Kevin Kisner believes that Scottie Scheffler still needs to prove that he can inspire Team USA to a victory in either the Presidents Cup or the Ryder Cup following his latest FedEx Cup win.
Scheffler ensured that he would almost certainly be the Player of the Year on the PGA Tour by winning two of the three FedEx Cup playoff events, including the Tour Championship this past week.

It is remarkable to think that the 30-year-old was seemingly enduring an underwhelming year by his standards in 2026. He still finished the season with three wins and 13 top five finishes.
Scheffler’s worst finish in a major was tied for 14th. He finished inside the top five in the other three majors.

Obviously, Scheffler still needs to win the US Open to complete the Career Grand Slam. However, it is something else that Kevin Kisner has called on Scheffler to achieve.
Scheffler was outstanding on his Ryder Cup debut back in 2021, forming an excellent partnership with Bryson DeChambeau.
But he has been poor while representing Team USA in recent years, including at last year’s Ryder Cup when he lost his first four matches.
And speaking on the Fore Play Podcast, Kisner suggested that there is still a question mark over Scheffler as a talisman for his country.

“Earlier in the season, he switched to it [the new driver], right around The Players, and if you go back and look, he started spraying it. He was missing everything right with it. He was getting so frustrated, still probably finishing third every week,” he said.
“I was in the booth there for that run. We start around there in Florida, all the way to Texas. It was some of the worst driving, and I think he lost confidence in the new driver and set it down for the year. I don’t think he was swinging his best either, so I don’t think it was all the driver. Now he’s started to drive it really well, he’s put it in, gained some miles an hour. The sky’s the limit for him. There is no more limit for him. He’s already at the top. Where else do you go when you lead every stat and you’ve made $130 million and you win every FedEx Cup and you just beat everyone?
“What I want to see is him dominate a Presidents Cup or a Ryder Cup. The one thing I haven’t seen him absolutely do is take a team on his back and win it for them.”
How Scottie Scheffler has performed in the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup across his career
Scheffler was a contentious pick for the 2021 Ryder Cup. He featured in both fourball sessions alongside DeChambeau, winning 1.5 points over the first two days.
The high point came as he beat Jon Rahm in the Sunday singles at Whistling Straits.
Despite being the world number one by the time the Presidents Cup came around the following year, no American contributed fewer points at Quail Hollow. He lost three of his four matches.
It was a similar story at the 2023 Ryder Cup, with Scheffler failing to win any of his four matches. He was also on the receiving end of a record defeat at the hands of Ludvig Aberg and Viktor Hovland.
The 2024 Presidents Cup was better, with Scheffler delivering three points. It did appear that he had also found an ideal partner in Russell Henley.
Unfortunately, the pair had a miserable time at Bethpage last September. Scheffler’s only point came against an exhausted Rory McIlroy in the Sunday singles.
So Brandt Snedeker will have plenty to think about when it comes to Scheffler ahead of this month’s Presidents Cup at Medinah.
