Julie & George || Woods Hole Golf Club Wedding Feature Film
Today, George and Julie make a lifelong commitment to love, honor, and support each other. On behalf of them, thank you for being here to witness and share their special day. George and Julie’s relationship can seemingly outshine any book or movie. It’s a love story for the ages that even the best writers couldn’t dream of. I mean, come on. In Australian, in an American meets, an evil corporate America fall in love against all odds. A global pandemic ensues, resulting in the Mortimers to take George in and treat him like family. I mean, cut to the travel montage. Flying across the world just for George’s family to do the exact same for Julie in Australia. I mean, we can add in like a heartfelt story arc of Julie’s dog training and like some crazy professional pickle ball competition. Like, does anyone here work for homework? We can get this to the big screen. We really should. Like, it’s movie magic. And their love really is magic. I asked Julie and George to each write me a letter about what their love for one another is, what it felt like to fall in love, what being in love feels like with each other, and their hopes for the future. And it’s safe to say George’s letter had me laughing out loud. And Julie’s letter had me crying happy tears because it was so romantic. Like seriously, I had to shut my laptop and revisit it like a week later. But together, their words are a perfect reflection of the joy, humor, and tenderness that results in an everlasting love. George’s letter about Julie was titled, Why I Love Julie. period. A statement all of us could easily answer. Her mom and dad might say it’s because she’s a peacemaker. Her brothers might applaud her ability to roll with the punches and move through life with grace. Best friends might say that it’s because she’s dynamic and loyal and that she always finds value in life’s small moments. George loves Julie for all of this and more. Julie’s letter was titled, “Julie loves George, exclamation point, all caps.” Which immediately made me channel what it’s like to write your crush’s initials in the margins of your school notebook. How would we answer that question? why we love George. Maybe the way he commands a room and makes everyone feel comfortable. His parents will admire his compassion and his sense of adventure. His his sister will say that he’s incredibly and unreasonably kind and brilliant. And friends will even admit that he is incredibly funny. Julie loves George for all of this and more. In both of their letters, they speak on their luck and often disbelief that the other loves them so deeply. Perhaps the real secret to their love is an element of bewilderment. That sense of wonder and quiet disbelief that you could find someone so extraordinary and that someone so extraordinary would choose you and that you could be lucky enough to have them forever. In George’s letter titled Why I Love Julie writes, “She’s kind, loyal, trustworthy, smart, and genuinely gorgeous. The way her eyes light up when she smiles feels like it’s coming from another world. George has never quite understood it why Julie loves him. He writes, “But I’ve never taken the time to question it. She’s very much out of my league and always has been.” Now, it might be important to note here that when George first told his mother about Julie and showed her a photograph of her, George’s mom replied, “Come on, George. That picture’s from a magazine.” In Julie’s letter titled Julie Loves George, Julie said that falling in love with George was the easiest thing she’s ever done. And it wasn’t one moment, it was all of them since she’s met him. And it’s still all of them every day. Julie loves everything about George. And she doesn’t know how she got so lucky to have all of him forever. Their love is real. You see it in the small moments which always end up being the ones that matter most. Maybe it’s a cornhole game or getting in your groove while skiing. Maybe it’s watching a movie together or sitting with the dogs. These are the moments that make up a lifetime. And George and Julie have a special skill to stay in these moments of peace and stillness and value each other for who they are. So, this is a day that every little girl’s dad thinks about the minute she’s born. I remember looking at Julie in the hospital nursery and then looking at the boy babies thinking, “Don’t even glance in her direction.” She’s She’s too good for you. Julie’s brothers know that Julie’s my favorite. I told them that early on and they’ve learned to live with it. When Julie was born, do and I already had three boys. Our world consists of building ramps, fallen puck dents on our cars, broken windows, black eyes, band-aids, and lost teeth. All of a sudden, we were blessed with this little curly-haired, blue-eyed angel. Life would change from this moment on. Some of my most cherished memories in life are our father-daughter dances. We would get all dressed up, much like today, and go to our Lady Angel’s grammar school. I love that Julie would stand on my feet when we danced. Tonight, Julie and I will dance again, and I’ll remember those precious times. As Julie got older, we kind of accepted that she may have a serious boyfriend and eventually a husband someday. We just hope she would meet a really nice guy who would treat her right. And she did. Heat. Heat. Do you, George, take Julie to be your lawful wedded wife? To have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and health, to love and cherish as long as you both shall live. I do. Do you, Julie, take George to be your lawful wedded husband? To have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish, for as long as you both shall live. I do. These circles don’t just symbolize eternity, but the passage of time. All the moments big and small that make up a life together. May the rest of your lives be spent side by side enjoying life’s smallest moments and building a simple, beautiful life with the love of your life. George, place this ring on Julie’s finger. By placing this ring on Julie’s finger, you are promising to love and honor each other as you build your future together forever. Julie, place this ring on George’s finger. By the power vested in me in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and in the presence of those who love you, I now pronounce you married. You may now kiss the bride. So, please join me in congratulating Julie and George on beginning their life together as Mr. and Mrs. Wall. Cheers. After knowing George for nearly 12 years now, his inner strength and bravery exemplified by leaving the sunny Gold Coast for the for handover, New Hampshire on his own, far away from family and friends. His ability to connect with those around him in every situation. I think many of us here today are proof of that. And as I got to know Julie over the years, it became clear that George had found the perfect match. someone that has the same bravery and conviction in herself to move to Australia after seemingly spending her entire life here in Massachusetts. George and Julie, whether it’s Boston, Australia, or anywhere in between, it’s been an honor to witness your love grow and knowing that you’ll never walk alone, guys. Right? I don’t know much about marriage. not my wheelhouse. But a good friend once taught me that if we pay attention to the little things, then the big things seem to fall into place. And I’m confident that if you continue to pay attention to the little things, you’re going to have a long and happy and healthy marriage. To the bride and groom, let’s toast to a lifetime of enjoying the little things. Cheers. Heat. Heat.
