guys we are at the stadium golf Center in San Diego California did you know this is one of the top 10 best public driving ranges in America the problem is once you get to the driving range most people don’t know the secrets you must know to become the best golfer you can be in the shortest amount of time well today in this video I’m going to give you the top 10 secrets every golfer must know when you come to the driving range number one is this when you get here always put on the shoes you’re going to wear when you play or some type of golf shoe don’t just roll up in your tenes and go to practice you need you need one train your mind it’s it’s time it’s go time you don’t go to football practice and wear your sneakers you put on your cleats every practice you have specific shoes when you play golf you wear golf shoes when you practice you should wear your golf shoes every time you practice every time the difference these feel is worth at least a couple shots on the golf course so you need to be in syn with yourself so put on your game day shoes now we are ready to get good well not totally there’s nine more things to go and I might give you a free bonus one well it’s all free but there’ll be at least 10 this place is awesome all right I got my 80 balls but they let you top it off yourself so you can stack as many on there as you want come on tip number two always go to a range if you can I know it’s not always possible but make sure they have a short game area stadium has one it’s 8 bucks extra so it was $22 for the bucket plus my short game sleeve and they give me a little deal here to go in come on I mean I would drive I would drive an extra 30 40 minutes to a range that had a short game area just because this area of your game is the most critical it should be like 80% here 20% there most people do 100% range zero here and that’s why most people aren’t very good but you’re different than them you’re going to be fantastic because you’re going to do look 8020 is ideal but if you did 50 50% here versus hitting you would be better than 90% of the people on the planet so make sure you’re working this area of the game I’m shocked how many people don’t do this and I’m not talking about being in the bunker I’m talking about you get to the range or the short game area and you just go at it now if you’ve already done step two and you go to the short game era you’re you’re going to be ahead of the game so this is going to let’s say Skyrocket LaunchPad had your success in the game and that’s this you have to make sure every time you come to the practice facility you have a practice plan you’re football coach wrestling coach soccer whatever you played growing up you didn’t show up for practice and they just kind of winged it when you got there no if they did you lost every game but if they had a plan a strategy a tactic for winning that’s what they would Implement in the practice every day you need to do the exact same thing so what’s my strategy today what’s your strategy all right bunker shots for example bunker shot always just work short bunker shots short shots don’t hit the 40 50 yard shots you’re never going to have that if you do just get it on the green two that’s fine don’t be Bry and D Shambo but think about this say okay I’m going to spend 20 minutes in the bunker I’m going to work on my short chip shots 20 minutes I’m going to do long pit shots 20 minutes I’m going to hit wedges 20 minutes whatever it is for you that you need to work on have a plan of attack you don’t always have to hit your driver you don’t always have to hit your long irons you don’t always have to do everything but you just have to have a plan so that you can work on the areas of the game that you want to be good at great at that you have problems with and that you need Improvement in so every time you go you know exactly what it is you’re going to do and how long you’re going to do it based on that shot I would say I need 2 hours in the bunker but I like to spend a fair amount of time here cuz it just forces me to work on good F fundamentals move my body get my swing speed up and mostly in the bunker you want confidence so I like to spend at least a tube or two tubes right two tubes in the bunker for me personally that’s me you do you moving on oh and in case you’re wondering um all seven diamonds clothing Link in the video description below got a code down there for your usage so enjoy that also NEX belt here one size fits most they say these These are the best belts it’s all I wear NEX belt link below for that too code everything there’s a lot of codes a lot of links a lot of codes all for you do my best to get you a good deal but check it out number four is this every single time you practice I want you putting and the key to this is make sure we talked about earlier you have a plan of attack for your putting are you working three Footers sixf Footers 10f Footers lag putting whatever it is I like to do short ones like four five six Footers and then uh lag putts too and I spend like 15 minutes 15 minutes or 10 and 10 on both that’s kind of my standard procedure cuz I want to make 10 foot or I want to make all the short ones and I want all the long ones close the better you get the more you can add always too bonus tip here is never use range balls when you’re putting use your game balls golf is highly about feel so you have to be able to feel your balls golfing you got you got to know what it feels like you don’t want to the range balls don’t help you I’m going to give you a little trick here for free it’s not part of the deal every time I make a putt you’re going to see me do something and it’s just instinctual now and what I’m doing is this psychological trick trigger is when I make it I I tap the putter on the ground you’ll see me do it I’ll just tap it like that so I’m triggering myself that that’s a positive reinforcement or a reinforcement that I did something good and it just conditioned your body to repeat that motion there it is and I just see that little tap and then when I set up to the next ball I kind of give a little tap back here so it’s almost like oh I you’re going to make it there and I give a little tap as I walk in so what I do is when I make it and I’m setting up I do a little tap behind the ball as I’m setting up for the next Putt and then if I make it I do the tap like you saw and it’s just a conditioning thing it’s a trick it’s something that you got to develop over time but as you do you’ll just give yourself a confidence level that you’ve never had before you know what I love practicing listening to some music I love that I mean there’s really nothing better than throwing your earbuds on and just jamming out yeah don’t ever do this ever look what earbuds do they’re great right you can listen to whatever I don’t care what kind of earbuds you got it takes away from you hearing your shots whether it’s your putt your chips your full shots you cannot hear whether or not you hit a good shot or not and that will affect your ball striking look if you’re on the tour pro tour and you’re making it money for a living you do whatever you want but but if you just want to get better get rid of these listen to Natural sounds cuz that’s how you play and so if you practice different than you play it’s not going to work take it off and you’ll start hearing different sounds like oh that’s different and the hear and the feel will sink up right now the here and the feel don’t so you’re missing one of your key senses don’t do that sorry lose these enjoy reality moving on number six is this notice I didn’t get the jumbo giant bucket all right you don’t always need to hit the most balls possible you can get smaller and be more efficient and even better as long as you’re doing things correctly shoot half of this will even work cuz we did this the most important thing I love this my my stall was open the one I go to Every time this is what I love this is my stall right here I hit here every time it’s just I hit the best here I’m the most comfortable here so this is what I love I mean I can aim wherever I want I mean it’s just the best spot ever don’t do that never ever ever hit in the same stall every single time golf holes are different directions they’re different angles they’re different everything they’re different courses why would you practice in the same spot your whole life no mix it up we’re going to move I love this spot but you know what I love more than my spot is being a good golfer for the sake of all Humanity I must go to a spot I’m not comfortable or familiar with because it’s vital and critical that I improve that you improve that’s the goal here that you get better that’s what we want number eight might be the hardest of them all but you must do it it’s critical for your game and this is the one that you’re just going to you’re going to struggle with I think it’s this now don’t forget you have a plan of attack so I’m working on seven irons these are the balls I’m hitting with my plan of attack the shot I’m working on right here right now which is I’m just doing a 3/4 seven iron just a punch seven iron just working on the 3/4 shot feel the secret comes when I’m done with these balls like I said I was going to give you some bonuses as we go here’s a bonus my mat is aiming left of my target so my mat is here and my feet are here and if you don’t like that you know what you can do you can move your mat so the edge of it points where you’re going that’s beautiful that’s perfect and you can use this for your iron work so you’re not whipping the clubway inside free little training aid here for you that uh costs you nothing whip inside too far inside I want to go over that t and I don’t want to hit it on my back swing or my through swing my back swing hit it oh that was perfect nobody does what I’m about to tell you move grab your stuff go to a new location mid-range session grab your junk and go somewhere else number nine is this all always look for free balls they’re around here look at that I just got a whole giant thing for free that’s why you don’t get a full bucket you can get no bucket if you want you’re going to find free balls you just got to look around it’s not the main reason you move you move because you got to change up scenery you never hit the same golf shot on the golf course from the same spot two times in a row unless you’re Mulligan man and uh if you want to be any good you’re not Mulligan man so you’re going to to move now we have a different look different perspective and now I can work on my plan of attack which we already talked about uh secret number 10 is this and I have a bonus for you that you’re going to love that I employ a lot of times it’s coming up but secret number 10 is always always work your wedges every single time you did chipping but now work your wedge game pitching wedge always make sure you wear I want wear marks on this sucker on This Groove wear it out get a new wedge every six months every year like wear it out that’s how much I want you to practice your wedges if you’re a master of your wedge domain it don’t matter where you hit your driver there it is I don’t know if you heard it but everybody at the range heard that sound it made when it hit that blue thing I could see why this is one of the top 10 public driving ranges in America it’s a fun place okay another bonus tip for you as you move from space to Space Station to Station using Club to Club it’s it’s critically important that you clean your grooves Groove It brush Link in the video description below your grooves must be cleaned every time you move it’s a good reinforcement too as you do that because it’s conditioning yourself that it’s more Golf Course like style where you hit a shot you clean your groove see we’re hitting it in a good spot too that’s what you want us to see you don’t want this all over the face you got work to do groovy brush link below look at this watch this where is it watch this it knows it knows where it goes watch this look at that that’s tight on there watch it it’s alive coer brush now you may move all right this is truly a secret and it’s controversial to say the least and many people well some people love it some people are highly against it but I I don’t think there’s a problem with it look am I stealing golf balls no I’m going to come back and hit these but in my world somewhere up in here it’s okay to take your balls and come back later later today tomorrow next week whatever that’s a secret that I don’t think many people people uh use because you get tired you just leave your balls take them with you you paid for them I’m not going to keep them not going to steal them I’m going to return later today another bonus free for you when you load your clubs in your car always put them in bottom side first like this slide them in this way the reason is this when you take them out they just they slide right out like that if they the other way the clubs are flying out all you look like a knucklehead peace out love you guys see you next time

Ok the take balls home is more of a joke at the end of the video. Not something I typically do. 😂
Half of us weekend hackers don’t have golf shoes or wedges so some of these don’t even apply 😅
you are the beast!!
I live in Florida and understand people come here to go on vacation and I get it and we benefit as a state for that. I don't get where playing load music, smoking big cigars, and drinking until you can't hit the ball comes from. Just enjoy being outside and the golf course. Listen to your strike. You can get better just by relaxing a bit.
The biggest thing for me, which I was taught growing up…
Practice the way you play.
Too many people go out and rapid fire balls on the range
1. Take your time and take each shot like you would on the course
2. Aim for a target, like you would on the course
Too many people only work on one part of their game
3. Work on each part of your game around the same percentage of time as the strokes you take with that portion of the game on the course. If you spend 25% of your time hitting long clubs, 25% hitting approach, and 50% around the green, then spend your time that way when practicing. Things that you don't do very often on the course are going to effect your golf score the least. If 90% of your game is around the green, then you need more work around the green.
4. Wear proper golf attire. If you practice with tennis shoes, no golf glove and a t-shirt and then go out on the course, everything is going to feel off.
5.Warm up before swinging. Ever notice that your swing slowly changes throughout a round? Maybe you were hitting a fade early and then as the round progressed, you start hitting a draw. More often than not, it's because you started out tight and slowly loosened up.
6. Don't over swing. Many people hit the driving range and try hitting as hard as they can. It isn't bad to swing hard part of your session if you are spending a lot of time trying to increase your distance (it's going to require a bunch of other training as well), because if you swing a lot faster than you normally would, swinging slightly faster starts to feel more normal. The issue, is that it isn't going to help your golf game, especially as little as most people hit the range. You want to swing the same speed you normally would in a round, so that your body can get into a consistent rhythm.
It's a shame how few ranges have grass tees now though.
I worked on chipping in my yard. My goal was to get the balls over the driveway. I think it made me good around the green.
If you have to pay extra to play a chipping area…your going to the wrong range
Hitting off of Mats suck, even my fat shots are good lol
Life time range ban if you take a basket of balls home from UK ranges. I've witnessed this happen myself. 😂😂
I bought the same black Vessel golf bag earlier this summer. I was looking for a luxury carry bag, and I found it!
Nice short game ball sleeve….links
#1. Find out where the Bathroom is.
Dam it’s expensive out there ! 22 bucks for balls that’s a greens fee here !
nice psychs!
great stuff.
People that spend tons of time and money at the range usually suck soon as they tee off on the course is for a reason.
24 bucks for the balls and 8 dollars for entry???? in norway you can come and go on any golf cource you want and pay 3 maybe 4 bucks for 30 balls
I hit same shot from same place, not because I'm Mulligan Man…I'm OB man. Hopefully not quite the same shot.
Doing lessons with a pro a few weeks now and everything the pro thought me this guy just laid out … awesome video man …!
I would drive extra minutes to go to a range that doesn't have those nasty mats. You don't get good feedback on mats. In the summer here in Florida most of the sand traps, including on the fairways, are like hitting on concrete.
@MrShortGame To get better faster, you need to put on a shock collar and have your son shock you every time you don't make a putt or make a bad shot. 🙃
I got a chuckle out of that. Good commentary .⛳ Thank you
I do > putt/chip/full-shot-range in equal sessions. If no time then always putt/chip.
Mr short game quotes of the day “have to be able to feel your balls”, “you can get smaller and be more efficient”, “as long you are doing these correctly, shoot half of this will even work”, “grab your junk and go somewhere else” 😂😂 but seriously this video has helped me to practice with a plan. Appreciate the content
Taking the balls could be construde as theft….our ranges in UK have a sign saying theft of range balls will lead to prosecution ….also if many did it it also would lead to shortage at the range….so IMO not a good idea and I doubt if range owners would think so either…
such a low, creepy, and criminal thing to do taking the bucket of balls home that you don't use
There are guys out there like me. We have ONE club (aka driver). We hate golf. We LOVE to drive the golf ball. That is why it is 100% at the drive range.
Taking golf balls from a driving range without permission is legally considered theft, regardless of whether there are signs stating this. The intended use of range balls explicitly dictates that they must remain on the premises. When someone removes them from the range, it legally constitutes theft.
I must emphasize that following such advice as seen on the "Mr. Short Game" YouTube channel not only misrepresents the legality of such actions but actively encourages behavior that could lead to criminal charges. It's important to understand that in jurisdictions with "three-strikes" laws, being convicted of theft, even for something seemingly trivial like taking range balls, could lead to disproportionately severe consequences on subsequent offenses.
Advising people to engage in actions that clearly violate legal standards is irresponsible and potentially damaging. It’s not just about whether the action is controversial; it’s about it being outright illegal.
It’s crucial for content creators to understand the impact of their advice, ensuring it aligns with legal norms and doesn’t inadvertently lead viewers to commit unlawful acts.
Please consider the consequences next time, Mr. Short Game. People can quite easily receive 25 years in prison if they follow your tip. Do you really want that on your conscience?
Finally, regarding your attempt to dismiss this as a joke or otherwise trivialize the issue, this is no laughing matter. You are aware that many people take that particular advice to heart. As a former range owner myself, I know for a fact that many people naturally assume it's okay to take balls home (which costs us a lot of money). Sure, most might return them at some point, but a significant portion of the balls that leave the range never come back.
I tried stopping this with signs, to no avail. Then I installed cameras and posted warnings about prosecuting theft, which had some effect. I hated to resort to such measures, but the theft was jeopardizing my business. Finally, I displayed their mugshots in the reception area, which seemed to do the trick. The theft dropped to almost nothing.
However, I do advise everyone to simply ask if they can take a ball home. The response might surprise you. I always said no, but I added that I would give them the same amount or more for free the next time they purchased a bucket. (It actually gave me more returning custumers.) Trust me, treat us good and we try to do the same to you. /Cheers
Its a joke people, cmon lighten up
I wish our bunkers at my local courses looked that good, mine are more like concrete.
You're not supposed to wear soft spikes on golf mats. That's why I have a pair of spikeless driving range shoes.
You should make a practice check list so people can kind of have a guide. I haven’t really seen a teaching YouTube channel do that. That do the video teaching stuff but not an option for just a practice check list. Appreciate all the content man.
and have to feel your balls…. LMFAO🤪😜
Football coach used to say, “You’ll play like you practiced. Practice like shit, and you’ll play like shit.”
WTF?! No it's not a secret to steal golf balls from the range. I love your channel and you have great advice. When someone does that with your Audi and says that they were just borrowing it, are you going to have the same idiotic position?
Coming out with an edit that says it's a joke after the fact is the same level of cringe that prank tik-tok losers thrive on.
If I am being honest, I actually hope the range sees this video and reprimands you or even bans you from their premises because rules are for everyone. Don't teach people to do skeevy things on your channel any more, MrShortGame. It takes a lifetime to build your reputation and a moment to destroy it.
I have to thumbs down the whole video.
bonus tip: stop hitting off a mat. It's bad for your wrists and elbows and gives you a false sense of contact with the ball.
Or just join a club with all of the practice areas!
Wish there was a range around here that had even a chipping green ,asking for sand trap aint gonna happen…there are a few chipping green ones but theyre usually at courses that have a range too
I can always feel my balls ..some say too, often 😂
First, a divot happens because you strike the ball as you should have, so if you blaming the Matt for bad shots maybe work on your game more, to that dude who say Matt mess up your game.
You should had add 2 more tips.
Buy the balls, don’t just come in, and go pick up the balls on the short game area
Don’t just come in do the above fill your golf bag, with range balls, hit a few and leave , come in the next day and do the same
We have a range to practice maintaining it is not free, Yes looking at your guys on tampa bay downs golf range I seen at least 15 of you that do the same every day or every time I go practice 3 times a week.
Come on buy the balls helps us have a nice range to practice on.
You never stretched your body and lower back……
