Simple feel to help golfers learn how to lower the arms from the top of the downswing. Often players try to open their shoulders too quickly in transition. This can cause the shaft to steepen. This drill, often called “Justin Rose Drill” will help you feel the proper transition.

Simply get to the top of your backswing, keeping your shoulders closed, and lower your arms. Some players may need to feel the right arm straightening to help creat this feel.

by far one of the biggest issues I see coaching golf lessons on a day-to-day basis is players getting too steep in transition or coming too far over the top great example is that they get to the top of the back swing and from here we start trying to turn the body open very aggressively the shaft steepens the hands move out often resulting in the club swinging way too far to the left and a lot of slicing shots especially with the driver a great way to fix that is often referred to as the Justin Rose drill there’s a lot of videos out there of Justin Rose explaining what his feel is from the top of the Swing where he’s really trying to keep his back to the Target and lower his arms the way we lower the arms is actually by feeling like we’re straightening that right arm you can see as I get to the top the way I can keep my shoulders closed and get the club to lower is by feeling like I’m straightening that right arm it helps me maintain a lot of width in the downswing it helps keep the club behind my hands and helps move the hands more forward at impact so this is going to help shift the path to the right while also moving the low Point more forward so again get to the top of the Swing keep feel like your shoulders stay closed or you can even feel like the shoulder stays down pointed at the ground and then from here we’re just going to lower the arms what I would do is I would do rehearsals like that kind of over and over again so we get to the top kind of lower the arms and then do kind of slow practice Swings with the same feel creating the same sensation of the club moving in this direction the more you can do that the more that club’s going to start shifting to the right I know this is a little ere exaggerated but if I add any speed to this you’ll see see the the body will start to automatically turn more open so try that feel with some rehearsal motions some slow practice swings and then eventually when you’re ready for it you can add the golf ball

  1. this feeling of dropping the club behind me has helped my iron strikes tremendously !!! Questions: 1# , should I begin to rotate my lower body the same time as I start dropping the club…2# , should I swing out to right field, as I sometimes now straight pull the ball to left field ….thanks

  2. Nice video. Am I right in saying pressure down from lead foot and arms coming down have to sync?

  3. Harvey Penick's "Magic Move," bring the right elbow to the right hip. Or the left elbow for lefties ….
