We were treated to some exceptional golf yesterday at Royal Melbourne, with Aussie Elvis Smylie, Kiwi Ryan Fox and Mexican Carlos Ortiz in the lead at -6.
Rory McIlroy finished up at +1 after battling hay fever and jetlag, combining five birdies with six bogeys. He finished tied for 57th and will be looking to find some extra momentum after his underwhelming first round.
“It was a rollercoaster day,” McIlroy admitted.
“I felt like any time I made a birdie or two, I then made a bogey or two.
“It felt like one of those days; it was like, ‘OK, what side of par am I going to finish on? Is it going to be under or over?’ It ended up being over.
“But it wasn’t terrible.”
