Shane Lowry will be keen to follow up his win at the Irish Open last week with a strong showing this week at the BMW PGA Championship.
The BMW PGA Championship is the DP World Tour’s flagship event, and Lowry heads into the tournament as one of the favorites to win.
The 39-year-old Irishman blew away the field last week in Doonbeg and he will undoubtedly play with a real kind of freedom for the remainder of the year now.
Shane Lowry is a big fan of Wentworth as a golf course, so he will expect to contend this week at the BMW PGA Championship.
Lowry has received huge praise for his Irish Open win from many of his fellow pros, and he was a more than deserving winner. However, the nature of professional golf means that his win last week is already forgotten about and he’s right back at work at Wentworth.
Lowry spoke to reporters at Wentworth on Wednesday ahead of the start of the BMW PGA Championship on Thursday.
He was asked what he has made of the conditions at Wentworth this week.
“The course is fantastic, the greens are as pure and healthy as I’ve ever seen them,“ the Irishman said.
“With how warm it’s been this summer, they have done a great job getting them ready. Should be nice out there. I’m sure the atmosphere will be good. Looking forward to it.“
Lowry will be tired after his win in Ireland last week. He took part in a Team Europe Ryder Cup gathering at Adare Manor the day after his victory at Trump International Golf Links.
The 2019 Open champion’s accurate driving and precise iron play should serve him well at Wentworth this week. Much will depend on how well he putts. If he gets hot with the flat-stick, anything will be possible.
Whether Shane Lowry has the energy required to contend and, indeed, win at the BMW PGA Championship remains to be seen.
