Anirban Lahiri has suggested that he would like to see LIV Golf continue beyond this season, but stopped short of confirming whether he plans to remain with the league next year.

While Lahiri is far from the biggest star on LIV, there is a good reason why some will be intrigued to see what he decides about his future with the league.

Lahiri is part of Bryson DeChambeau’s Crushers team. They are one of two teams on LIV that have remained unchanged since the start of the 2023 season.

DeChambeau has been LIV‘s most notable cheerleader publicly. So it would be significant if members of his team decided that they were going to walk away following the league’s decision to file for bankruptcy in September.

Perhaps it would be a sign that they do not share DeChambeau’s vision for LIV 2.0. Or it could even mean that they are confident that the two-time US Open champion could decide to move on also.

When asked about his LIV future ahead of this week’s DP World India Championship, Lahiri insisted that he is still weighing up his options.

“The situation is very dynamic. A lot of things going on. It’s hard for me to comment on it, also because, you know, it’s a matter of seeing how the processes work out,” he said.

“As for me, I’m just focusing on playing this week. I’m here for the DP World Tour India Championship. I’m excited how I play this week. I think my focus and energies are going to be in the here and now and next week I’m playing in Hong Kong and then I do have the Philippines Open on my schedule, by which time I think we will know.

Who will win the four majors in 2027?

We are already dreaming about Thursday at Augusta National!

“I think my only message to everyone who is going to have questions regarding this is you have been patient so far. Just give it another month, month and a half, and everyone will know exactly what’s happening one way or the other.

“So, yeah, that’s all I would like to say on that. LIV has been great for me and I’ve enjoyed it. Would I like for it to continue? Why not. But we don’t have a crystal ball so let’s see where it goes.”

“There are a lot of things happening which I’m not privy to share. Like I said, I’m going to make my decision when my options are in front of me, and the decisions will be based on what I believe is in the best interest of my family and myself,” he added.

“I’ve had the time of my life the last four years. It’s been fantastic. At the end of the day I’m a professional golfer. I intend to continue to do what I do at the highest level possible to the best of my ability. Whatever option allows me to balance that with where I find myself in my life is what I’m going to do.”

What Lahiri said earlier this year about players wanting to leave LIV Golf

The problem for those who are open to staying is that LIV is likely to look drastically different moving forward. Not only are the eye-watering resources a thing of the past, but it appears that many notable names are preparing to walk away.

Of course, there has been speculation about players wanting to leave for some time.

Interestingly, it was Lahiri who hit out at reports earlier this year suggesting that some on LIV were looking for an escape route.

“That is the biggest joke ever. I will not name names but I know at least a dozen players who’d rather not play golf than go back to the PGA Tour,” he said.

Admittedly, Lahiri may be correct about some players not wanting to return to the PGA Tour. Richard Bland and Cameron Tringale have confirmed that they plan to stay with LIV.

But given how different LIV was to the established tours, there was always going to be players who rued their decision to jump ship over the last five years.

Many of those players seemingly now have a perfect opportunity to move on.
