We have Dean, Rob, and Jerry for a special in-depth analysis of a Progressive Wing Chun system by Sijo David Kerr. Jerry met David Kerr in 2014 when he arrived in LA briefly, and David Kerr showed Jerry some martial arts on camera. Let’s take a retrospective look at this Wing Chun Mixed Martial Arts system and apply some objective analysis to this. Jerry is no longer in touch with this Kerr, but he welcomes him to come on Fight Commentary Breakdowns again to show what he’s teaching now. For those of you that see this analysis, please watch the whole video and see that we’re just trying to find out what works and what doesn’t work. We’re using old footage that Jerry filmed and edited to serve as a good discussion point for much-needed conversations among the traditional Chinese martial arts community. David Kerr was a trailblazer, and we are watching this video with that intention. Like all trailblazers who are trying to reinvent and improve on systems, he had some great stuff, some mediocre stuff, and some not so great stuff. We want to thank David Kerr for putting himself under the spotlight in 2014. Hope more Wing Chun people show us stuff too!
Update since we posted this: Deano, the assistant instructor that Kerr did many demonstrations on reached out to the channel after seeing this. Kerr currently has a Judo and Jiu Jitsu coach in addition to a boxing coach, so looks like he’s been improving his craft. Also, before starting Wing Chun, Kerr trained in Shotokan, Muay Thai, and Small Circle Jujutsu.
