Canadians tie for third at Bermuda Championship after final round cancelled

Canada’s Corey Conners and Ben Silverman will not have a chance to go for the title at the Bermuda Championship.

The PGA Tour cancelled Sunday’s final round due to heavy winds and then announced that the results after 54 holes would be final later in the day because conditions are not favourable for Monday.

Austin Smotherman and Seamus Power, who are tied for the lead, are scheduled to play a playoff Monday morning if the weather co-operates to determine a winner. They finished at 16 under.

Conners, from Listowel, Ont., and Silverman, from Thornhill, Ont., and American Taylor Moore were two back of the co-leaders after 54 holes.

Adam Hadwin of Abbotsford, B.C., tied for 17th; A.J. Ewart of Coquitlam, B.C., and Mackenzie Hughes of Hamilton, Ont., tied for 25th; and Adam Svensson of Surrey, B.C., tied for 59th.

Gusts topped 65 km/h in the morning,

The most recent Monday finish on the PGA Tour was at the Travelers Championship in June, when Viktor Hovland defeated Scottie Scheffler. The last time a PGA Tour event was reduced to 54 holes was the 2024 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, which ended on a Saturday.

Smotherman and Power are entered in the Mexico Open next week in Vallarta, Mexico, and a charter plane was due to take other players in the field.

Power is just outside the top 100 in the FedEx Cup Fall, and a victory would not only lock up his card through 2028 but put him in the elite Championship Series in the new 2028 schedule. Smotherman won his first PGA Tour title in Utah earlier this month. Another victory would earn him a spot in the U.S. Open.

Conners moved up to 55th from 66th in the FedEx Cup standings, while Silverman jumped to 117th from 143rd.

The top 100 after the final four fall events have PGA Tour eligibility for 2027.
