Who would trade in Pebble Beach for Indianapolis?
Jim Nantz almost did.
The longtime CBS announcer lived along the California coast — with endless world-class golf courses close by — for about 10 years. At some point, he decided he needed a change to accommodate his work schedule.
“The commute (to events) crushed me. I was going across the country 40 weeks a year,” he said on the “Pat McAfee Show.” “So now I needed a new place to plant, and I had Indy on my final three. I really love Indy.”
Nantz noted that he announced numerous Final Fours, Indianapolis Colts games, PGA events and the Pan American Games in Central Indiana. “I’ve covered more of a variety of events in Indy than in any other city in the country,” he said.

He ultimately chose Nashville for his new home.
“Close call. I love this city. Music City’s awesome, but I have a special place in my heart for Indianapolis,” Nantz said. “I know that city so well, I could have lived there.”
Maybe he would have told his neighbors, “Hello, friends,” as left his Indy home each morning.
