FIRST THINGS FIRST | Nick Wright ANGRY At Justin Herbert PRAISE With Los Angeles Chargers | NFL
#firstthingsfirst #nickwright #losangeleschargers

When the Chargers lose because of a poorest offensive line. Yeah. Because Herbert’s been hit more than any other quarterback, then what do we then we see this this flashing? No, we don’t see those excuses. So, I have a hard time like, yeah, they can make a run. Herbert’s awesome, but we you you know how they’re going to lose, right? My guess is you’re and I’s reaction to that is, and I shouldn’t, but if the Bills lose because of their run defense, yes, it’s been there all year. If the Patriots lose because of an uncharacteristic game from Drake May, we can say, well, he doesn’t have any playoff experience. Like, we can do that with every team that isn’t the Chiefs that that doesn’t have the resume and the bonus. But that’s not that that’s not where I was going with it. Where I was going with it is, and this is really the the the the genesis of so many of my probably more vitriolic than they need to be, Herbert arguments is in back-to-back weeks, they have won because of their defense. And then we’re like, man, Herbert is awesome. And that is and when we no very, very few quarterbacks, especially highly paid quarterbacks, get to play for perfect teams. And so I I I see them beat the Eagles where neither team get what was the final score of that game? 229. Okay. The where they hold the Eagles to 19 points and force five turnovers. They beat the Chiefs in a game where they hold the Chiefs to 13 points, force a red zone turnover, and then I also I simultaneously have to hear about all that Herbert’s overcoming. His his team’s weakness right now is they have a very injured offensive line, which is obviously very detrimental to a quarterback’s stats, but you have an excellent head coach. You have for the second straight year an awesome defense that is peaking at the end of the year. You’re supposed to have this great quarterback. So, I am glad to hear that you believe they can go on a run because I agree with you. If Herbert is the guy that you and his defenders say he is, they have enough in I do believe an AFC where there is no team that we’re like, man, they’re just going to have to screw up. This is hilarious, absurd, and so ridiculous because they’re winning because of the defense and how dare Justin Herbert get any credit. And he’s talking about they held them to 13 points and how much they held the Eagles to 19 points in all those turnovers. Nick literally was out there saying that Patrick Mahomes carried carried the Kansas City Chiefs against the Baltimore Ravens in the playoffs when they held Lamar Jackson to 10 points, forcing multiple turnovers. But it was just it was just Patrick Mahomes overcoming, just being great, holding the Miami Dolphins to seven points. Seven points. But it was all Patrick Mahomes. Just It’s amazing what Patrick Mah Patrick Mahomes led them in ways that we’ve never seen any other quarterback do. Mind you, they had an elite O line. Mind you, they had an elite defense. Mind you, they had Kelsey, an elite head coach, and Andy Reid, elite defensive coordinator in Spags. Funny how that works, funny funny how it’s always Patrick Mahomes doing everything and then when any other quarterback is going to get credit like a Justin Herbert, it’s all I have to hear about is how great Justin Herbert was awesome against the Philadelphia Eagles. He was awesome in this game. He’s working with nothing. He has limited resources. His O line is horrendous. Absolutely, positively horrendous. Justin Herbert is getting lit up. And literally has a broken, surgically repaired hand, wrist, whatever. And yet he is carrying this team into the playoffs. His defense is worse than the Kansas City Chiefs. 19.1 points per game, fifth in the NFL. The Chargers ninth, 20.3 points per game. And Justin Herbert has the 32nd ranked offensive line. Do you know how many teams are in the NFL? Do you want me to count them for you? We can do the math. 54%. Ah, but the run block is a little bit better. It’s the 31st ranked team. What are we doing here? Why are we trying to invent that Justin Herbert, one deserves no credit, and two, or I should say minimal credit, or two, he’s got enough to work with. I mean, it just doesn’t make any sense. None. I mean, Justin Herbert has been pressured 229 times, the best, the top in the NFL by a wide margin, and yet has worse weapon. Patrick Mahomes, again, all Nick Wright said was how great Rasheed Rice is. Xavier Worthy, Andy Reid, etc., etc. And he said, “The Chargers don’t have that. Their their their weapons are are not good. They don’t have the run game, etc., etc.” And yet Justin Herbert has better touchdown to interception ratio, um, higher completion percentage, higher PFF ranking ranking. He’s pressured more. 92.2 passer rating. Patrick Mahomes 89.6 passer rating. Sometimes the accomplishment is just keeping the team afloat, being competitive, making the playoffs, winning a playoff game, etc., etc., etc. The frustrating thing about this, and people will be like, why are you bringing up Mahomes or this or that? Because Nick Wright literally thinks Patrick Mahomes is the greatest quarterback. That that that that’s why we use him as a reference point. And Patrick Mahomes is obviously brilliant and elite and special, but you’re creating this ridiculous scenario where if Justin Herbert can’t carry this team to win the Super Bowl essentially, you’re then it’s kind of proof that he’s not the guy and you’re literally asking him to do something that Patrick Mahomes has never done. And the one year that Patrick Mahomes had to prove that he could do that very thing, he failed miserably. He failed miserably and he couldn’t even win seven games. He couldn’t make the playoffs. He made game losing plays. He did not have a team as rough right now that Justin Herbert has. He did not have a team like that in 2018, in 2019, in 2020, in 21, in 22, in 23, or 24. He simply did not. Heck, just name the Kelsey for Justin Herbert. just name the Kelsey even in 23 when you like well drop this and that and it’s like they had an elite defense as I just pointed out the the the beat the Baltimore Ravens 17-10. They scored 17 points where Kelsey made a diving backwards catch and a falling down onearmed leg cradling it with his body falling into the end zone. and and holding Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens, arguably the best offense in the NFL, to 10 points. To 10 points. Yes, Justin Herbert can get some blame if he loses in the playoffs where his defense holds them to 10 points. But even then, the Kansas City Chiefs had the third best O line in 2023, a year where Patrick Mahomes dominated yards after catch with 25,552. an absolute Andy Reed masterclass with a defense that was giving up only 17 points. 17 points where the Chargers are giving up a full field goal more this season. That’s massive. Everyone knows that’s massive. Three points is everything in the NFL. And Justin Herbert was actually scoring more with that team. The Kansas City Chiefs 21.8. Justin Herbert 22.5. So, can we just stop? Can we just stop, please? Can we stop making stuff up? Can we just stop making stuff up and creating impossible, brutally difficult situations where if then the quarterback doesn’t succeed, it’s just evidence and proof that Justin Herbert is not good enough. When the quarterback that Nick claims is the greatest quarterback of all time has never done the thing that you’re asking Justin Herbert to do. Like when you actually really say it that clearly, you realize just how insane of a statement it really is, you realize just how absurd it really is. That it actually makes no sense. And anytime anytime someone wants to try to twist it and just say like, well, Momes, he did it this. No, he did not. He did not do it in 24. He did not do it in 23. He did not do it in 22. He simply did not. And again, if you want to say, “But he won these Super Bowls and won that.” Again, like I always say, that conversation has nothing to do with anything. Number one. And number two, we’re strictly just trying to evaluate should Justin Herbert be able to carry, you know, what if they don’t win? We can’t use it as excuses. And it’s just like it it just it just doesn’t add up. It just it just doesn’t add up. the man who’s been taking an absolute beating. He is the most hit quarterback more than Andrew Luck. What this guy is doing is insane and heroic. The fact the Chargers are even remotely alive and competent and competitive is because of Justin. The defense has been great. No doubt about it. Coaching, etc., we’re not taking away anything from that. Not at all. But considering what Justin Herbert has had to work with, if Justin Herbert was pretty protected and was able to kind of dink and dunk and make kind of little passes and have them go off for like 10, 15, 20 yards, etc., etc., fine. But to illustrate my point even further, to prove this even more wrong, in 2023, the the the year that people want to claim that Mahomes carried and did the most, which is just not right. When I showed you the O line and the defense and etc, etc., just look at even the little dink and dunk passes. The man got 797 yards from passes behind the line of scrimmage and five touchdowns. Okay. In only 16 games played, 797 and five touchdowns. Justin Herbert doesn’t even have that. 318, less than half, and only one touchdown. So, he’s not even getting the coaching scheme support. Okay. In 23, Patrick Mahomes had four touchdowns and 624 yards offcreen passes. Justin Herbert has 123 yards and zero touchdowns on screen passes. So, no nothing [Music] has been made easy for Justin Herbert. But what do I know? I just live in reality. Those are just my thoughts. I’d absolutely love to hear yours. What do you guys all think about the San Diego Los Angeles Chargers and what it would mean for Justin Herbert if they I guess don’t win a Super Bowl or get to an AFC Championship game. I don’t even know, man. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below. I read every single comment whether you agree with me or disagree with me. 1. hm so his broken hand, down both tackles and his best receiver is a 34 year old plus Keenan Allen with a back up RB lol man nick is full of it

  2. I think Nick Wright’s problem is anyone that is a threat to Mahomes, he doesn’t like Herbert, Hurts, Allen or Burrow but he likes Geno Smith and Mayfield.

  3. Wright is a Mahomes fanboy. Unfortunately that distorts his “analysis” as a sports-talk personality. You just can’t believe him because he is hopelessly biased.

  4. There's zero question if the chiefs and chargers traded QB, the chargers would be missing the playoffs and the chiefs would be in the playoffs its that simple

  5. I’m sick of this whole carried by the defense narrative that is used for any qb. Tom brady “the greatest player of all time” had one the best defenses pretty much every year. I can’t think of any qb that has done a bunch of winning off the top of my head that didn’t have a great defense at some point in their career

  6. Broussard is so annoying he’s said “and we don’t want the excuses” but yet today he literally made excuses and said that mahomes had 4 injured oline lol he’s a nick butt sniffer

  7. The Chiefs are out of the playoffs nick. It's time to give Justin Herbert his recognition. Yes the defense has been playing lights out. But Justin Herbert has been making the elite throws when he needs to, and putting the team on his back offensively. He should be the MVP because of all that he has gone through.

  8. Nick, you said it before defense win championships so what the hell do you think the Los Angeles Chargers are doing? Their defense will win them a championship and Herbert will do what is needed for the offense because he knows he has a defense to rely on it now, which he never had in his career.. Patrick Mahomes had everything an offensive line a defense receivers tightens you name it. He was set up for success. Write out the gates. Now he is office of mine is a little rattled and now we’re gonna make up excuses for him.. what about Justin Herbert? Lots of pro bowl left tackle lots of pro bowl right tackle and the rest of the office of line has been hurt here and there Hamptons been gone for most of the season but they still managed to get by with the worst offensive line in the NFL with practice squad guys come on Nick give the charger or some dude’s hair and stop being a lame duck. We all know you are a charger hater, but that’s fine and dandy, and if they do go to the Super Bowl and win it, you’re gonna find excuses for the other team that lost instead of giving credit to the Chargers..

  9. The only two QBs that get all the praise and gets no blame are mahomes and burrow because they are analysts darlings they kill Lamar they kill Hurts and you heard people say if Josh Allen and the bills don’t win this year that he will never win they kill Herbert

  10. AND THAT'S WHY I GLAD HIS CHIEFS ARE OUT OF PLAYOFF CONTENTION. 😂😂😂 Nick is part of the reason why Patrick catches them strays.

  11. Bro, you say the same thing about Allen, so you're a hypocrite. You give all the credit to Allen and blame everyone else when they lose. You're no different than Nick.

  12. From Tom Brady, “If they protect Justin Herbert, he's the best passer in the league.” But Nick can sit there week after week and just hate on Herbert? It’s obvious he doesn’t like Herbert and that’s fine but let’s be real here most players in the NFL will tell you Herbert is elite. Travis Kelce says it all the time on his podcast. My opinion is Nick is a hater because the momentum is going to swing hard in the chargers favor for the foreseeable future. Bolt up ⚡️

  13. Julian – you need to shut your pie hole. You don’t know what you’re talking about – I watched your videos leading up to the season and you are wrong about a lot of stuff. Watch your pre-season raiders videos and you couldn’t be more wrong.

  14. This is why I can't listen to First Things First! Nick is just super biased and some what delusional! This show is mostly for Chiefs fans. I don't take FTF or Nick Wright serious at all! If any other QB in this league had the OLine that Chargers have they wouldn't even have 4 wins! Herbert surpasses everything that is asked of him. He makes the plays when they matter the most with either his legs or his arm! All you Chiefs fans welcome to reality! Take this season and humble yourselves! See y'all next season! Enjoy Cancún!

  15. And when they lost the jaguars in the playoffs, you said it was herbert's fault, nick, you're a dick !!!!……. Nick the DICK😂

  16. This show needs 2 better analyst to come on this show on a regular to defend
    Broncos and Chargers

Because this shit is a joke

  17. Aside from Cowherd, the problem with sports media is they aren’t ready to come off the Chiefs gravy train. It’s more about views for them. Until the Chargers win a “playoff game” they won’t give us our credit, due to us being a smaller fan base. Even when we win it’s more about the other team losing.

  18. Herbert does have a few elite receivers: Keenon Allen, Ladd MCConkey and Gadsden is up and coming. But Herbert rarely has enough O-Line time to throw the ball deep down the field…
