So, here are the top five driver mistakes I see students make time and time again, costing you up to 50 yards, can’t hit your driver, no consistency, no distance, this is the video for you. So, we’ll cover number one really quickly, but it’s so so important. It’s grip. How are you holding the golf club? The driver is the fastest swing. So, if we swing really fast and the club face isn’t in control, then we are going to see some horrible curvature on our driver. Swinging slow is not the fix. getting better club face control is. So the two biggest mistakes with grip, someone who slices a ball tends to have a weak grip. So they’re too far to the left. So by making this stronger and ideally seeing two knuckles, maybe a third in the left hand and making sure the palm faces the target, it’s not too far on top. That generally is the fix that helps the slices. So again, a slicer’s grip would be more like this. Pal on top, weak left hand. So, we want to fix that there. Your typical golfer who hooks the ball and sees too much overdraw would probably have a right hand that’s really far underneath. So, the palm is under the grip rather than the side of the grip. So, again, in the fingers, palm on the side tends to fix those guys who are hooking the ball with a really closed face. So, have a good grip that’s going to move you away from your bad shot and improve that club face. Having a poor grip is huge and it cost you your club face control. It costs you distance. It can cost you so many yards off a tea as well as so many missed fairways. So a good grip is fundamental. Tip number two, have a phenomenal setup. Get yourself a simple routine that you can do out on the golf course. Common mistake with drivers to actually get the ball too far forward in the stance. So if you’ve got the ball too far forward, what would you tend to see? The chest is going to point towards the golf ball. the body is going to point too far to the left. And as you can see in this video here, when that starts to happen, you can start to swing over the top. You can start to mis hit it, miss the middle of the face, and generally start to hit down and lose quite a bit of distance. So that driver setup that you’re struggling with, not sure if you’re aiming properly, not sure if the ball positions in the right place, this is literally as simple as it can get. So, what I want you to do, set yourself up to the golf ball. Feet together, left foot out, right foot out, right hand on the back of your right leg, not the side of your leg, the back of it, which stops you opening the shoulders up, and slide it down to the bottom of your pocket. That’s enough to get enough tilt and get the head and the chest behind the ball. And the fact it’s on the back of the leg stops you getting really open, stops you tilting towards the target, stops you setting up like that seven iron, which is just going to come crashing down to the ball with no distance. So you need to do this next time you play. Set up. Small step, big step. Hand just behind the pocket. Slide it down under the pocket and grip. Good to go. Great setup. Good ball position. Good body alignment. Not here. And we have the correct tilt. Honestly, the simplest hack for a really good setup that you can take out on the course. Number three, getting the right angle of attack is so important to get as much distance as possible. If you’re someone who is hitting down on this golf ball, if that club head’s traveling down, you’re already giving up distance. Yes, the tour players might be doing that, but they swing so fast. They’re trying to do that for extra control. But generally speaking, what we want to try and do, we want about half the golf ball above the club head. And then make sure you don’t make this killer move, which is the kiss of death with driver. So you’re probably wondering what that kiss of death move is with driver. And that is golfers who move their head ahead of the golf ball. Soon as you do that, wave goodbye to your longest drives. They’re just not going to happen. What we need with the driver in order to get that angle of attack on the way up, we want that slightly upward angle. We need to keep the head and the chest, the upper centers behind the golf ball. So, a really simple thought, if we imagine that there was a huge, imagine there’s a line or something just coming directly up from the golf ball and we want to keep the left ear behind the ball all the way until impact almost. Imagine that you’re going to give someone an uppercut. We’re going this way. You wouldn’t punch someone like this. That wouldn’t be an uppercut. So this movement here, head back, this movement here, which is going to help you get that angle of attack. So left ear behind the golf ball at all times. Do not lean ahead of it. That uppercut motion, head behind the golf ball. Watch yourself hit up on it. More height, more carry, more distance. Tip number four, do not slow your swing down. Most golfers take the club back way too slowly and then try and speed up in the down swing. What does that cause? If you swing back slowly and then really try and speed up, you’re just going to spin your body. You’re going to spin your body far too quickly, sending the club out, sending the club down. Not optimal for driver. What I want you to do is speed things up going back. The body’s the engine. We want to use that more. That’s going to create more body turn, more coil, which for driver is what we can see in so many good drivers of the golf ball. The better we coil up with the body, generally the better the driver you’re going to be. So, let’s put an end to slow and spin. Look at that. That’s just got a big nasty slice on it. Hit down. That’s what we see a lot of amateurs that are losing distance do. Let’s get a faster swing with more body turn, more coil, more speed in the back swing so we don’t have to spin out. Let’s get rid of that spin out motion. Coil up bit quicker in the back swing. Take it away a bit quicker. Bodies the engine and we’ve just bombed that down the middle. If you find that your ball’s not going straight enough, it’s not a speed issue, it’s probably a club face issue. A lot of golfers slow down to not slice it as much. Don’t do that. Fix the club face. Then you can swing a bit faster. Don’t be one of those golfers just taking it easy to fix the slice. Fix the root cause. And number five, address the ball properly. And what do I mean by that? If you’re someone who rests their driver on the ground and the ball’s teed up, you need to favor the toe side of the club. If you’re someone who rests their driver on the ground when you tee up the ball and you don’t hover, you need to favor the toe slightly. The reason for that is the club head also as you’re swinging up the club head moves into a slightly different position. And if you rest the club on the floor and line the ball out the middle, you are more likely to heal it. So just favor the toe slightly. But if you hover the club, then you can get it out the center of the face. So just be careful. Make sure that ball alignment matches what you do with your driver. And putting all those things into practice, watch your driver completely change. So give all those things a try. Turn your driver from a weakness to a strength. Add more distance. make life easy and have simple routines that you can take out on the golf course.
