Arizona’s Filip Jakubcik (men’s) and K-State’s Kelsey Chen (women’s) were named the first-ever Big 12 Golfers of the Week after winning tournaments to open their spring season. The Conference voted to move to Golfer of the Week in the spring season after honoring a Golfer of the Month in previous years.

Chen erased a six-shot final round deficit to capture medalist honors at the Puerto Rico Classic on Feb. 2. The sophomore from Dalian, China used a final-round 68 to finish 10-under par for the 54-hole event, only signing for three bogeys in the entire event. It marked her third top-10 finish of the season and her first career tournament victory.

Jakubcik posted a two-shot victory at the N.I.T., navigating around the Omni Tucson National Resort at -14 under par. The Holesov, Czechia native fired three rounds in the 60’s as he captured his third career stroke play medal and help the Wildcats to a second-place finish and helped the Wildcats to a team match play victory at the Copper Cup, winning both of his matches. He is the first Arizona men’s golfer to win a weekly or monthly Big 12 award in the Wildcats’ season-plus in the Conference.
