Scottie Scheffler has responded to Pat McAfee’s explicit Ryder Cup plea, with the world No. 1 offering a lighthearted reaction to the sports host’s request.
McAfee delivered a passionate message to Scheffler ahead of the BMW Championship. Scheffler appeared on The Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday, where the energetic host thanked the world’s top-ranked golfer for everything he has done for the sport before making his request clear. “We need to f—— win the Ryder Cup,” McAfee said.
Scheffler laughed before offering a simple response to McAfee’s request. “Yep, you’re preaching to the choir, man,” said Scheffler. The brief exchange highlighted the growing pressure on the United States Ryder Cup team.
Europe heads into the event as the defending champion after beating the U.S. at Bethpage Black in New York last year. The Europeans also won the previous Ryder Cup staged in Europe, defeating the Americans in Rome three years ago.
The U.S. last lifted the trophy at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin five years ago, while the team’s most recent victory on European soil came in 1993 at The Belfry in England.
Scheffler is likely to play a central role if the United States is to reclaim the Ryder Cup, having established himself as the world’s top-ranked golfer and one of the key figures on the American roster.

McAfee, a vocal supporter of Team USA across sports, made his plea with plenty of enthusiasm, while Scheffler’s brief response suggested he is well aware of the pressure surrounding the Americans.
The U.S. will be looking to end its recent Ryder Cup struggles and reclaim the trophy.
Jim Furyk will return as captain of the U.S. Ryder Cup team in 2027 when the competition heads to Ireland. The 55-year-old previously led the Americans in Paris in 2018, where Europe secured a dominant 17.5-10.5 victory.
Furyk will become just the fourth U.S. captain in the modern Ryder Cup era, which began in 1979, to lead the team on two occasions.
Scheffler has backed Furyk to succeed as United States Ryder Cup captain, with the world No. 1 making his support clear ahead of the Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral in April. He believes Furyk is well-suited to replace Keegan Bradley in the role.
“Yeah, Jim and Tabitha both are really, they’re great people,” said Scheffler. “Jim is a really, really good leader. He’s extremely organized in the way he does things. I think with Jim you just have so much experience across so many team events whether it’s playing or being a captain.
“The guy’s been on those teams for seems like for forever. He had such a long career out here and was so good for a long time that he played on a bunch and then he’s such a great guy that he’s been a captain and assistant captain on ’em as well.
“I think he brings a lot of knowledge and experience to the table. He has a way that he likes to do things and he’s very experienced and in that role and I think he’s going to do a great job.”
