So this is the year where I’ve decided I definitely want to play more Golf and I’ve said this before but it has become more of my New Year’s resolution to make sure that I get on that Golf Course definitely more than I did last year and the motivation has therefore been there
To practice hitting some shots and hitting some balls and like everybody else I’m obviously very keen to make sure that by the time the golfing season comes I feel like my swing is in a good shape and there’s a couple of things that’s been really interesting because
Kind of gone through the last few months where I I wouldn’t hit many shots I’d only generally hit balls if I was demonstrating in a lesson or an online lesson or occasionally for some videos here and when I’ve sort of been able to hit some shots more in a concentrated
Practice there a couple of things that I’ve learned that have made the golf swing way way easier so one of the things that I’m always trying to do which you tend to find most golfers are as I’m always trying to make sure that I get a nice feeling of turning through
The golf ball and getting a good delivery with my right hand and the key thing with that is I really try and make sure that I turn my chest so I feel like my chest turns very much down and with my left leg and the other feeling that I
Like is to get my right forearm pointing more up towards the sky so as I allow my forearm to sort of supernate in terms of this movement here this basically creates a nice shallowing move which means that if I turn through the ball I feel like I get the club into a really
Nice delivery position now I’m going to talk about that more importantly in in upcoming videos but the thing that you really need to be brave when it comes to hitting shots is you do need to feel like the face is coming down open which I know a lot of people don’t like they
Like to think if I can get the face Square but the problem is when you try and think about getting the face Square I find a lot of my students end up in these types of positions when I sort of talk to them about trying to be a bit
Braver getting the face more open and turning through they do start to get into these sort of positions here now that’s very much the same for myself now I started noticing that what I was doing in my back swing is I was closing the club face too much instead of allowing
The club face to rotate a little more open so I thought let’s create a video around the takeaway in terms of exactly what we should be looking for now I’m going to use a swing guide a swing guide most people that I mention this to end
Up going oh I’ve got one of them locked away in the garage somewhere these are really inexpensive and I’m not saying that it’s the perfect training game but it’s a nice point for reference particularly for this video so all we need to understand the takeaway is two things Target line well three things
Target Line Club shaft swing guide let’s start off with the target line and the club shaft so what should happen as I take the club back is the club shaft should always point in a straight line so see where the way my club shaft is pointing down towards my target line has
I’m taken the club back like so okay now that’s rule one the problem with that is there is an element of subjectivity in terms of like that could Point down towards my target line that could Point down towards my target line so then it’s a bit like what should your wrist be
Doing well what needs to happen is your hands and arms need to move to the side of your body and there needs to be a small degree of wrist hinge now wrist hinge is this motion that I’m demonstrating here however the key term there is small degree what you want to
Avoid is excessive I meet a lot of golfers that do a huge amount of wrist hinge to the point where the club ends up going under plane and then they struggle and starting to move IND differently to get the club back on plane this is where the swing guide
Comes in so when you hold the golf club what will happen is you’ll grip the club in the fingers and you’ll have to get the heel pad sitting on top and that means when you hold the club your left arm is not going to be in line with the
Club shaft okay so there’s going to be a difference between the angle on the club shaft and your left arm and the idea is in the first move you should introduce an element of wrist hinge to get the club shaft back in line with the left
Arm hence the swing guide so if you imagine my forearm bone here so my forearm and the swing guide they’re originally not in line but once theyve introduced a small amount of wrist hinge can you see the way they are now in line so what you’re trying to do in that
First move is you’re trying to introduce a subtle amount of wrist hinge to the point where the swing guide goes back in line with your your left arm and as long as that club head travels through that plane line you lift it up that’s all you need and that will create a nice
Flattening on that wrist and that will get you into a really good position and that’s what I’ve been noticing I’ve been I was struggling with my ball striking cuz I was kind of getting a bit this way a little bit too shut hands a little bit
Too close bit too sort of steep and then felt like I was having to do a lot of shallowing since I’ve sort of got the feeling now of being more this way the club more right in front of me I found it much easier to be able to rotate
Through the golf ball and keep that club face much squarer for me that feels more open as I can turn through so again if I hit a couple of shots here you see the where just get setup little bit off in terms of Mis centered in terms of strike there but
Again the right sort of idea and that’s quite common a lot of golfers that I me get quite toe in the contact and a lot of that is because of the simple fact that they get a bit too shut in that takeaway so you got to try and be brave
With a little bit of wrist hinge and understand that wrist hinge will just open the face and then you can rotate nicely through the golf ball so these aren’t perfect strikes but they’re okay in terms of the general direction that’s better that’s the one I’ve been after so that’s for me that’s
The swing that I really want and those feelings are getting the club into this position here then up and then keeping that forearm up to the sky as I turn through and like I say we’ll talk about that in more detail on an upcoming video particularly for the driver but work on
That takeaway make sure that you’re getting that little bit of wrist hinge getting that left arm and that club shafting line I’ll see you guys again really soon that’s the one
