Fair result for so little course activity.
What happened? Last week across the line was 95% gone. Now its back.
You are right reduce effort and speed especially on the backswing. You know you can hit the ball solid, just just let that happen.
good takeaways….keep at it.
78 is a good score for us all average player…very good
I noticed when you pulled the lead shoulder was open…it’s my gremlin that I fight
It’s good that you have a plan to get your swing together…goals keeps us focused
Always a good video

Well, I guess that you can break 80 with almost any swing you use and that's good. I think that you had really good rhythm on quite a few of those swings. I have a bit of a different take on the direction issues. You actually were making several different swings during the day. On some of them you have the best hip depth retention I think that I've ever seen you have and therefore you actually had your lower torso inclined into impact and looked much closer to textbook coming in to the ball and better late hit and compression. An example is the 8-iron at 5:09 which is the best approach into the ball I've maybe ever seen you make. The 9-iron on the last (8:43) also had many of the same characteristics but not quite as good because you lifted your lower torso late in the downswing and flipped somewhat more. I think that this might have been partially due to what appeared to be an uphill lie which can give spine angle challenges even to expert players at times (also normal to aim more right on these lies for a rightie since ball will hook or be pulled more easily on them)
On the other hand, the swing at 2:02 was the opposite to the 5:09 swing, so your hips came way forward, lower torso very upright and heavily hood upper spine. I also saw several other swings where this happened a fair bit.
The "shot of the day" swing at 6:38 was a mixture of the swings at 5:09 and 2:02 with a good spine angle and hip distance retention coming in and then just slightly before impact standing up and upper spine hooding, however overall better hip distance retention and better approach to the strike. Part of the success of this shot I believe was the ball slightly below the feet which caused an almost perfect shaft angle through impact relative to your address shaft plane. This is something that I've dealt with when I was having spine angle retention issues due to a poor takeaway. It finally dawned on me that every time the ball was below my feet (ideal amount was about 4 inches), I would flush the ball. This finally clued me in to the fact that the ball below my feet was allowing me to create a perfect shaft plane coming through because it was too steep normally for super flush strikes but when I was swinging at a ball slightly below me, it became absolutely perfect. Fixed my outside hands high takeaway, fixed my plane, and voila problem solved.
So one thing to consider about the inconsistency, in case I haven't been clear, is that you were swinging with several different spine angles during the round and then when you throw in lie undulations, your body will be very confused about how to release from shot to shot. With spine angle retention as in 5:09, you will naturally release the club more to the left (as a rightie). When you straighten up more, you will more naturally release down the line or even a little right so there's a lot for your body to decipher with those changes from shot to shot.
I was surprised to see you keep your spine angle that well on some of those shots because I wasn't really seeing that in last week's video to the same degree at all. a couple of those moves into the ball were starting to look a little bit more like a pro delivery (such as 5:09 being the closest to Gankas-ish I've ever seen you be:-) ). Ideally I think that's the way to go for you but in any case you'll have to make sure that you are approaching the ball in a consistent manner (spine angle, hip depth) although it might change slightly with the length of the shaft due to some of the other anomalies of the overall move.
It's quite possible that spine angle and lie variations had something to do with the shorter wedge mis-strikes. You were generally having the better spine angle retention with shorter irons such as 8 or 9-iron. However with a very short shaft and short swing radius and high loft, shot quality is even more dependant on consistent spine angle and spine angle is harder to maintain with those particular variables so I'm wondering if there were some quick shifts that caused changes in clubface delivery and thus poor strikes. These clubs are actually the ultimate test of spine angle consistency and quality of release which makes it amazing that someone like Cameron Champ can hit a gap wedge about 130-140 yards with a nice smooth swing. Cheers.
Most players never break 80. Well done Chad!
Posture. When you reach out for the ball the scapula's float forward and you get that very rounded appearance. This is an out of position posture and you will struggle to flush the ball on every swing. Scapula's back and down at address will give you a feeling of connection from your abs thru your upper thorax. Your back and abdominal muscles will work in unison. It is one of most easiest and common mistakes to make. The good news is it is very easy to fix when you have awareness. This will not only improve your ballstriking but will do wonders for your pitching and chipping. The flat backswing is an entirely different issue. Just my honest opinion Chad.
Thanks
A very honest appraisal That swing has potential. Looking foward to seeing how it pans out over the coming weeks. Great stuff!!
I appreciate your honest look at the round. That being said, 78 is quite good for a new swing that you've inly work with a short time. Alignment plagues us all. Most of the time that's what causes my pulls( not pulls), so i feel you on that. Right now you still have a thinking swing. So naturally, excitement = increased effort(although unneeded) = more thought, which hurts the result. I think the quote from a legend of Bagger Vance is, "he learned to stop thinking without falling asleep." That's what you have with your chipping method. I'd bet there's very little thought about it, particularly when swinging. You've got a very good thing going. The main thing is to learn to simply do it, not think your way through it. That comes with time and practice. Then it fits you like your favorite shirt, shoe, hat, etc.. Just give it the time and the full swing will become like your short game. Automatic. Keep after it my friend
I'm telling you Chad, your swing is very similar to mine. On most of my swings I'm using the single plane, then shots from 160 in I use the Jimmy V swing. It's been working for me, but still struggling with my putter 👍 good video, love when your on the course ♠️
Can't tell…. are you pre setting your DRIVER forward like your irons ? THANKS ,Ron
Hi Chad obviously you are a great Weekend golfer. 78 is a good score. If you get into the 80s again then perhaps you should give your new swing more concern.
On those big successful drives you did I bet you waited a millisecond longer at the top of your swing allowing your trail shoulder muscles to relax instead of pulling them at the top of your less successful swings. Cheers 👍⛳️😃❤️🥂
Chad – Thanks for the video. I think you are being too hard on yourself. I thought that when using your driver your swing was smooth but seemed a bit rushed with your irons. Keep up the good work.
If the objective is to stay still why do you have so much shoulder turn?
