Shane Lowry claimed a stunning Irish Open victory by 11 shots at Doonbeg, ending a four-year wait for a title, and the 39-year-old is now in London gearing up for the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth

Shane Lowry confessed he’s experienced “a mad few days” following his spectacular Irish Open triumph – but added his attention has already turned to DP World Tour event at Wentworth.
The Offaly native carded an impressive 23-under-par to claim an 11-stroke victory at Doonbeg, breaking a four-year individual title drought. He also did so with Donald Trump taking over the event in typical Trump fashion. However, it appears the post-tournament festivities may have been more draining for the 39-year-old than the competition itself.
Now in London ahead of this week’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, Lowry was questioned about whether he’d had a chance to absorb his Doonbeg success.
“Not really, to be honest,” Lowry admitted. “It’s been a mad few days. But I’m sure as time goes on, I will. Obviously I’m here at a big tournament this week and I want to kind of keep going and playing good golf.
“To win my National Open by 11 shots was incredible, to do it the way I did, everything about the whole week, the crowds, the afters there, it was an amazing week.
“I’ve been through a few little tough times this year. It’s been pretty good to do that.”
Footage captured Lowry making a pit stop at a West Clare pub following his Irish Open trophy presentation, and he disclosed it was one in the morning before arriving at Adare Manor in Limerick.
The Clara native traveled to Adare for practice sessions alongside some of Europe’s elite golfers in preparation for next year’s Ryder Cup at the same course.

He acknowledged feeling the aftereffects of the previous evening’s celebrations during his round at Adare.
“I was very tired on the course, but we had a good time. It was a worthwhile trip for the team, and I’m sure Luke and Dodo [Eduardo Molinari] got some good stuff out of it.
“I got to go home and see my parents and everyone in Offaly on Monday evening, so that was nice.
“I’ve had a nice few days. It’s been great. There’s been plenty of Mondays this year where I’ve not been in the best of form, so it’s nice to kind of be around the people you’re closest to and enjoy it as much as you can.”
Wentworth ranks among Lowry’s most beloved courses on the circuit, and it’s easy to see why. Beyond his 2022 win there, the Offaly man consistently delivers strong performances on the iconic Surrey layout.
He enthused: “This is my favourite tournament of the year. Love coming over here. Just love being here, the whole area.
“We get looked after so well. I think this is obviously our biggest tournament of the year, and the Tour do a great job with the tournament they put on here.
“So, it’s nice to be back, and hopefully I can continue some good golf.”
