  1. Matthews has never once missed the postseason. Nor has most of the core minus Reilly. Steve has compared the Devils' current core to that of the Leafs, but here's the thing:

Hughes, Hischier, Bratt, and Mercer have been through some of the worst seasons in franchise history. They know what it's like to be a joke. Matthews hasn't felt the pain of missing the postseason completely and being a bottom feeder

  2. The whole GM thing looked like a couple going through a rough patch (Leafs vs Kyle, not talking about Kyle and his family)

That they kinda both decided to take a step back in sight of recent revelations that exposed some cracks and when they reconvened, the cracks were ever more apparent to Shanahan and MLSE…

They might have put their finger on the bigger underlying issues that sink the leafs every year when things get tough…

  3. I think that declaring that he'd either be with the Leafs or out entirely was what ended Dubas. It ceded a lot of bargaining leverage that he had and essentially reduced the consequences of firing Kyle Dubas to simply not having Kyle Dubas anymore (and I do believe that he will be difficult in a great many ways to replace). After that press conference, it was clear that the organization would not have to worry about Dubas taking off to another NHL team with a head full of plans… and as Dubas is a very data-driven GM, what he knows is central to his successes.

  4. March 2023: Not winning a single playoff round warrants a contract extension offer and a compliment you are doing an ‘excellent job’ by Shanahan.

  5. Leafs need cap space to build all the missing pieces. Tavares has a no move clause. That only leaves Marner or Nylander. Nylander is at a good value and getting better. That only leaves Marner…

  6. Keef was the problem not dubas. The talent was there. Just not the right coach to get the most of his stars in the playoffs.

  7. To be fair, some of Burke's decisions were good: drafting and sticking with Kadri, trading Schenn for Van Riemsdyk and rafting Reilly.

  8. With respect to Keefe and training camps, every other team was going through the same thing.

  9. Those other teams that Adam is talking about had some of the top coaches and GM's in the NHL (unlike the current team).

  10. And please don't compare this team to the 92/93 Leafs. I watched that team, and it had far more heart than this one. Not more talent, but more heart.

  11. You guys should create a video this off season where a bunch of SDPN members try to pronounce french words and then Julian says them correctly. Almost like a leaf media video but hosted by Julian instead of Steve.

  12. Hi Jesse, Adam and Steve. Love the show, been a fan since before the pod started. As a die hard leafs fan, slightly older but close to your ages I enjoy to commiserate with you guys. As of now I am furious with Shannahan. I feel that he let his massive ego get in the way of doing what was best for the team as it pertains to Kyle Dubas. I believe your show does a good job representing leaf fans. Management and ownership need to hear from us. Giddyup

  14. Steve Dangle you need to move on from these co hosts they are maxed out at amateur hour. to my surprise (i admit) youve moved beyond that level and you dont need to be on a show with guys who arent on your level

  15. Another error: Pridham wasn't "a tool" used by Dubas. He did all the heavy lifting on both analytics and payroll manipulation schemes. These things were beyond Dubas' ability. He only played a "quant" on tv and took all the credit for it (and Dubas fanboys and clueless media ate it up)

  16. the achilles heel are the leafs fans and media. you have the best 5 years in team history and you guys blow it up just as your stars are about to hit their prime with all that experience.

  17. Similar to like Chicago when dale tallon drafted all of the great players and was fired before they had for the cups in 2013 and 2015. Maybe the leafs can have the same fortune.

  18. Can anyone remember the Mental Health site that they were promoting earlier this year? I have a co-worker that is in serious need, and I cannot remember it for the life of me.
