Scottie Scheffler has been the best and most consistent golfer in the world for 175 consecutive weeks now.
Scheffler has won 22 PGA Tour titles since February 2022, including four major championships.
He also has two Hero World Challenge trophies and an Olympic gold medal to his name during that period of time.
However, Scottie Scheffler‘s performances for the United States at the Presidents Cup and the Ryder Cup have not been quite as impressive.
Not only does he not perform to his very best levels during team competition, but everyone he faces seems to raise their game.
Brandt Snedeker has urged Scottie Scheffler to be himself at the Presidents Cup this week.
If the world number one plays his best golf, he will be vital to the United States’ hopes of winning the Presidents Cup for the 14th time in just 16 meetings with the internationals.
However, it’s fair to say that Scheffler is under more pressure than most this week in Chicago.

Scheffler may well be under more pressure than any of his teammates at Medinah this week.

He is the best golfer in the world, by quite some margin, and it’s about time he shows it in team competition.
The 30-year-old Texan’s match-play record when representing the United States makes for seriously grim reading.
Scheffler has played nine matches at the Presidents Cup during his career to date, winning three of them, losing five and halving just one.
At the Ryder Cup, he has three wins, six losses and three halves to his name in 12 matches.
Those numbers are simply not good enough. His performances at the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup have not been befitting of the world number one golfer.

The golfing world will be watching Scheffler closely this week. He will be well aware that his country is depending on him to turn up at Medinah this week and perform.
As far as I’m concerned, nothing less than a 4-1-0 record will do for Scheffler this week, presuming that he plays all five matches.
The world’s best athletes usually produce their best form when they are being questioned or criticized. Now we will find out what Scottie Scheffler is really made of.
Scottie Scheffler’s Presidents Cup form will have Ryder Cup consequences
The other point to note here is that the United States will need Scheffler to be on top form at Adare Manor next year, if they are to have any chance at all of bringing the trophy back to American soil.
The last thing Scheffler needs is a poor week at Medinah 12 months prior to the showdown with the Europeans in Ireland.
That would just increase the pressure on him to perform at the Ryder Cup.
The best way for Scottie Scheffler to answer questions about his poor match-play record when representing the United States will be for him to go 5-0-0 this week.
It’s time for Scottie Scheffler to rise up and put his teammates on his back. The 30-year-old is the best golfer on the planet and he is their leader.
Now he has to show that he’s ready for that responsibility. Scheffler must remember that pressure is a privilege, and these are the moments he dreamed of as a young boy.
However, if he doesn’t perform this week at the Presidents Cup, the narrative surrounding him heading into the Ryder Cup next year will be an extremely negative one.
