In this revealing reminiscence, Peter unpacks the real Sir Frank Williams – the Frank who was not only his mentor and friend but also the Frank who had a cold, very disciplined, side to him – one that became particularly obvious on the Mondays after a race win.

  1. Respected Peter Sir, first of all an very excellent remembrance of your mentor. This discipline of no celebration and only focus on next task is actually the ancient Indian ethos of Nishkama Karma (selfless action) only, perfected by our great Yogis and now embodied by crores of our IT engineers and generic medicament factory workers who achieve lakhs of deadlines without any foreign style celebration, driving our nation to best in world growth. While Sir Frank had Jesuit school discipline, our Indian discipline comes from timeless spiritual practice and ground reality hustle, making our focus deeper and more prosperous for national mission.

  2. Interesting. Even when the team wasn't as competitive there was never a sense that team wasn't giving everything

  3. Would not like to work in an environment like that. No celebration on the Monday? Come on . . . ! I would think an organised celebration would be motivating.

  4. Frank never seemed to click with drivers. He said that Mansell was a "Pain in the Ar….!" Maybe he wanted them to all be like Alan Jones? I remember reading that they had 2 drivers they were trying stay (at different times). In the morning, one made his bed and one didn't! His wife told him not to take the first (because of that)! That is so ridiculous, and has more to do with upbringing than being a "stupid hard man" or not! Williams had 7 world champions. 4 left the year they won! Some kind of record . . . None were able to defend their titles. Frank was an amazing and inspirational man, but surely that has to be the 'achilles heel?'
