This is Rick Shield. I nearly hit him. I hate these shots. Today, I’ll be helping him fix his spinny chip shot. That’s awesome. That stops so quick. Spin like I’ve never seen before. Um, Pulse, I I hate these shots. Why? This is like my worst nightmare. I I just find shots that are very challenging when you’ve got to go up hills, elevation changes of different types of grass and different grains, not got a lot of green to work with. Like I’m instantly, you might laugh at this, I am instantly grabbing my putter. You’d pack this 100% would put it. But I could stand here now and if you gave me 10 shots, I could quite easily hit two within a couple of feet, right? And they look like proper golf shots. But it won’t surprise me if I hit some that don’t go up the hill. I’ll thin a few long where if you gave me 10 puts from here, I’m going to get it on the green every time. Yeah. You’re playing a numbers game. So, you think you can putt 10 balls inside an area or you’ll probably two putt a a high percentage of these as opposed to getting up and down. Yeah. It amazes me how how a golfer that is arguably a great golfer fears a shot that actually should be relatively simple. It’s frustrating. I don’t want to hit a put, but it’s like you say, it’s it’s either scar tissue, it’s a bit of not having confidence in my technique. So, I’ve been what I’ve been trying to do a lot more is grab my 56. I don’t particularly grab 60 all the time. Okay. So, you in my head already, this is a shot you need maximum spin. Okay. You need maximum flight, right? And and you’ve already first of all defaulted to the club that’s not going to give you that. I’ve tried to become really in love with one club around the green. Okay? You know, instead of having lots of options, almost going, that’s the club you love. Go with that one a lot. You need a bit of an archive. You need to be able to have every single shot in the bag. You need a toolbox, don’t you? Right. Let’s hit the shot. So, little bit of open face, nice and wide. Right. You flared it because I don’t think you’re you’re using any wrist release which you I think you need a little bit. Sevie the best chipper on the planet. Nice. Always had a nice bit of release cuz I think you know you need to use a lobber. Okay. You don’t like the lobber. Right. Come here baby. Love you again. And the first thing listen dirty grooves. Like I can’t I can’t deal with dirty dirty grooves. Right. You’re taking off spin. So, I don’t always do it myself. Your clubs are ren they’re filthy dirty. Right. Clean grooves. I normally get new ones before I clean them. Right. So, 60°. Let me try and change a few things as you go. I think the ball position’s too far forward. Okay. Right. Which I think is causing that arc to then slightly come on the up. So, I’m going to want as you take that club back, give me a little bit of hinge to here. And from there, I want you to sort of turn down, maintain the loft into the impact position. And this comes up, right? And it almost sits itself back down into the pocket. Right? I want you to feel like a sensation of like bruising. You can use loads of energy into the grass, but you’re not taking a divot. Right. So, a lot of See, that’s nice. Yeah. six or seven shots there and not it’s been bruised, but there’s no divot. There’s zero divot there. So, with as the ball position comes back in your stance a bit, you’re going to actually it’s going to come out lower. Yeah. And that’s why you’ve added the loft on the face. Don’t be afraid to leave one short. Nice. I mean, it feels grabbing. It’s got tons and tons and tons and tons of spin. You You tell me where you think you want to land it. 8 foot short. So, you’re saying here? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, that actually looks too close to the pin. Maybe 10 foot. Yeah. Right. So, I’m I I don’t mind I don’t mind there. Which you may turn around and go, “Oh, but if I land it there, it’s going to come all the way back.” Providing it’s come on the right flight, so it’s low enough. Right. In my mind, the speed that it’s coming in with loads of spin, it’s okay to use from here to here. I think that’s okay to use. That That’s awesome. That stops so quick. No, that’s awesome. It feels a short swing. Okay, your little keys are short. Little bit of cupping. Yeah, you keep that, but then you pocket. You release a bit of that into the ball. And we’re gonna cup and drop it into the pocket. Nice. Right. So, okay. It’s close. That’s pitched 6 ft past your landing spot. Yeah. And it’s not It’s not disaster. It’s left you 12 ft the other side. But you don’t need to use that extra power because on that longer swing because I’m using more loft anyway. Correct. I would say if you work on that enough, right, that should actually be default your bad shot there. Do the worst. Yeah. Okay. What was going through your head with that shot? Cuz that’s I felt short then, really short. And I felt then because I was short, I had to drive it. There was extra leg action there for no reason. Felt like I was going to chip it five yards in front of me. Okay. weak left hand. We got a good ball position and you want to feel like you compress that ball with the grooves on the face. I mean, spin. Look how much spin that had. Knowing how much spin you can now impart on the ball, do exactly what you’ve just done there and try and land it like 3 feet short the pin because I think that’s just given you so much more extra spin. He goes back a little bit. That’s it. Perfect. We got a weaker left hand. Short back swing. Little bit of energy. See, you’re stopping that within 18 in. Wild. Do that. Do that again. See here? That’s Oh, yeah. Yeah. Jeez. Can’t get there. You know what though? Interestingly, that’s the position I’m trying to get in in my full swing. Is it? cuz I’m all You You’re going You’re going to DJ on me there. I’m good with that. I mean, like it’s come up short, but that has got again so much rip spin. That nearly came back. That spin net was incredible. Spin like I’ve never seen before. All of a sudden, you’ve picked up, you know, a th00and 2,000 more RPMs of of spin. Okay. Now, that that in my opinion is a default miss. If that was my default miss, I’d be over the moon. No, but it’s a default miss cuz I think the ball’s run up the face there. Nice. Again, the more you practice that, the more the more spin I think that’s that’s going to give you, which then therefore is going to lead to a bit more confidence. I think we need to put some pressure on this. Five shots. If I don’t get one within gimme range, I’ve got to do 10 press ups in this heat. You’ve given me all the information now, Ian. It’s down to me. Lovely. Just bit too much energy. Not far off. Tell you what, I like the strike on that one, though. Strike was pure. Really nice strike. So much spin. So much sauce on that. I actually missed that little slot. Literally so much sauce. Just pick this one out the hole for me, please. Come on then. I nearly hit him. Right, you got two more. Don’t want to be doing any press ups. I want you landing literally right there. I tell you what, that there, Rick, was a fraction left. That was all. That’s one. Right. Come on. Bin it for us. Let’s see it. Oh, look at the spin on it. I tell you what, they’re a lot better. That’s a gimme. Okay, thank you. those last five I am thinking about actually I wasn’t thinking about techniques so much thinking about actually how close can I hit this to the hole which is good thanks pal hey listen how shall I work on that anytime thank

What Emoji Best Describes YOUR Short Game? 👀
Like a Dan Grieve release 2/3 basically it seems
Brilliant video. Ian you also have a future in coaching!
Spin on those shots is impressive, time to ditch the Texas wedge!
💩… I’d give my left nut to hang with Ian and get a lesson like this
You can't fix stupid….😏😏😌
Love Poults – he is a genius around the green
Poults is great!! Thanks a lot…more of these…
Give him a month and he will be titting about again
How many people have fixed his chip shots!
Sorry, but a pathetic effort for viewers.
How can a guy call himself a golf coach if he can’t chip himself!
This would be your greatest achievement in golf 😂
What a great video ian !! Really enjoyed it and off to practice green in the morning, take care postie !!😂
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😎
Didn’t you get Dan Hargrieve to teach you ?
You're flogging a dead horse here Poults!
Rick NEVER learns. He's had lessons off the best coaches in the world and returns to type every single time.
ETERNAL HACKER. Worst golfer in the planet. I dont like rick shiels. he should go away.
Rick can’t be helped, give him his putter back
Can’t force a horse to drink water, let him use his flatstick
Thats a premium shot that I would love to have !
I ‘attempt’ to fix
And saved… Will be practicing this tomorrow! I love my 54 for floating them in to greens and have got that down but for little tight ones I want to stop I just try to float my 58 in and hope it doesn't run as far.
Love Ian. Class guy. I just wish he stayed with the PGA. I get it…he was doing what was best for him and his family.
Seve would have chipped with the 56
We can’t use this title forever with Rick 😂
Love these two when they collab. Great stuff Ian and Rick. It should be required by YouTube that you do at LEAST 1 collab per month.
He is literally teaching you dan grieves release 3 which you've learnt 3 or 4 times with him and then go back to putting anyway.
I can't believe players at this level don't clean their clubs! That's downright flippin' neglect. Perhaps no flossing or bog roll either? Come on!?!??
Ian is an absolute Postman. What a great shot of advice with flipping wrist action!
Always thought of the Ryder Cup when I think of Ian…If Rick can now chip with a lob wedge this took the top career achievement spot for Poultz
Rick has no feel or touch. Not much of a golfer with all the help he has gotten.
Dan’s lesson no good for you Rick? 😉
Anybody that imitates DJ is crazy.. his got the flexibility of a pool noodle the man is alien
No you didn’t. He went to Dan Grieve. Twice. Yet still has the worst short game on YouTube. It’s in one ear and out the other, he’ll be back to doing his usual nonsense in no time.
Have a mate shag balls so you don't have to hunt for all the shots that rocketed across the green
Rick got that LIV bag then got fat
When I was a kid every night after school in my Dad's back garden 10L paint bucket and 100 balls and my Barbara Romack Sand Iron.. Had to chip them all in Start from about 25-30 feet ( my dad's garden was quite big) and if you miss you play it from where it lies. After doing it for months it's surprizing how many you can drop straight in from that range. As you get better there's less variety of distance the all end up pretty close to the bucket
When the ball is 3 inches from the Bucket and the bucket in 18" high You need balls of steel to open the face and put a 20 yard swing on it knowing that if you thin it, it's the kitchen window gone or it worse it rebounds off the wall straight into the old man's green house.
A descending blow outside to in with a slight wrist flick after impact see's the ball literally jump straight up 2-3 feet in the air and into the bucket. The more you play these shots the more comfortable you become with that club.
I had a half set of clubs and a ladies sand iron.
That club was my 65,50,40,30,20,10,5 yard club
Must've been filmed a while back as Rick is still very round around the edges… 😅✌
Poults is AWSOME, really….
“i shall work on that” Rick knowing damn well he isn’t going to work on that 😂😂
I think the key move of creating the spin is to release while brushing the grass but not hold the face while brushing the grass.
How is this guy a golf influencer if he can’t figure out the basic chip shot?!
Pulter went to Liv, that is good for him, plus I never have to see his ugly face again.
"Normally get new ones before I clean em" just WOW.
Nothing can fix this man. He is perfect. You get away from him
how does this work for a green that is sloping away? will it still spin?
