CROMWELL — The Travelers Championship once again showed it is the gift that keeps on giving to state charities.
The 2026 Signature Event, won by Viktor Hovland, generated more than $5 million that will be distributed to 290 charities, record-setting highs for both categories. The numbers were revealed on Thursday at the tournament’s annual Charity Celebration at the TPC River Highlands.
“Caring for our communities is a fundamental value for Travelers and we couldn’t be happier to see this record level of support,” said Andy Bessette, Travelers vice president and chief administrative officer. “This year’s tournament was incredibly special, and we have even bigger plans for the future.
Hovland, who claimed a winner’s share of $3.6 million from the $20 million purse, recorded a video message that was played during the event.
“Wanted to congratulate everyone for raising over $5 million (for) charity,” Hovland said. “I’m very honored to be the Travelers champion. It’s a very special tournament to me, as I made my pro debut there. Can’t wait to be there again.”
According to Travelers, since 2007, the year that the company become the title sponsor, more than $40 million has been donated to more than a thousand regional nonprofits.
“The heartbeat of the Travelers has always been partnering with local charities and providing them with funding and a platform to spread their message,” longtime tournament director Nathan Grube said.
In 2027, the Travelers will remain a Signature Event set for June 24-27 at River Highlands. Beginning in 2028, as the PGA Tour rolls out its new schedule format, the tournament will become part of the Championship Series and maintain its June date as a top-tier event.
