders, and and then what I’m going to feel here is I feel like my right hip goes straight back and up. And this helps me to stay more centered in the swing rather than this sway over to the right hand side and feel like my chest is over my right knee and all that business. So, I just feel as I just go up, push that back up here, and then hit. Okay. And that’s just one of the things that I’ve been working on. Again, my compression has been a heck of a lot better. Um, my club path has also been a heck of a lot better as well. I’ve always had a tendency to come a little bit inside the line, so I’m just keeping a bit more on top of it. Really helps me out massively. So, yeah, I’m not hitting this at full power, but I’m getting some good I don’t know. You you you know what I mean? It just feels nice when you hit it properly. All right. So just doing that drill, this simple drill of lifting the club up, push that back, push that up there, just really is helping me get into a better chance or better opportunity then to transition down into the ball. It’s one of my favorite drills. I do it a lot with clients because when they do that, they suddenly get a lot of consistency in their swing. All right, so and yes, you do it with every club in the bag. All right, so I’ve just got my seven iron here. I tend to practice with that one, but you can do it with all the clubs in the bag. In fact, if only do it with the clubs you want to hit, great. So, there you have it. Okay, it’s a very simple drill, but it’s something that um I suggest you give a try. Just get a feel for it. If you’re struggling with where the club should be or what you should be doing, this just simplifies it straight down. It’s called the four-step drill. Um I suggest you add it into part of your practice session or part of your routine if you’re really struggling with your game. So, you’re just lifting that up, turning it back, push that up, and hit. Right. A little bit thin. Just do it again. Okay. The main thing is with the practice session is I’m learning those feels and that’s the key thing. All right. So, let me just do that again. Up, back, up. There we go. That’s better. Okay. I’m feeling where I want that club to be at my moment of transition as I come down to hit the ball. Okay. Makes a huge difference. Hey, I lost me lost me fluff. So, thank you for watching. Uh, please remember to like, subscribe, and to share this video with your friends. If you have any questions about your golf swing and you want to answer it, drop it in the comments below. I want there to be a community of golfers here that want to find out more. Um, or let us know what you’re working on currently with your game. I’d love to hear these things. Um, might even steal them for another video. But anyway, thanks for watching and I’ll catch you next time.

  1. Thankyou for that little gem most interesting as I don't imagine anyone has any idea where to be especially those of us that never even stretch first or just go through some motions on the first tee box ,ring any bells?

  2. I've long been a fan of that drill to eliminate excess arm abduction, eliminate the arms being stuck behind the body, and to prove that the arms do very little (maintain width) in the backswing. The question is what changes and why in a normal swing to get you, I, and many others in a worse top of swing position than this drill puts us in. My guess is firstly no one told us about arm swing illusion and showed us that drill when we started the game. Second, what's different with movement patterns in a normal swing. You mentioned you have lower body lateral sway in the backswing, and pulling your right hip pocket straight back helps avoid that. What's different in your upper body motion in a normal swing compared to the drill? In the drill what turns your upper body? Do you feel your right side (shoulder, lats, abs, etc pull straight back behind like the right hip does? Do you feel both sides of the torso rotate around your spine? Something else? What feels does the drill give us that we could carry over to a standard swing?
