@TXG
Hey great video very happy to see you guys are doing a lot of the same stuff and materials they use on the TaylorMade Tour truck..
What is the process of puring a shaft and why would someone want that or not want it?
great video, love these two guys
Pretty cool process to watch! Thanks guys👍
LONG BUT READ, ESPECIALLY IF YOU OWN PING. ARE YOUR IRONS RIGHT???
Great vid. I’ll give my horror story. March 9 I was fit for irons, ordered new Ping I525 irons, love em. Received 3 weeks later and unboxed. In box was clubs and 1 small little tag, and tag said my last name, model, lie, and retro….thats it!!! I ordered 1 degree weak, so i would think there would be a spec sheet showing quality control and specs, actual lofts…nope. I immediately questioned that and called PGA superstore where fit and ordered. They assured me this is sadly the way Ping does it, only company that doesnt provide spec sheet on custom bends. They told me they dont have any problems with ping and tag said retro because they adjusted weak and that means retro no matter weak loft tweaks. Ok i said, its ping, they gotta be correct.
Fast forward to 2 weeks ago. Weather finally broke and got out. Windy as hell, so hard to tell, but some clubs seemed off. Days later played again and windy as hell again, but this time i really questioned some clubs, horrible gapping and short. Finally beautiful day few days ago and got out. OH MY!!! Clubs distances and gapping are butchered. Old clubs, 175 7 iron. New clubs 1 weak of old and cant hit 160 without swinging out of shoes. Easily 10-12 yards short of expected distance. 9 iron same, cant hit 150 swinging like im possesed. Took them to local pro of 25+ yrs after round and we put on loft and lie vice. Lies all good, 1/8 degree or less if off at all, maybe 1-2 clubs.
Heres the loft fun we found from Ping!!!!
What they are suppose to be, what they are.
4 // 22 —- 24.5
5 // 25 —- 26.5
6 // 28 —- 30
7 // 31.5 —- 33
8 // 36 —- 38
9 // 41 —- 44.5
P // 46 —- 48
Zero consistency. 2 – 6.5 dregrees!!!
Basically have 2 5 irons and 2 wedges and whatever in between.
How on earth can you get butchery so bad from such a big reputable company?
Needless to say many calls were immediately made and clubs went in mail today. Ping said they will immediately move to front of line and be lofted correctly with a digital machine, no human error, like they do for pros. Why arent all their clubs done that way, and how many ppl got new clubs that are wrong and they will never know because they may not know their yardages and gaps like i do?? PGASS also emailed me a 2 day air label for quicker service and said ping told them 1 week. I am having them shipped to PGASS and demanded they check lofts before they send to me. Any issues and i no longer own Ping, and they agreed. I do hope all will be rectified and Ping was very apologetic. Sweet clubs in fitting for sure. Not 1 thing i dont love.
If you own new Pings, any model, that are custom spec, pay attention. Consistent yards? Consistent gapping? I guarantee im not the only one to get wrong specs. Have them checked, dont settle for less than what you paid for. Hope this may help any others out if they sense issues.
Great video! Just like Matty boy did back in the day, Mike has gotten way more comfortable and confident in front of the camera. Loved this insight from a master of his craft.
Been building my golf clubs for a while and love it! You guys have my dream job!
Would love to see a parallel vs. taper tip iron shaft build.
Also the nerd in me wants to know, if you’re weighing to less than a gram, do you calibrate your balances to a limit of performance a regular intervals? I have seen more accurate scales walk a few grams in my time.
Yes Mikey, love this sort of video. I am wanting to get into club buidling and this is so informative
Good stuff guys 👍
Personally I think it was a mistake on the customers part for not having his or her club SST pured…it would have been nice to see TXG process in having one done.
I appreciated the detail that goes into making clubs as per the specs.
Well done boys! Learned much about club building and why a fitting is a must. Hope my wife buys me a fit and build for Christmas lol
WHEN IS THE TXG CLUB BUILDER CERTIFICATION COURSE COMING!!! Lol genuinely would LOVE to learn all there is to do with club building/fitting just have no idea where to start or how to start lol
Absolutely Love this guys! Keep up the great content for us golf addicts! Maybe a build series?
one of my favorite vids to watch …awesome guys ..love the builds vids
I love this stuff……I've been building and repairing clubs for 20yrs in my garage………mostly for me and my buddies !!! Sure wish I would have known about golf when I was young………I would have become a pro…….however I found golf at 35 yrs old and now I'm 67…….and just love the technical aspect of equipment……..thanks guys !!!
I know its not on subject. But have you guys ever tested the Vega wedges? Just picked some up 2nd hand and they feel great.
This is my sort of video, can you do a set of irons / Wednesday next and sow how you swing weight them.
Can you tell us exactly what that 3M epoxy you use again?
How many clubs does TXG build per week?
One thing I’m curious about. The connection system that Club Champion uses is on the heavy side making swing weights usually in the high D’s. So do your customers end up on the heavier side swing weight wise since Mike said they match specs or do you put a lighter weight in the dead if it’s adjustable to get back to a more reasonable SW ?
Mikey – as Arcoss Brand Ambassadors, as I am, have you found building clubs with the Arccos Grips an issue, when it comes to over all golf weight? I ask as the grips will be significantly heavier than standard grips, irrelevant of size.
Are you using a swing weight calculator during the dry build?
I could watch these for days.
I looked up the 3M Scotch Weld epoxy, comes in tan or black. It appears yours is green?
Hey guys, was hitting my g400 bad due to swing, picked up 410 lst and it was not good. Went to a cally fitting and was put into rogue max due to not a high spin guy. So I decided to tinker with the 410 and added an additional weight from a plus into middle since original is set in draw position. Def helped with flight and control. Fujikura pro 2.0 shaft 60g. Do I need to counterbalance with cb shaft since adding weight? Thnx!
Hopefully you have ventilation when sanding, that dust would be nasty.
