Conor Purcell has signed a multi-year deal with Under Armour Golf and the Portmarnock golfer will now be leaning heavily on the innovation, performance and custom-fit benefits of the brand’s showpiece Drive Pro shoe to help with stability through the golf swing.

Purcell, who will wear Under Armour apparel and footwear as part of the partnership, joins the brand on the back of some encouraging performances in 2025. After finishing tied 15th at the Volvo China Open in April he fired a final-round 65 at the Hainan Classic a week later to record back-to-back top-20 finishes.

Earlier this year, Purcell attended the Under Armour Golf Performance Centre at Stoke Park in Buckinghamshire, where he undertook the Footwear Optimisation Process to identify the most effective shoe fitting for his game.

The Dubliner – who has endured injury problems surrounding a hip issue – had originally worn Under Armour’s popular Drive Fade shoe. But after the fitting process, he was switched into the performance-based UA Drive Pro Spikeless. The custom insoles, which immediately reduced the ongoing strain on his hip, are specifically designed to enhance performance and comfort for athletes by providing superior shock absorption, arch support and stability.

“For every golfer, stability is key,” Purcell said. “If you use the ground correctly, you can just hit the ball further.”

Under Armour continues to build an exciting stable of talented young players from across the EMEA region with the potential to succeed on the biggest stage. The roster of talent already includes DP World Tour star and Ryder Cup hopeful Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen as well as Surrey teenager, Kris Kim, who, at last year’s CJ Cup Byron Nelson, became the youngest European player to make the cut on the PGA Tour.

“Joining Under Armour makes me feel like part of an athlete family, with so many different sports and so many different types of people,” said Purcell, who will be teeing it up on home soil at the Amgen Irish Open at The K Club in September. “It is cool to be considered an Under Armour athlete.”

Joey Purcell, Conor’s father and former Head Professional at Portmarnock Golf Club also has close links to Under Armour, and the brand has followed Conor’s career closely from the junior and regional ranks through to playing on the professional tours.

Under Armour has consistently demonstrated measurable gains in clubhead speed, ball speed and carry distance, making the Drive Pro a game-changing choice of footwear on the golf course since launching to critical acclaim in 2024.

At the core of this innovation is the Swing Support System, a revolutionary three-layer structure developed with world-renowned biomechanist JJ Rivet. This science-backed design ensures a 360-degree foot lockdown, optimising both lateral and medial stability. Meanwhile, UA HOVR™ foam and Charged Cushioning™ enhance responsiveness and provide essential support, guiding the foot’s natural motion throughout the golf swing for increased power and control.

Already a go-to choice for top athletes worldwide, the Drive Pro Series is making an impact across all the major professional tours. On the PGA Tour, Jordan Spieth and Maverick McNealy trust the Drive Pro, with McNealy securing his first PGA Tour victory at the RSM Classic and earning three top-10 finishes in early 2025 as he moved into the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking.
