My heart dropped when I got this notification, I honestly didn’t think I’d have to put more effort into putting “fragile” and “this way up” on the box than how the box looks as is lol but in case you see this as you’re packaging up your clubs, do it anyway. Live and learn on my end I guess, my expectations of people decrease everyday it seems. They’re in a soft case and I put extra padding in the actual bag between all the clubs, but still, upside down? Am I overreacting? Lol.

Don’t they just use Fedex as the carrier? They are not know to care for handling of any package.
Not overreacting at all – they literally had one job and couldn’t even get the orientation right.
Hard case or bust IMO
ShipSticks doesn’t do the delivery. They’re the middle man between their carriers (DHL, Fedex, UPS). Take it up with the carrier. Also ShipSticks provides both basic insurance for free and extra insurance (at a reasonable price).
Bold. advertising whats inside of the box isnt the play i would make.
At this point, i’d rather just pay to rent clubs if i’m playing somewhere else
When I bought my case I opted to spend a few more dollars forthe hard case opposed to saving a few dollars on a soft case. Would rather spend a few more upfront opposed to couple hundred on the backend for broken and damaged clubs- and then also being out that time for the club repair/replace.
Wait you packaged it yourself with your own materials? What does shipsticks actually do? You put in your information and pay them so they can put in your information and pay fedex whilst pocketing the difference?
Good delivery boy
Yea I have a hard time understanding how ship sticks has grown so large given the nonstop horror stories from customers. It’s not always an issue, but if not for the branding and positioning as a golf-specific service, and people were just asked to ship their clubs FedEx/UPS… most people would understand the risk better.
I’ll keep the inconvenience of a hard shell any day.
My sticks were left on my front stairs facing the road and FedEx didn’t bother ringing the doorbell. No box or packaging (hard case), so I am lucky nobody just walked away with them.
Hard case is the move, I’ve looked into shipsticks and the cost was more than if I had to check my clubs. But we fly delta 95% of the time – I use my free check bag for my clubs and then pack a carry-on with clothes, and a backpack for misc stuff, doesn’t cost me a dime.
Why do people use this service? Pay $35-$40 and check them as baggage for the flight.
Such a weird thing to do especially given the consistent issues and horror stories.
I’m more terrified to use ship sticks than I am to fly with them in a hard case
I’m not familiar with ship sticks, maybe they don’t advertise use of global carriers. But if you’re shipping anything that goes through a carrier in a box there’s no point to write “Fragile” on it. It’s obviously going to get thrown in a truck in whatever way fits best with other packages and have more boxes stacked on top.
I’ve never understood why golfers who pay all the money to go on trips don’t pay all the money to protect their equipment the right way. Hard case travel case, padding, take driver heads off and put in your carry on, etc etc. air tags in the travel case then just pay the money to check the travel case and move on. I’ve traveled all over the world. Never once had an issue.
I thought they went out of business
I have flown with my clubs dozens of times and never had an issue. It costs the same as a regular checked bag. I don’t remove the clubheads or anything, just use a soft case with a stiff arm and a few towels stuffed in the top. I cruise over to the oversized luggage and they’re waiting there for me. I think there’s a lot of manufactured hysteria in threads pertaining to this subject.
Just rent a quality set that’s close to what you use.
Honestly, I find the service works better if you work with a golf course, who’s a partner. My Ship Sticks experience with Bandon was flawless
Yes, you’re over reacting IMO. I bet the clubs are fine. The heads are designed to smash into the ground repeatedly, they’re not made of fine china
IDK if it’s ShipSticks’ fault that their last mile company sucks, but here’s what I would recommend whether traveling by airplane or by courier:
1. Indicate which side is up with arrows and writing. They will usually respect that. Do a jeep “If you can read this please flip me” for extra points.
2. Golf club heads might be the most important but least protected part of the whole setup. Pad, immobilize, then pad again. Something plastic like an old beach pail for rigidity around the bunch. They can’t be stronger than a drop, but that will give them a chance.
My bet is that your bag was relatively empty with the weight on the “bottom” (IRL top) and/or the guy dropping it off would have wasted time in his mind trying to orient it some other way, or laying it on the ground.
I used a similar service to ship a carbon frame bicycle. Even the slightest weight stacked the wrong way would have totaled it, and the box I was using didn’t have a lot of room for spare protection. It made it home no problem with the steps above. Best of luck for next time.
