This is our Taylormade Qi4D driver review.
I’m an avid golfer, 6ish handicap, on my way to a 2 (been a 5.6), and frequent tester of golf clubs and equipment since 2015.
Quick Take
The Qi4D driver is Taylormade’s easiest to hit non-”Max” driver I’ve tested since the Stealth 2.

Best For
I like the Qi4D for golfers who are at least a little competent off the tee. Though, I think you can adjust the weights and loft and lie settings to accommodate most any golfer.

The Verdict
I found the Qi4D surprisingly forgiving out of the box and more than long enough.
I’d go so far as to say it’s Taylormade’s best everyman driver since the Stealth 2.
They’ve gone back to the head shape I prefer – much more similar to the Stealth 2 and Qi10.It’s set up to be forgiving with the heavier weights in the rear and lighter weights front – toward the face. But, you can use their fitting chart to adjust weights and the adjustable hozel to do whatever you need to dial in more fairways.Sound and feel are superb.It’s got ALL the distance you need.
The Qi4D is definitely worth a look if you’re in the market to upgrade your driver.

Bag Appeal (4) Miles and miles of improvement over the Qi35. Better head shape. Better colors. Better sole graphics. Better.
Sound & Feel (4.5) I love it. Soft and solid with great feedback.
Forgiveness (4) Any kind of decent swing will get you decent or better results. Good swings with center of near-center contact yield explosive distance.
Distance (5) As stated above, this thing goes when you catch it and saves you nicely when you don’t.
Flight/Launch (4) I produced mostly mid to mid-high launch drives for me. But, that’s a function of how I deliver the club at impact.
What Makes the Taylormade Qi4D Driver Different?
The Qi4D can be set up for your swing.
The face does get a new roll radius, a reshaped top-to-bottom curve that TaylorMade says keeps spin more even between high and low strikes.
The bigger change is four moveable weights, two 9g and two 4g. (The 9g weights are in the rear and the 4g weights are forward behind the face, off the shelf.)
No other Qi4D driver has more than two. TaylorMade says putting both heavy weights forward lowers spin and maximizes distance, and other settings lean the head toward a fade or a draw.
The stock REAX shafts are also sorted by how fast you rotate the club through impact, not by flex alone.
None of that matters unless you get fitted or experiment with the weights. If you’ll leave them where they came, you’re paying for settings you won’t use.
My Experience with the Qi4D

The first thing I noticed when taking it out of the box was how much I preferred everything about the way it looks to the Qi35.
Much better head shape.Much better colors.Much better graphics
It’s just a LOT more pleasing to look at and I think it frames the ball much better and inspires more confidence…at least in me.
But, the bulk of my good work is done on the course. (Two to two and a half rounds with the Qi4D.)
The next thing I noticed was how good it felt and sounded. The exact feedback I look for in my driver. Solid and soft with a muted “thud.”
The next, next thing I noticed was this thing goes when you catch it. Really goes. And, it’s got enough built-in forgiveness off the shelf to save most marginal swings. (A specialty of mine.)
It gives you time to warm up and get into your round without punishing you with lost balls and penalty shots before you get there.
Bottom line: Maybe their best all round driver since the Stealth 2 linup.
Who Should Play the Taylormade Qi4D?
Taylormade says its best for golfers who want speed, adjustability, and forgiveness in one driver. I think it nailed it.
The Qi4D is meant for a wide variety of players.
Golfers chasing more speed and distance.Golfers who want more adjustability to dial in ball flight.Golfers looking for a mix of playability and forgiveness.
Low handicaps (Yes) What you can do with moving weights and adjusting the loft sleeve will have you salivating. Plus, it looks so darn good behind the ball. Not to mention, the sound and feel.
Mid handicaps (Yep) It’s definitely got something for you. By something, I mean everything.
High handicaps (Yep, you too) It’s not the most forgiving, but is is forgiving and you can have a fitter or pro help you play around with the weights and loft sleeve to get you set up right.
Potential Alterntatives
Ping G440 K – More forgiving. Less adjustable. Very long. Very easy to hit. You’d love it.
Ping G440 Max – Pretty much ditto what I said above about the G440 K.
Taylormade Qi4D Max – Played very similar to the Qi4D. But, is more forgiving.
