In this video you’re going to learn how to grip the club correctly and this is going to help you with your direction and help you hit more shots on target so the grip is responsible for the club face control okay so what that means is the club face
Will dictate the initial direction of your shot and if you’ve not got the correct grip that’s going to affect whether that club face is open or closed now I must that there are different grips that you will see within Golf and some are very effective that might not be absolute
Textbook we see certain strong grips that can be effective for certain golfers and equally you see some weak grips as well that are effective so we’re not saying one siiz bits all however when I’m teaching on a day-to-day basis I’m seeing some common faults that are really going to help you
Fix and hopefully improve that ball flight so when it comes to the placement of your hands we’re going to start off with your lead hands in my case the left hand and what you’re looking to do here is we want to run the grip just underneath that forefinger down underneath the pad of
Your left hand and then we’re going to grip like so where if we were to sort of look down here that we’ve got two Knuckles visible on that left and as I look down we’ve got the V that’s created between the thumb and forefinger pointing at your right shoulder like
So in this position I should easily be able to hinge that club up and down if you can’t do that that tells me that you’ve got a very palmy grip and this is what I see regularly so so the slices tend to grip it too much in the palm and
And what that essentially does it gives you a weak grip and and that’s going to open the club face it’s also very difficult to hinge the club back so if you’re someone that finds it difficult to hinge the club back the face tends to roll open I would check that lead hand
So that is that that’s really the the kind of cause of that py grip so into that position we’ve got the two Knuckles visible and then the right hand is is really key so for me the right hand represents the club face so if we see that club face that Leading Edge Square
I want the right hand matching that so from here I’m coming in from side on the right hand is matching that the right hand is covering my left thumb and that gives me a a very neutral grip so now I’ve got my neutral grip I want to talk a little bit about pressure
Okay so how tight should you grip the club question I get asked a lot if we’re saying zero is the club falling out of our hands and we’re saying 10 you’re strangling it I would be looking at about five or six out of 10 so we’re
Gripping on the club where we’ve got the control but then we’re we’re sort of soft enough to have the feel and to allow the club to work as it should do now with the grip with the golf swing it can vary player to player but that’s a
Guide to help you get a feel for how high hard to grip the club if you’re somebody that tends to struggle with the grip I got this off Amazon this grip trainer really simple nice and cheap it Clips on to the grip like so and I use this a lot with students
But you can see here that it’s got a couple of holes and it sort of shows you where to put both the lead hand here again we’ve got the two Knuckles visible we’ve got the the V up to the right shoulder we’ve got the trail hand on top
And that gets you in the correct position and with some practice it’ll become a bit more natural and just finally as a routine what I would do if this is something that’s new to to you I would put your left hand on First and take your stance
Like so and then building that right hand again right hand matching that club face not not on top not too underneath right hand matching that club face and then from there we can make our swing and hopefully you’ll hit some straighter shots thanks as always for
