Matt Fitzpatrick has emerged as one of the very best golfers from the UK and is also a Major champion after victory at the 2022 US Open.
Not only did the Englishman triumph at Brookline after winning the 2013 US Amateur Championship at the same venue, but he has built a fantastic resume around his Major win. Here, we get to know him better with these 25 facts…

1. Matthew Thomas Fitzpatrick was born 1st September 1994 in Sheffield, England.
2. He is a huge Sheffield United fan and was seen handing out the club’s shirt at the Phoenix Open in 2022.
3. Fitzpatrick rose up the ranks of the amateur game very quickly, becoming the World No.1 amateur in 2013 and 2014. He held the honour for a total of 21 weeks.
4. After getting to the number one spot, he attended Northwestern University in Chicago to play for their golf team, the Wildcats. He left after just one semester.
5. He won the low amateur honors at The 2013 Open Championship at Muirfield.
6. He turned professional after the 2014 US Open, where he was the only amateur from 11 players to make the halfway cut. He finished at 11-over-par for the four rounds at Pinehurst No.2.
7. His handicap was +4 at the time of turning professional.

8. Fitzpatrick’s first professional win came at the 2015 British Masters. Afterwards, he acknowledged that a new car might be on the horizon after several fellow professionals ripped into him for driving a Ford Mondeo.
Speaking to reporters at the time about his dream car, he said: “It’s an Ascari A10 but my dad won’t let me spend it all on that.”
9. In 2018, he became the first player since Seve Ballesteros to successfully defend an Omega European Masters title. That victory, at the age of 23, meant he surpassed Nick Faldo as the youngest Englishman to win five times on the European Tour.

10. He has made four appearances in the Ryder Cup, and has been on the winning team twice, in 2023 and 2025.
11. His best world ranking to date is 3rd.
12. His 2022 US Open victory at Brookline meant that he joined Jack Nicklaus as the second man to win a US Open and US Amateur at the same venue.
13. On Boxing Day 2026, he took the US Open trophy to Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane stadium for their match against Coventry City.

14. He is mainly an equipment free agent. Matt Fitzpatrick’s clubs are made by a range of different brands. He does have a deal with Bettinardi to use the brand’s putters and Titleist to use the company’s ball, though.
15. He made a hole-in-one during a practice round for the 2022 WM Phoenix Open and also at the 2023 US Open.
16. He claimed his second win on the PGA Tour at the 2023 RBC Heritage, beating Jordan Spieth in a playoff with a birdie on the third extra hole.
17. Three more PGA Tour wins followed in 2026 – the Valspar Championship, his second RBC Heritage title and the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
18. The last of those wins was in a team with his brother, Alex. The victory meant his younger brother joined Matt on the PGA Tour.
19. The title also meant that he and Alex became the first pair of brothers to win on the PGA Tour.

20. At the 2023 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, he created a little piece of history alongside his mum, Susan.
As well as winning the individual event for his ninth DP World Tour title, he and Susan also won the team event that was run alongside it to become the first family winners of both.
21. He beat Rory McIlroy at the 2025 DP World Tour Championship to claim the title for the third time. It was his 10th DP World Tour win overall.
22. He spends his time between Jupiter, Florida and Sheffield, England.
23. His home club in Florida is The Dye Preserve, while his home club in England is The Hallamshire.
24. Fitzpatrick has almost $45m on the PGA Tour.
25. He has taken notes of every shot he has taken since the age of 15.
