The Presidents Cup is clearly missing something.
It’s a lopsided affair that is often over before it even begins. Looking at this year’s American team compared to the International team, this event at Medinah really should be a no-contest. Team USA has eight of the highest-ranked players.
In the men’s game, the International team simply doesn’t have the talent to compete with the Americans. But in the women’s game it’s a totally different story. They would be the strong favourites at the women’s Presidents Cup if it were ever created.
With that in mind, some of the biggest stars in the men’s game shared their opinion on whether they would like to see a women’s version of the event created.
Wyndham Clark and Xander Schauffele say they want to see a women’s Presidents Cup
The idea of introducing a women’s Presidents Cup was raised with some of the men’s players competing this week, including U.S. Open winner Wyndham Clark and two-time major winner Xander Schauffele.
Clark responded, “That would be great. Honestly, it probably should happen because the women’s game is so international. Yeah, I think that would be fantastic. We have it, the Solheim Cup and the Ryder Cup, so we might as well do an international one.”
When shown what the potential international roster could look like at the Presidents Cup, Schauffele said, “Yeah. That’s a stacked team. Yeah. I mean, honestly, yeah, anything to grow the game of golf, you know what I mean. I think it would be a no-brainer.

“I think sponsors would get behind it, and I’m sure there’s more logistics to an event than me just saying, you know, sure. But I think it would be pretty cool to have it on both the men’s and women’s.”
This was also put to Australian Min Woo Lee, whose sister, Minjee, would be a sure bet to play on the International team. He was asked if he’d like to see a mixed event with the men and women in the future.

Lee said, “I would love that. Obviously my sister plays golf, so it would be nice to have her on the team and me on the team. But I think it would be very fun.
“It would make it interesting, for sure. Obviously there’s things that have to be measured with the girls and the guys. But even just the best ball, like mixed best ball, mixed foursome would be unbelievable. That would be so fun.
“Yeah, I wish — hopefully in the future.”
One thing is for certain: something needs to change with this event, and turning it into a mixed event would make it unique, forward-thinking, and more competitive. It’s time for the PGA Tour to be bold and make a call like this.
