A great entry level electric trolley from PowaKaddy that does what it says on the tin.

The FX1 is Powakaddy’s entry level electric trolley, meaning it’s the most basic model that is offered. It is also the cheapest model available. It’s ideal for golfers who may want a break from carrying their bag every round or upgrade from a push trolley. So, how does Powakaddy’s latest offering stack up? I took it out on the course to find out…

NCG SUMMARY

If you’re a golfer looking for a trolley that’s quick and simple to get up and down this is it. The FX1 isn’t packed with tech, there’s no big LED screen it. but there’s still plenty to rave about.

It’s easy, you slot the battery in, turn it on and you’re good to go. It has a one button operating system, twist to increase speed, push to start or stop. It’s fairly lightweight and easy to manoeuvre around the course. It travels at a good speed and the battery life is good enough for a couple of round even on the standard battery – weight of your bag etc dependant.

The wheels can easily clip on and off but it does fold down to a reasonable size anyway.

Sleek design

Easy to operate

Good battery life

PowaKaddy FX1 electric trolley: First Impressions

What I love about this electric trolley is that it matches the rest of Powakaddy’s range, we haven’t lost anything in terms of visuals. The concept is great, it’s a really sleek design and the sporty style wheels.

Even though it’s the cheapest model on offer in the FX range, it sill looks like a really high end product. Something most people desire from their golf equipment.

There’s no LED screen but it’s designed to be simple which it is. You can see the battery level – which is all a lot of golfers want.

NCG Review

A big change visually, that you spot straight away, on the handle is that there is no screen. Instead it is just one simple LED, which is the on and off. A green and red light, for the respective alerts.

A similarity in the set up is that there is still the main button on the control centre, which I think is designed ergonomically really well. It’s an anti tamper button so that you have to press the centre of the button to make it move. This is great as you can’t accidentally set it off and have to awkwardly chase it.

Performance wise, the Powakaddy FX1 still has all nine different power speed settings that are evident in other models and is simple to use by turning the control button on the handle. Having different range of speeds is hugely beneficial to custom to different pace of walkers.

Some neat other features inclued a scorecard holder, a pencil holder and enough storage for tee pegs. These features are all designed really well to make life just that little easier out on the course.

The FX1 now has a USB-C port too so if you need to charge a GPS, your phone or anything else so it’s very handy.

Powering the trolley is the same plug and play battery that you would see in the rest of the Powakaddy range. A really efficient battery and easy to use, there’s no wires that need connecting, you simply just drop it into the holder at the bottom of the trolley.

I tested the FX1 Powakaddy trolley with a stand bag, and I must say it was great. The bag didn’t move around at all when the trolley was active, it felt secure. Of course, a trolley bag also fits, with a Powakaddy trolley bag fits directly into the base, if you wanted something with extra stability.

The trolley also comes with a Mag-Lok device, this works with a Powakaddy bag so that it can slot onto the trolley. This means that you don’t need to use the straps to keep your bag in place as it’s already locked in. Basically, it can then never fall off.

Practically, the trolley is very easy to put up and put down. Pushing in and pulling up the grey button helps to unlock the whole trolley. Perfect if you tend to be in a rush for that morning tee time.

Although, it’s not as small, when folded down, as some other models, I had no problem fitting it in my boot with my golf clubs. The wheels can easily slide off and on to help with space.

It’s also worth noting that the FX1 is compatible with Powakaddy’s accessory station, so you can add loads of extra features, such as an umbrellas stand.

Final thoughts

Overall, I think the FX1 is a great edition to the Powakaddy range. Its definitely a big positive to have a cheaper option for people who don’t want to spend as heavily on some of the other options.

There isn’t always a need for all the features modern electric trolley offer. A lot of golfers may already have GPS, for example, on their watch so there’s no point in paying for add-ons that you already have.

If you’re still unsure on which trolley to choose Powakaddy has a useful trolley selector tool to help you feature out which is best for you HERE.
